Just seeing this thread title on the forum gives you goosebumps now doesn't it!!

I'd like to point out that Ken Jnr and I thought Adkins had failed the moment he appointed McEvely captain of this great club.
His pressers were a fucking disgrace and we constantly took the piss art on em.

I allus look forward to every word Wilder says in his interviews.
The edits posted by Football Heaven are often 12-15 mins long and full of interesting snippets (never slags any opposition off and allus honest in his appraisal of our lads and performances).
Contrast that with MAdkins pathetic, smarmy sound bites, which were 4-6 minutes of corporate bollox and spin.
I'm sure, if I could be arsed to do so, I could find several posts where I have pointed this out.

Anyway - fun to see this all dragged up again.

Interesting read is this thread.
Conclusion! Kudos to SUFC Handsworth for his very early itk.
And..... Similar amount of respect to Barney for his uncannily accurate appraisal of the skills of CW.
More to Barney than meets the eye (or screen).

Barney=Wilder?

Mmmm. Some huge egg on faces here.:p:rolleyes::D

There will be for many of us with egg on our face, me included once we have secured promotion.

If people want to wade in and gloat at other posters at least do it in May.

Reading this thread, if I'm honest, a year ago I was saying that we get rid of too many managers and that Adkins should be given another season. And at that stage I think I was right. It was the debacle at the end of the season with the non performances against Coventry and Scunthorpe that changed my mind.
Let me make another prediction, if we go up and we are in the Championship bottom three this time next year, a lot of supporters will be calling for Wilder to be sacked. Who would have said in April that Ranieri would be sacked the following February? Sadly that's football.

Exactly as I saw it. Must be right then...;)

As good as Chris Wilder's post match interviews are I personally think that Shteeve Maclarens post match interviews are comedy gold, especially if they've lost, which knowing Shteeve they usually have

I think Wilder is already making preparations to ensure he doesn't go the way of Ranieri. The man is a fucking genius.

No. Grappler did!

Soz, Phil. Couldn't resist.:D

Trev, I am more than happy to be proved wrong on this point pal! I genuinely didn't know what to expect. Micky Adams had been the "successful at lower league, so surely it must work here" option. We all know how that worked out.

The problem in recent years was never 'we keep sacking too many managers'. Wilder has proved that 'we employed too many crap managers'. Since Warnock, it hasn't been 'who is the best manager?' more like 'who is the least bad manager?'

And yes, it's fun to look back to the time since CW first arrived and the negativity this created. But his start was bad (and makes the speed at which he's turned us around all the more remarkable) and it seemed like a case of 'meet the new boss. Same as the old boss.' We always give managers the benefit of the doubt. Evern during the darkness of last season under Adkins, the crowd remained remarkably patient.

I think most of us feared the worst when CW arrived. As I've said above, we'd been ground down by poor managerial decisions. Thank God we've finally got it right.

His musings were so shite we even had to get them translated by WHF, who, amazingly, made them even worse (if that were possible).
I tend not to listen to what any manager says so not too conversant with what CW is going on about. The fact we don't need it translating on here is a massive bonus for me.

I wasn't signed up to this forum when this thread was doing the rounds. However, I can honestly say that I would have enthused about his appointment and would have confidently predicted promotion within 12 months.

Amazing to think that, 3 years ago (almost exactly), Chris Wilder had the weight of the footballing world on his shoulders.

He'd taken over at Northampton (bravely) in January 2014, when they were bottom of Division 4 and staring down the barrel, only having won 5 out of 26 games at the point when CW arrived. By 1st March (when the interview below was published), they'd won a further 3 (out of 6) & had crept off the foot of the table to 23rd. Still, vast pressure on.

Not all plain sailing for the remainder of the season - only 1 win in the next 8 (although lots of draws, suggesting resilience had been instilled) leaving them still wallowing in 23rd & facing the real prospect of dropping into non-league. But then, when it really mattered, the character was there: 4 wins in the last 6, they haul themselves out of the bottom 2, survival guaranteed.

The rest is history - good, solid mid-table finish in 2014/15, & then glory in 2015/16. As for 2016/17...

Wilder is still seen as a living God down at Northampton.
And he is gauranteed to get an amazing reception down there when we play them 8th April.

I loved this from the Gruniad article linked above:

"Drink helps, too; I have been known to find the answer in the bottom of a pint pot.

There was a stage a couple of years ago (as manager of Oxford United) when everything seemed to be going against me. I was bringing it all home. Last year, I made a decision that I would discuss only really massive things with my family and try to leave everything else at the front door. That can be hard when you come home after a heavy defeat, but it's the best way I can handle it."

Nah nah nah nah
He's a Blade and he's a Blade

Same here .......... until about 20 minutes into the Scunny game. Then he had to go.

No ifs, no buts, he had lost the team that day, the fans months before and I could see no possible reason why 2016/17 would be any better.
Adkins sacked himself that day. As for Wilder I was a bit "so what" until I saw this.

Disagree. Chris Wilder has a lot of attributes needed to be a successful manager. It's often the not so known managers that thrive in this division. He'd be very suited to what we want and what we're trying to achieve, particularly in the summer. I'd be delighted if we got him in, first step is to get rid of Adkins though, which as you mention will probably only happen if he resigns or there's some sort of mutual agreement to part ways. It'd definitely be a step in the right direction.

Fair play to you Barney. You've copped for some stick on here in the past but you got this spot on.

I think if those views from 2016 show anything it's that it is always best to only give opinions on things you are sure about and don't guess what you think you know.
