Wish this footballer insider site would just do one!

It's one thing working to a limited budget, having done nothing in the last January window.

It's quite another to be having to put up with this negative propaganda campaign thet suggests having achieved promotion our first move is going to be to sell for cur price deals two of our vest players.

I doubt it's "propaganda." To what end would Pete O'Rourke be waging a misinformation campaign against us?

As for "why would we sell our two best players..." They walk on a free next Summer and are refusing to negotiate new deals.
There is a decision to be made. Most clubs try to avoid losing their biggest assets on frees.

My own conclusion is that we should sell Berge (replaceable) but not Ndiaye (irreplaceable).

I'd agree with that if we have to sell one. However holding onto both with a bit of sensible investment may see us stay up and bank another 150m next season. The Prince gambled on keeping them when we were a championship club. I think he will again now we are a Premier League club

If we really would let him go for anything under 25 to 30m we as a club would look utter idiots
If West ham turn down 90 m from arsenal for Rice we can turn down derisory offers for Ndiaye.

It's a retaliation for us adding Ince to their manager list

We don't need to sell players at fire sale prices ...we've just got promoted not relegated

I should have said 'diatribe'!

No one is getting value for Illy or Sander selling now, everyone knows why you are selling and the players know so why agree to the move

Let them both play out contracts and who knows, if they keep us up then the money from another guaranteed season in prem will more than surpass any fees you get selling them now

The rumour i don't get is Everton who by their skin of their teeth and dodgy dealings scraped relegation last season and they are thinking he is valued at £20million.

A few questions have to be asked
1) Why would we sell to one of the clubs we are likely to be in the mix with come the end of the season
2) Why for such a low amount

According to other reports Spurs are being linked for £25million which is "about right". I am not saying he is the finished article however how on God's planet can Declan Rice be worth £100million and him only £25million . Don't get me wrong I wouldn't say no to £25million but it would have to be abroad for that to be even considered

I would also be prepared to lose Berge if we knew the money would go into signing 2 or 3 unproven players with enough potential to go straight into the 11.

Ndiaye though, I think could single handedly be the difference between third-from-bottom and lower midtable, and the money potentially gained by staying up would more than offset any fee we lose out on now. Especially if his agent insists on playing silly buggers so that he remains one of our lowest paid players.

What we as fans think players should be valued at is totally immaterial. It depends on what the selling club thinks they’re worth and what the buyers are prepared to pay. Then factor in the contract length and whether the player thinks they’re better off running their contract down or leaving early.
Personally I’d say if we could get £35 million for Illy and Sander I’d sell. Get 3 or 4 quality replacements in on long term contracts and build again just like Brighton and Brentford have done .

Very good point. Brighton, Southampton and Brentford are 3 clubs that have consistently lost their best players to the "bigger" clubs, why on earth should Sheffield United think they would be any different?

Difference is, those clubs, (OK not so much Southampton) have excellent recruitment and as one star player goes, another comes in...a great position to be in.

Illy is the best thing to happen to United for a good few years but he is destined for better things. Sander has always been a bit of an enigma but a great player on his day. If both go then so be it but if we get £35m and reinvest the money in Doyle, Traore and a couple of others we may ultimately end up stronger...

Something about Declan Rice

West Ham have a year option on him, they have no reason to rush to sell him if the price isn't right. He is also of a standard where oil clubs are interested, and hence West Ham can charge a premium.

When have United ever sold their 'best' assets and used the funds to improve the team?

If they don't want to be here then let them go. We are Sheffield United and bigger than any player. Players will come and go but we will still be here. We will go up and down through the divisions but we will still be here. One thing will always be the same....we are Sheffield United!
Maybe they do want to be here, but are protecting their futures

We haven't but the model needs to change, (unless we get a mega rich owner of course) and Brighton and Brentford are a great example of getting it mostly right. I'm obviously as sceptical as you and in reality we will sell them both and use the money to offer JLT a better contract...

Unfortunately if you want to buy something badly enough, then you don't also get to set the price as well.

They probably think we'd be of the mind to take £10m now rather than lose him for free next summer. Which of course we won't

So he won't go Everton (we saw that in Jan)
Safe to assume either Marseille come in for him to get him early, throw us a lowball offer and then when we refuse just wait til Jan to get him to sign a precontract agreement? Or do they buy him now at our asking price just in case he has a stellar season and a Spurs or Chelsea come in for him

If Marseille want to sign him it will be under our conditions, not theirs. He’s still under contract. Chelsea are under FFP pressure and have just held out for what they considered to be an appropriate fee for Mason Mount who also had 12 months left on his deal. I’m confident that we will not be bullied on this.
