Other than the obvious “thank you!” if you could speak to the squad as a group what would you say to them?

Me I think I would tell them they probably had their once in a lifetime chance to build a legendary status at a club. Like many on here I remember the TC and Woody era. That team, no matter what happened after will always be in the hearts of those who saw them and these players can be the same for the young (and not so young) fans watching them now. They could go elsewhere and get more money but they are unlikely to ever be the same status anywhere else. Seize their opportunity and once their playing days are over they will always have a home here (that and the fact they’ll probably never have to buy their own beer in the red half of the city for the rest of their lives )

Exactly. Write down every player in history who left clubs for more money and where never heard of again and Chris Wilder would not have enough room to stick the paper on the wall. At the moment we are a TEAM not 22 individuals so get your contracts signed and become legends forever. I think you've got it spot in in your first sentence - a chance to be part of a team that achieves legendary status. But after that it turns into "we won't pay you as much money as other clubs, but please don't leave us, because the fans here will love you forever if you stay", which is rather unfortunate. That wouldn't butter any parsnips with me if I was listening to that.

Legendary status? Aye! I'd like a bit of that if I was a footballer. But "stick around on less money" and eventually "get free beer"? No thanks mate! I'd rather earn gazillions more and buy my own beer.

I think this also tells us a lot about the way you are thinking about our club as well. And I don't blame you btw - so don't take this the wrong way, but, why do you think that we'll not be able to compete on money with other teams in the future? To me that's not a certainty at all. It would be fair to point out that several others have a bloody good start on us! But if we are going to be competing at European level and getting serious financial backing (and both these things appear to be realistic now) then why will we forever be consigned to players leaving us for more money elsewhere? The only thing I'd say to that is, believe it or not, it's not all about money for everyone, or even for most people. But for those who money is the main motivator then we may as well cash in on them because they are going to go sooner or later anyway.

Back to your original question though and honestly, I'd have nothing to say to them as a group that Wilder hasn't already said better. I also wouldn't want to speak to them as a group either! I can't think of anything worse than standing in front of 25 footballers and them all thinking..."who's this owd twat?" and me fumbling for words or trying to think of summat funny to say quick! Haha understand your point and hopefully if we stabilise in the top flight we can match others. That’s not yet though so there is a danger that we’ll lose players as a result.
I guess it’s a generational thing to a degree but to me if you’re already on seriously good money that’ll set you for life and are somewhere where you enjoy playing and are loved why would you leave? The reality isn’t like that I realise which is in many ways sad.
