Cooper is NOT the worst keeper in the Championship
Seeing as you love your Stats can you explain to me why Norwich (XG 0.83) beat WBA (XG 1.34) 5-0
The only Stat the matters is the final result
Statistically Cooper has been the worst keeper in the league, by a margin at that. If you look at post shot xg, which essentially measures where a shot is taken from, how hard it is hit and it's direction to work out on average what's the % chance of that going in. On a chance by chance basis it's not a hugely useful stat, but across a large sample size it's reasonably accurate. Based on that we've conceded pretty much 10 more goals than we would have with an average keeper, not an outstanding one. For context at this time last year we'd conceded about 6 fewer. So essentially a 16 goal swing last season to this.
Even by eye it's hard to argue he hasn't had a massive drop off. It's not the primary reason for this season's struggles, but is a significant issue.
Can't help but feeling his performances would be judged very differently were he a new signing this season..
