Morris Dancers at a pageant to celebrate the coronation of Edward VII in 1901
27th April 1971, a Thursday night if I am correct? The first really important game I can remember attending. Both SUFC & Cardiff City had a chance of promotion. The only seats we could get were in the Cricket Pavilion miles from the near touchline, & we won 5-1. That meant that a victory on Saturday against Watford would see us up. A glorious sunny day on the Kop & we won 3-0, in the coming weeks we bought their winger Stewart Scullion ready for Div 1. Then were the days Hodgkinson/Hope, Badger, Helmsley, Flynn/Barlow Colquhoun, Addison/Hockey, Woodward, Reece, Dearden, Currie, Salmon. Plus John Harris & Cec Coldwell!
At least I have some good memories, its just a shame the best ones are so far away. Outside of Brayford & maybe Sharp [& they are not certs] no one else would get near the team.
Not 1959. Liverpool didnt wear the red shorts until 1965. Hunt scored against us at Anfield in April 1967 (we lost 1-0), April 1968 (won 2-1) and Sept 1968 (lost 4-0)![]()

That might be the coffin that United supporters were allowed to parade around the pitch before the cup match with the Posh. The coffin had the names of the teams that we had beaten in the earlier rounds. Different altogether in those days, no fan segregation and amiable chats with the opposition supporters. The old "southern" chap who stood next to us had traveled miles just to see Joe Shaw play. What's written on the little coffin?!
