What exactly is a "Good Crew?"

I think a portion of society has moved on generally from a desperate need to prove that they're "hard". Some people complain about younger generations being "soft". I think it comes down to a realisation of how stupid violence for violence's sake is. However, there will always be an element who do go down that route. Thankfully, it seems to be getting smaller.

The numbers who do ' go down that route ' havent got any smaller at all you just don't see it much at football matches any more.

Just to open up the debate somewhat. I find it slightly amusing the way some people simply refuse to recognise a very simple fact about the nation we inhabit . Excessive drinking and fighting has been a prevalent cultural trait here for as long as recorded history has been produced .

*** Before someone breaks their neck to play the poster and not the post . I'm neither condoning these actions nor claiming they're in any way acceptable. . I'm just stating a very simple fact thats open to discussion.

There's no real difference than there ever has been to be fair, your eather the type of person that will stand your ground and return whatever your dealt, or the person that walks/runs away, there has always been the 2 types of fans, no disrespect to anyone, were all different.

I think you've missed one important type of person: the cunt(s) who start(s) it.

Totally agree. Trips down to the old den were an eye opener for me as a kid!!. The battles against Leeds at bdtbl were also scary!. The.trouble at boro was just a playground spat compared to those days!!. I M O.

Agreed - can remember some of the games with Leeds - scary to say the least. Can remember dodgy times with Man U/Newcastle/Piggies at home too.

Without being disrespectful to younger forum members, it had to be seen to be believed at times. Stories over time get watered down but they were pretty bad days.

Which is why older forum members should argue for ensuring that there is no return to the bad old days, even if it means we are called boring old farts.

there won't be a return to the old days - it won't in any way shape or form happen. In the same vein, but going off on a tangent - there will never be a war in Europe either (like the old days), which (IMHO) kills stone dead one the re-moaners reasons for staying in the EU.

I'm glad you don't worry about one landing on your head , life's stressful enough as it is .

My point remains the same however .
In a light-hearted way, I was trying to distinguish between those who risk their own safety, and those who threaten the safety of others. I only have a problem with the latter.

There was more real trouble with Boro at a Samantha's all nighter years ago than Saturday.

You may be right on hooliganism. On war in Europe, if you are wrong, neither of us will be around for me to be able to say 'I told you so.' History has a habit of repeating itself - World War 1 was 'the war to end all wars'.

The problem with that is that the Germans weren't happy finishing second.

Merrie England bar under the Swan took the biscuit. The bouncers were right evil bastards too when it kicked off, they took you round the back for a beating then chucked you out the front door all bloodied and battered as a timely warning to anyone else who fancied it.

like everything else in society today, its very exagerated under a miniscule microscope - Leeds away in the 70's was lively

Well no one has a crystal ball for the future, it's only opinion.

......and that was Woodrow Wilson - quoted at the time. They actually knew fuck all in those days.

Without going to deep, no one can actually afford it in Europe now. History shows that we were a very very rich nation in those days and would probably be out of sight (even of Germany) without the 2 world wars.........but that's history as they say.

What happened at Boro was like a kids tea party compared to the 70's.

Agree FB and hence the comment in my previous post regarding drama queen journalism & filling column inches , I wasn't at Boro, I'm away on my hols but spoke to a couple of the mates who went , from what I can gather the tabloid interpretation differs somewhat from there's . I haven't posted on here regarding it to now as I wasn't there & undoubtedly some will say because it's from mates / fellow Blades a blinkered view , or just because Mr X and Mr Y said they didn't see it doesn't mean it didn't happen etc. ? Can't argue with that it's fair comment .. but along the same lines cannot it be said for some of the press reports as I'm sure some copy & paste others in reporting an 'event' but a lot of people take this at face value & assume because it's in a tabloid it has to 100% accurate ? Usually the truth lays somewhere in between in my experience so I tend to bit s but less reactionary to some press .

Indeed - I sometimes do not understand the world I now live in. ANY news is now immediate and peoples opinion just seems to make it worse once social media gets hold of it and the actual facts gets lost. We are of course the bad boys.........LOOK NORTH painted it that way too.

Yes I agree , often perpetuated minus the 'odd' important fact or three but then can be quoted as a 'source commented' , but there a quite a few ppl who are very quick on the trigger to become judge , jury & executioner based on it

Great days wouldnt change any of it.

Sarcasm i've heard of that ...it's a banned substance now at games isn't it ? .. like CS gas or a distress flare ?

Oh FFS. Are you incapable of reading and digesting? Clearly not. I made it abundantly clear my posts were fucking observations but you decide to accuse me of all sorts of fucking shit.
And as far as Fucking Firemans Helmet or where the fuck ever shithole out east is concerned those "crews" signed up for thge gig. It says in the job description "May well get shot the fuck up and blown the fuck to bits". Don't want that? Choose another career. Posting bollox about a hybrid football pitch for a living seems quite a low risk career choice.

Nope. You asked about 'good crew', 'holding ground' and 'strong rep' like you know what you're talking about, rather than 'fucking observations'.

I'm not accusing you of anything. I am saying you make it sound like it's something worthy. I suggest there are more worthy warriors and the 'crews' 'holding ground' against 'strong rep' hooligans don't have the potatoes to go and do some real fighting, hence they won't sign up for such a 'gig' and make do with terrorising kids, women, shirters and students and legging it at the first sign of opposition.

Oh, and I doubt you'll see squaddies throwing bricks and bottles randomly at families walking home from a football match. It's not in their JD, see?

And your last comment is a bit non-sequitur. You want to open that discussion again, rather than defend the 'fucking observations'?

pommpey

Great days wouldnt change any of it.

depends which side you were - but can see where you are coming from.
If you wanted a ruck, it was readily available - no arranging by phone/social media etc - you turrned up and if met with a rival "firm" it just happened.
