Goalie position is so important. Henderson has probably been worth at least 10 points this season, without him we could be on 43 points, probably safe but where I expected us to finish not the heady heights of top 10.

And to prove the point Burnley are similar in value and skill but they’ve got Pope who is every bit as good if not better than Hendo.

Theirs no doubt deano is a special talent. But he has had a team of players in front of home that has protected him and reduced the amount of shots faced. looking at clean sheets and saves made only tells you a small amount of information and can be misleading. PSxG (post shot xG) gives a clearer picture of the best shot stoppers in the division.

Any positive number on the PSxG +/- means the keeper is a better shot stopper or an indicator of luck. PSxG/SOT relates to the difficulty of shots faced, the higher the number the harder the shots have been to save. These stats SUGGEST that this season deano is a better shot stopper by some distance and has faced shots that are marginally more difficult to save in comparison to DeGea. It also shows Guaita is just has good as deano.
Bottom 3, England’s nr 1 and the most expensive keeper ever. No wonder Chelsea are on the lookout for a new one

When we beat them 3-0 at the Lane Pope was easiest their best player. We could have had more of it wasn’t for him. He’s kept Burnley safe this year.

Could not agree more the goalkeeper is the most important position in the team as you say Hendo has been worth 10 points at least to us.

We should go and buy Pope then.

I think we can.strengthen in.that position Henri still has a lot of developing to do ,especially on that near post

I do not think we have any chance of signing Hendo on a full contract but if he is sent out on loan we would be favourites to get him i would have thought but how long can he be sent out on loan ,it would be his third year and big clubs are starting to have a sniff in view of signing him .

You’d like to think something could be done with Man U for hendo. De Gea is under contract at huge money a week for another 3 years - hendo will still be behind him (if only for the money he’s on) and he’s only 28.

To my mind a deal with a buy back clause that protects Man U would make sense. If hendo fancies it - we are more likely to stick a buy back in then say Chelsea. Obviously hendo would need to be up for it, but he obviously likes it here and its been mutually beneficial so far.

I imagine We need to make a decision which way we are going to go fairly quickly though, going to be a shorterned break and we’ll need to know what is feasibly fairy early on to make contingency plans ASAP.

Maybe heaton if he’s recovered from injury would be an option if villa go down.

Manchester Evening News interview with DeGea today and in it he says he's hoping to be Man Us number one for years to come. Besides as stated by many who is going to pick up his £320k a week wages ?

I think we can have Hendo back next season but I bet we would habe to pay his full wages.

I like a lot on here think its time for us to identify our permanent keeper for the next 5 yrs and would be happy with the Turkish lad or Ramsdale.

There’s lot of advantages to Man Utd letting us have Hendo back so we shouldn’t just allow them to set the teams and accept them.
We aren’t a significant risk to them in terms of league finish and especially Champions League.
He doesn’t play against them (which is a stupid rule btw) but plays against all their rivals.
He gets top level experience in the PL in an environment he’s most comfortable with.
They get to keep him happy and his price continues to rise with his reputation.
If he drops off there would still be plenty of interest in signing him, particularly ourselves.
We clearly know what we’re doing with regards to his development and training.
He’s not getting his head turned by other PL offers while he says with us.

This is very much a mutually beneficial deal, we just need to also have a realistic alternative and deadline in place so we aren’t leaving it late.
There are plenty of other good options out there, so we certainly shouldn’t be desperate.

For me, a very very good goalkeeper. Loves a hollywood save but has the odd mistake in him. He had saved us far more points than he has cost us.

Tweaks to his positioning (at times) and his distribution puts him in the world class bracket easily.

In the same stats page he's only made 90 saves and is sitting in 10th place.
A measure of how well he is protected here perhaps?
Yer it’s always been about our defence, he is a good, but not a great keeper! If he’s going to have count on the likes of Harry McGuire for help god help him😉

That’ll come with experience

If Man U really believe he's good enough to be their number one, they'd be better having him playing regularly in another top European league. This would give him experience of a completely different type of game.

I think we'd be second choice. He will get regular Premier league footy of course, but under the same coaching set up he's had for 3 years. He'd be challenged more in a different set up and more so in a new country.

Not what I want to happen, but probably the best outcome for his employer.

Why? What does experience at the expense of further PL experience does playing abroad give him?

I do think you’ve got to the crux of it though, Man Utd don’t believe he is good enough to be their number one.

Bert thinks that they do think he's good enough but the problem is the wages they are paying to present incumbent. They can't offload him.

I'm going to be a bit controversial here ..... I'm not sure he is good enough to be a top, top goalkeeper. He's a big character and with us he's allowed to be. He's obviously very comfortable here, has no real pressure on him from our other goalies, and fits in very nicely with the team spirit and set of lads Wilder has put together. Would he be comfortable playing under the spotlight with 75k fans analysing everything he does, sharing a dressing room with a set of mercenaries who are only out for themselves? I'm not so sure. To further his development he needs to be taken out of his comfort zone and see how he goes on then. I think Man U will recall him and put him on the bench as backup to De Gea so they can get a real close look at him. If they like what they see then De Gea will be on his way and Hendo will be the no 1 in a season or 2.

Hes under contract Bert so if OGS wants him on the bench that's where he will be

He won't have that, it's the first team or play elsewhere.
Well if he really wants to play for Man U, I'd suggest he does what the gaffer says and let them really assess him. That's the only way Man U will know if he is truly cut out to be their keeper.

He wont be Manure no1 for a while at least until he sorts out his positioning. Leaves far too much room on his right hand side.
