Would love to sign him as LWB/LCM would be quality under wilder

Won’t be getting much chance at Liverpool and wouldn’t be that expensive

A Liverpool contracted player with premier league experience won’t be that expensive?

I think you might be surprised!!

Our game is built around building up to quality chances not taking pot shots from 25 yards out. So can’t really see where he fits in.

Would be a nice change to have some threat from direct free kicks though.

This. I always suspected he was something of a luxury player when he was at DCFC last season; the kind of guy who can chip in with a wonder-goal once every few matches, but who is otherwise a bit of a passenger - especially when the going gets tough.

There's one thing about him we would get more free kicks around the penalty area, the cheating Bastard's nailed that, must have been having lesson's off greasy Jack😊

Would have agreed until I saw him play for Bournemouth at the Lane this season.

Changed my mind to horrible cheating midget who offers only a mild threat in open play.

Why? I don't see what he's delivered for all the fuss you hear, apart from the odd free kick.
Best move for him next is to stay at Bournemouth and try and come back to prove himself as ready to play at this level.

That is where we go wrong and why we have struggled to score goals we try and walk the ball in all the time.

We were 20th for shots on target hardly surprising when we dont have a go from outside the area.

we may be 20th in shots but were towards the very top if the league in the quality of chances we created.

Im not saying that we should never have a go From outside the area. And adding a player who can create something from nothing would obviously help

But you can’t rely on taking shot that might go in once out of every 20 attempts as sustainable way to win football matches. It won’t last.

im comfortable in patient build up approach and fashioning chances that are easier to convert.

Means absolutely nothing if you don't convert those chances and that is why we fell short of Europe in the end and why we need to invest in better quality centre forwards.

Is that even true? We were 15th on xG.

From an article I read in the athletic

‘’Leaving aside penalties, Sheffield United had the lowest number of shots per game in the top flight this season with just 9.3. To put this into context, only three sides have had fewer in the past five years — Everton (2017-18 with 9.2 per game), Middlesbrough (2016-17, 9.2) and Swansea City (2017-18, 8.9). Boro and Swansea went down.

The flip side to having such a low tally is the quality of those chances. Based on several factors, including distance from goal, angle of shot/header and so on, United’s xG (expected goals) of 1.14 per game ranks 55th out of the 100 teams that have competed in the top flight since the start of 2015-16. Not quite the league average but still a decent showing by a newly promoted team.

Further backing up the notion United’s relatively low number of shots is offset by the quality of those chances is an xG per shot of 0.123 — the highest in the Premier League, ahead of Burnley (0.121) and Manchester City (0.117). ‘’

It actually suggests we created the best shots in the PL on average.

obviously our goals for could have been improved if mcgoldrick (all our forwards really) had been more clinical with some decent chances going begging.

a clinical striker would be ideal. Mcgoldrick could have had another 5 or 6 goals feasibly.

also some more attacking creativity from the middle wouldn’t go amiss - to help us create more. There have been games we’ve looked a little blunt and that could help with that, just not sure Wilson is the best for what we want to do.

Great shout.
And someone willing to have a direct shot from a free kick.

Was one of the best players on the pitch when he was with derby at the lane, and done well for Bournemouth in a poor team

People saying he’s not a wing back , most attacking wing backs started out as wingers, he’s probably got one of the best delivery/crosses in the league. We need more quality

He would be perfect as a replacement for Stevens or even as fleck cover If we want to stay in the prem we need quality Back up he’s better than Osborne

Don’t know who people are expecting us to sign ? Cafu ? Wilson scored more goals (7) than any player we have in our squad

I'd take Brooks before I took Wilson if I'm honest. Think Brooks would work better as a number 10 and is better in possession than Wilson.

I would brooks would be a good didzy replacement and we’ve got a discount on him

I think if anything though, that shows we're going about it the wrong way. If we have the best quality chances on average but still have a low xG (and goals scored) then the method clearly doesn't create enough chances.

I prefer our way of doing it by the way, I'm just staying how I read those stats.

Either way, better quality forwards should improve the numbers.

Based on what ?

I’ve watched him quite a bit when we were in the championship with Derby and this season while he’s been at Bournemouth.

Imo people over rate him because he’s scored the odd worldie. But Frank Lampard’s Derby looked very ordinary most of the time and Manson Mount was far superior than Wilson even at Championship level Wilson didn’t look anything special to me. Wilson scored a few bangers and nice free kicks but he was ineffective from open play where as Mount actually got on the ball and pulled more strings. Mount is obviously way out of our reach and always will be but he looked like a footballer destined to play regular premier league football where as Wilson looked like someone who will probably end up as a top champ / lower prem yoyo player to me.

Then for Bournemouth he has gone missing when they’re under the cosh, doesn’t track back, looks bone idle most of the time but throws the odd nice touch into his game.

He’d be an absolute disaster at LWB and doesn’t work anywhere near as hard as he would have to in our midfield.

Based on what doesn’t he work hard enough?

He scored 7 goals for a team who got relegated?
