Re central defenders it says in the Star that Adkins "is thought to have consolidated his interest in two potential targets, both of whom have competed at Championship level of late, despite indicating McEveley and Collins are in pole position to start Saturday’s League One curtain-raiser at Gillingham.". Technically Harry hasn't competed in the championship yet so presumably he's not one of these.

Yes he has, last year at Wigan.

And his first few games for SUFC!

I was thinking about this the other day, I don't think it is as far-fetched as it might sound. Maguire's progress flat-lined last season, he didn't break in at PL Hull and his Championship loan at Wigan didn't really work out either. It seems pretty much well known that Hull rejected a £2m (ish) bid for Harry from Bristol City which shows they do still rate him as having the potential to be good down the line but their summer business suggests that they are not planning to use him as first choice or even as their preferred backup. If they bring in McNair, there's definitely scope for Harry to go out on loan. Some Championship sides may be interested but the Wigan spell will put some off and a season back at United may not be such a bad idea for him to kickstart himself.

Maguire and one other with Collins/J-Mac/TK as backup would work for me.

If only we could managed to pull Harry off at the same time as Harlee Dean...I'd be like the cat that got the cream!

Lol.

I would be delighted to sign Harry Maguire. He would substantially improve our team. That's the only reason to sign players, not because they are "Blades" or "know the club" or other such "one of us" Bladey drivel..

I would, therefore, Gerrimin rather than Bringimback.

With HM, heaven forbid, we might even score from a corner.

Can't see this coming off, I'd guess he'd be somewhere near top of the pile with Hull's recent outgoings.

I hope that the story has an element of truth in it. I can understand why Hull would reject the Brizzle bid and may not want to loan him to a fellow championship side, why would they want to help improve a competitor in their league? So that may make it easier for us to offer him the chance of regular first team football, which is one of the best ways to ensure that a player continues his development, it isn't improved as much by training and reserve team football.

So yes I would welcome him back as he would improve on what we currently have at the club and that surely should be the benchmark for any signing/loanee.

Wouldn't that be ironic. Collins tells Maguire to better himself at premiership Hull, clough falls out with Collins because of this and gets sent to play with the stiffs. Hull get relegated and look to offload said player out on loan, possibly to SUFC, who then takes up the centre back roll in place of Collins, who is demoted to the bench. Karma or irony. Allegedly.?

A poster on BM (Jediblade for those who frequent) seems absolutely certain we are after him.

Seems like a strange thing to make up - and in fairness he says himself he isn't an ITK and knows about this purely through chance.
Says HM would 'run to BL' given the chance.
Don't know why he'd do that, he'll have got a lovely matte black Audi R8 for sitting on the bench in the Premier League so he'll be able to drive himself

I'd take him back in a flash, even on loan.
I doubt Steve Bruce would loan him out some blades, fans were asking him before we played hull and he just laughed he knows how good of a player he is I can see him being in the squad for hull this season

Known HM since we were kids and although we haven't stayed in touch - I also haven't heard even a whisper of him coming back, he's been in and around Sheffield a lot the last couple of weeks, but what you have to remember is that his entire family live in the area so a sighting isn't news of any substance.

Also on the Bruce comment, he definitely knows how good he is or he'd be gone already, I'd tip him to break into the Hull 1st team this season.

Was last season ;)

Who else has the baldy baldness factor?
Alan Corky deffo has :D

He had some good qualities and some poor ones too.

It probably has to be said that his poor ones have been found out in the Championship.

He could have played the last two years for us and tried to remedy his poor points - but then again, a quick calculation suggest he would have been £1m worse off staying with us, so it's a no brainer I suppose.

I think the trouble is, at that age, people are telling you your wages are going to be bigger than your phone number, and your agent has convinced you that you are a shoe-in for the next Euros / World Cup, it's all hard to pass by and ignore (isn't it Mr Slew). You only have time to reflect on it when you have just turned 30 and are playing for Staveley.

You take your chances when they come. You might not get another.
Or you stay with us like Elliot Whitehouse, Joe Ironside etc did, still end up playing non league but without a big chunk of cash in the bank.

If we get all three I will buy everyone on the south stand their season ticket!
