Would you take him back?

In hindsight would we have been better selling Maguire but asking for him to return on a season long loan?

That would have possibly saved the piss around we had with Butler and also meant Collins would still be in the team.

I am thinking about Dele Alli's recent transfer to Spurs and how handy he has been for the Plastics this season.

Interesting read in The Stir this morning...as well as the usual did Harry do the right thing stuff there's this little quote at the end...

Which is not to say he can’t rebuild his career or that there won’t be plenty of knocks at Hull’s door should they choose not to re-harness him at the lower level.

You’ll be wondering the same as this column about where one of those knocks might come from.

Strikes me as not the worst idea all round. But, as with everything in life, it’s sometimes best to wait and see...

Lazy journo musings or is there something in it?

Not sure there's anything lazy about the article. He's basically stating that had he stayed, he would potentially be in the same place he is now - The Championship.

If anything, it's a dig at Harry Maguire and Jordan Slew.

I think the OP may be referring to the following lines:

For all the fence sitting Alan Biggs does, he is very well connected at (almost) all local clubs. It may well just be an observation/thought but Maguire returning either permanently (unlikely given the fee & salary (even with the assumed clause to reduce salaries by a certain %following relegation)) or on loan would make some sense, particularly for Utd. HM rejoining and paired with a quality, experienced CB (e.g. Hooiveld) would be fantastic and easily the best pairing in L1 (& one of the best in the Champ!).

It doesn't make quite as much sense for Hull who will no doubt bare the financial brunt either via a hit in fee size if HM moves on permanently or subsidising his salary to some extent if a loan. However, unless other CBs leave (Davies and Chester being the most likely) there are still plenty ahead of HM in Hull's pecking order inc Alex Bruce.

Nor does it make too much sense for HM himself - a drop back to L1 probably won't appeal; does bad blood remain with Utd (even with NC now gone) following him pushing for/forcing the move; I'd also assume he'd get other more lucrative offers from Champ clubs (even the darkside!?!?).

If he's available and willing and it fits into our structure then it's a big yes!
But that's a lot of 'ifs'

I suspect Hull will be keen to try him out in the Champ though so let's look at other targets.

Would Hull want him playing for a team fighting them for promotion?
Did I read they had installed a paycut in their players' contracts should they get relegated?

I think if money could be agreed it would be a good move for all parties, we need him, they don't really want him and need to save money and after seeing him at a large amount of games last season HM obviously still supports us despite his initial background being supporting the filthy side of our city

Conversely, he would also be playing against their promotion rivals.

This could work, as mentioned above they're not going to loan him out to a rival, he knows the club and at his age, I don't think he'd fancy another year on the bench...for a Championship club at that....now that would be stupid all round...

Of course it could be a bit too Bladey-Bladeness for some, including Harry himself...but I'm sure his sunburn has cleared up by now and I'd welcome him back with the factor 50 at the ready...

How about the return of Michael Brown? Not sure we have had a new thread about him lately.

A poster on BM (Jediblade for those who frequent) seems absolutely certain we are after him.

Seems like a strange thing to make up - and in fairness he says himself he isn't an ITK and knows about this purely through chance.
Says HM would 'run to BL' given the chance.
Don't know why he'd do that, he'll have got a lovely matte black Audi R8 for sitting on the bench in the Premier League so he'll be able to drive himself

I'd take him back in a flash, even on loan.

If there's a chance we can get him back, even on loan, of course we'd take him - he's a great defender and that's what we need.
I still have doubts that Hull would loan him back down to League one though

Him and Collins at the back would be a decent pairing. I think we had those 2 at the back under Wilson's final season where we set a club record of the most clean sheets in one season.

I completely understand the "new blood" stance, but he'll get us promoted, we'd be cutting our own nose off to turn down a season long loan

Agree with all thus far. This is his last post btw for those who always crave proof.

"Maybe, but said a few times in recent weeks HM is very much on the radar, is a deal in the offing? Maguire has made it known privately he really wants to come back here and the powers that be (KM) is on the case. I am only ITK on this through chance and the source is 100% genuine. Hope the clubs can sort out a deal, I know HM will run back to BL should this happen."

Personally i think we need to move on. Harry was a good defender when he was with us, but i think we need a pacey centre half

Dull supposedly interested in Paddy McNair on a season-long loan, it seems.

Also, I seem to remember having heard that before getting his "ankle injury", Harry Maguire played in central midfield on their pre-season tour. Seems a bit odd for a team needing to regroup & reassess after having offloaded James Chester.

Would love this one to be true, myself. Harry & Collins reunited, Harry's marauding runs... what's not to like?

McCabe was sat next to Bruce in the stands. Perfect opportunity to enquire about a deal?

Personally I'd love to see him back.

And undoubtedly a better player for a season of Premier League training and Championship football

Certainly reckon the whole experience would have been good for him, character-buildingwise. Wigan fans would love to have him back there, from what I've read.

Actually, I agree. Lets forget about signing the best centre half we could possibly sign.

We'll sign one from Leyton Orient instead. Best check he's never played for us before though right.
it's not that mate..
it's just that we always get these bloody threads about.. lord brown, tongey, neil, the kyles, blackman, TC, birchenall.. in fact anyone who was any good that played for us that we sold. it does my head in honestly

Yes I would take him back but this isn't going to happen. I cant think of a plausible reason why Hull would want to send him out on loan. They need a big squad to get back up this season and have just turned down a £2.5m offer from Bristol City for him. So clearly they rate him.

Absolute rubbish.

As much as nearly every supporter, the club's hierarchy, probably the player himself and possibly even NA would like him back, I really don't think it is a viable option at the moment. What would the benefit be to Hull if they were to loan him to a L1 club? They'd mosty likely have to part-fund his wages still and he'd be unlikely to improve playing against the likes of Crewe and Blackpool.
Therefore if (and it's a big if) Hull are willing to loan him out i would imagine it would be to another Champ club, just as they did last season.
The other way round the problem would be for Utd to buy him. However, Hull even if would again be willing to let him leave (which I'm not sure would be the case), Utd would have to outlay perhaps even more than they received for him 12 months ago - given the size of the current squad, I'm very doubtful there is sufficient budget to allow it.
I think a far more realistic option would be to buy him next season should we manage to get out of the pub league.
