If we got £10M (?) for Walker & Naughton 4 years ago we should be holding out for more than £4M.

I can only assume you haven't seen Maguire in the last 2 seasons. Walker is international class and a million miles ahead of Maguire. Naughton isn't as good but is still well ahead of Maguire. Despite looking promising when he first got in the team, Maguire is now an average league 1 defender - capable of touches of class but too slow & prone to frequent errors.

Let's not write the guy off just yet. He's having a rough time recently but we all know what he can do. He was outstanding in the Play Off final and had a £6-8M striker in his pocket.

I don't think anyone bears the lad any ill-feeling, but I personally would snap their hands off at half the price.

As I've said in the shoutbox, his loyalty, while applauded, could very well just be a mature realisation that he's found his level. He's never going to get any quicker and while I hope he proves me wrong, on this season's showing so far, has already peaked in terms of ability and will end up costing more goals than preventing.

Being young and homegrown doesn't mean they're invincible.

totally respect you're opinion linz, but I cant help but think he could be a great player in time. he's still only 20 and already has 2 + full seasons under his belt, if sold in the window to a champ club or higher he could really improve. pace isn't everything, players like steve bruce were brilliant in their day and were really slow. I think he will definitely play regularly at a higher level than league 1, hopefully with blades. my concern with his recent form is he's not putting the effort in he's capable of, his heads gone and he's thinking of a move elsewhere.

Form is temporary, class isn't. Unfortunately young Harry just isn't going to make it to the very top, in my opinion.

I don't understand why if players come through the academy they are worth far more than what they should be, and we aren't allowed to highlight their shortcomings.
We do not have a player in the squad worth £4 Million, but stating that is would be a good deal for us is some sort of heresy. We had the same with Walker a few years ago after a handful of games he was infallible, with any criticism of his positioning being akin to supporting the unclean.

Pace is about much more than running for a centre half. Even if Harry could sprint fast over 30-40 yards he'd still be lacking something...

Speed of thought. I've focussed on Harry a lot when watching games and he's often slow to react. Sure he's a technically decent defender but his reactions mean that a player is away from him before he's reacted. I think this is why he holds shirts a lot. He knows this so holds the strikers shirt to allow him his reaction time.

I think alongside someone like Killa or Jags he'd do alright as they have pace and speed of thought

Apparently according to today's papers Moyes is chasing young Harry, if that's the case I say sell him!

I would probably agree with selling him but who can we get to replace him

Surprised that people are believing this rumour, can't see it being more than papertalk.

Regarding his attributes, there are a few things that he can do better, but the only really limiting thing for him, is his lack of pace. I hope Weir is actively searching for a quick long term partner for him, as well as better full backs.

Daniel van Buyten and Sami Hyypiä are players with the same weakness that Harry should try to emulate.

To a degree if you can read the game well, hold the correct position, with a good partner, this will make up for a bit of pace.

Generally attacking players are always quicker than defenders.

Only the very best centre halves have pace and read the game well.

I reckon Harry is quicker over 50metres now than John Terry or Rio Ferdinand?

It's sport as we know it.

Let's face it there's nowt to shout about on the pitch.

Unless thats why his form is so shit. his head has been turned?

I'm not basing it on current form. What I'm suggesting is that, as we're apparently not desperate for the money (for a change), we should be looking to maximise the fee we get for a promising English player - as other clubs seem to do far better than us.

I would say £4m is more than maximising, it's a mugging.

Was it Derby we robbed at knifepoint for Lee Morris?

Not so - Lee Morris was a cracking player - it's injury that blighted his move to the Rams.
His Dad was a cracking player for us as well - assisted many a Keith Edwards and Bobby Hatton finish.

Now Curtis Woodhouse (as much as I like the feller away from football) to Blues for £1.5 Million plus Nuddy - that was a real steal.

Somebody is taking the p!ss, now in the Metro Chelsea are lining up a £5million move for him in the coming weeks they'll open negotiations, also says he's been dubbed the new John Terry by us fans... never heard that one before tbh.

Why would we insult one of our own with that slur??

a) I think the stick Harry has got in here is ridiculous. Criticising him is one thing, but it's definitely gone beyond that.
b) I'd sell him in an instant for 4 to 5 million. I do think he has plenty of potentiual, but that's definitely not what we need right now.

Weight can be lost, and maybe a bigger club will be stricter and hammer it into him more than we have done.

£4m is hard to turn down for any player on our books atm.

The question we need to ask is...

Can Harry improve his reading of the game? Yes possibly
Can he improve physically? doubt it.
is he or can he exceed £4million in value in future? Doubtful.
Can we sign a replacement (s) who will improve the team instantly? Yes.

I agree with that. What this invariably means is:
a) there's no smoke without fire, or
b) an agent is doing a lot of talking.

Somebody said lazy journalism elsewhere on the site. Well, it would be a handful of lazy journalists were that to be the case...
