I for some reason doubt this will happen, and would be genuinely gutted if it happened, I must be the only one who would be.

Not that there's any chance in hell this is real, but you'd be gutted for £4M for Maguire? A man who's getting schooled by strikers on a weekly basis at this level?

The main reason I'd be gutted is for him, he'd never even get a reserve game nevermind first team action! £4M would be tasty but I doubt we'd get anybody in to replace him. For all Maguire's faults he's still one of the best centre halves in this league.

All it says is that Old Bacon Face took a look at him last year and obviously decided against signing him. It also said that the "likely" (i.e. "under normal circumstances") price would be £4m. But we, being Blades, know better than that.

Someones having a laugh aren't they?? I think the answer to the question asked is NO

He could easily turn down the move if he was worried about not playing to be fair. With a new investor promising to put money into the first team squad, he'd be replaced.

It's a non-starter anyway.

I think of when he had Cahill on loan and how far off Maquire is.

great excuse to slag off a young home grown player eh ? ffs :(

I don't think anyone bears the lad any ill-feeling, but I personally would snap their hands off at half the price.

As I've said in the shoutbox, his loyalty, while applauded, could very well just be a mature realisation that he's found his level. He's never going to get any quicker and while I hope he proves me wrong, on this season's showing so far, has already peaked in terms of ability and will end up costing more goals than preventing.

Being young and homegrown doesn't mean they're invincible.

Depressed by the majority of comments on here. He's a young lad who's come into the team at a bloody difficult time and by and large has done well. Of course he's made errors, what the hell do people expect, he hasn't started this season particularly well but then again who has? Defenders tend to take the flack from fans when the team in front of them is not doing their jobs properly. I hope we keep him, at least he has got some history with the club.

It's sport as we know it.

Let's face it there's nowt to shout about on the pitch.

Saturday's are now split into six distinct sections

08:00 Awakening
09:00 Anticipation
12:00 Realisation
13:00 Beer
15:00 Meh

What a joke

I do like Maguire, but.....

He is nowhere near fast enough for the Championship never mind the premiership. If Ferguson had watched the Brentford game at Bramall Lane last season, he would've told his scouts to file this under the "move along" section.

Take a look at the lemons around him ,he hasn't had a decent full back to play with for 2 years ,Collins is inconsistent and he has no protection in front of as well as a rookie keeper behind. Despite this he makes the division team of the season both seasons he has played ,never hides and rarely gets injured. Young and homegrown should give him some leeway ,would we prefer an expensive experienced foreigner ? Although he had arguably his worst game for us on Saturday ,many Millers thought he was our best player. I really don't know what some Blades want ?

You took the words right out of my mouth Linz.

If we got £10M (?) for Walker & Naughton 4 years ago we should be holding out for more than £4M.

Maguire is still a baby in centre half terms. I've not done no digging but compare and contrast with Jags and Cahill - I bet they didn't have a third of his apps at his age yet they'll be turning out for England tonight. Cut the lad some slack.

I think in terms of the value of their future potential versus Maguire's, we would be waiting a very long time.

I'm not trying to be provocative either. I just don't get this whole "he's from Sheffield so he can do no wrong" business.

He does make mistakes, he did last year. And more so than those around him, he's just not quick enough to correct those mistakes - which when you look at those around him, is a very unflattering comparison.

You either need the pace to be able to deal with that or the brain to pre-empt the problems before your lack of pace is found out. Last season, he relied on his footballing brain but this season, whether for lack of confidence or another reason, even that appears to have escaped him.

Did the thing about the running coaches ever come out/get confirmed?

I think the lad needs a rest & some home truths.

Knuckle down & the world is your oyester.

I'm just saying he's not fast enough to cut it at Premiership or international level. He's only gonna slow down too.
