Greg Halford...

A name that has been touted around a good few times over recent years and I feel that this is probably the best opportunity we will have of signing the lad again.

Rotherham have released him early from his 2 year contract therefore he is a free agent and probably lives local as well?

Not too sure on where his ability lays these days but surely he is more than good enough still for this league? Is he the missing no-nonsense CB that we are looking for?

I'd stick him up front instead of Sammon :)

If we could just bring him on for throw-ins and set pieces (I can't remember the last time we had a good long throw into the box) I'd be all for it. Sadly, I think he's now a shadow of the versatile and competent footballer we all saw playing for us.

As long as we don't have Sammon on the end of them

Didn't rate him first time myself although Blackwell had him all over the shop ,good throw on him but so has Fatima Whitbread. He can get on his bike for me :)
Agreed Sitters, i thought he tended to be a bit on the lazy side when he played for us before, when did he last play for us ? some 7 years ago !!!! :(another old player we dont need let alone one that cant get in a rovrum team, keep yer bike clips on halford ! Cant understand why some posters on here have got an obsession with wanting to re-sign fuckin older over the hill players, fuckin beggars belief

A couple of workmates who watch toy town said he's poor and gave a few goals away and past it now

No no never no ,idleness personified ,didn't rate him before ,and so many managers have given up on him. read Roy Keanes book ,his worst signing ever by a mile.

Agreed. He was ordinary when we had him. The last thing we need is another player on his way down.

Without reading the whole thread, has anyone used the usual cliche "he will tear this division a new arse"?, if not I will do it.

It's a no from me, we can't carry on with players on the way down, it's got us nowhere, we need young ambitious lads who want to do something with thier carriers not last chance saloon signings, nowt against halford, but no, we need to look to the future, not the past...

Anyone else think that Rotherhams other transfer listed player might be what we need? Jordan Bowery is 6.2ft, still only 24, fast and decent in the air, although obviously not a consistent goalscorer at Championship level. I'm wondering if he could do a job for us?

Me too. Seemed to have a lot of promise a few years ago at Chesterfield and then bizarrely Villa bought him. Not really played much since then and worth a gamble if we can get him on loan.

I would image that any deals for strikers depend on if we can send Sammon back to Derby and I'd be surprised if this happened.

Keane:

We got Greg Halford from Reading. I shouldn't have signed him. He came into my office and I didn't like the way he sat down. He was crouched down, too laid-back. And he asked me a few questions. ‘Who else are you buying?’ I should have been asking him the questions. Six months earlier, he was at Colchester. He should have walked up to Sunderland. I should have sent him on his way. I thought, ‘Not for me.’ But I signed him! I was finding out slowly that certain players suit certain clubs. And Greg Halford wasn't a Sunderland player. Sunderland people are hard-working, roll your sleeves up - I appreciate that even more since I left - and Greg wasn't that type of player. He wasn't a roll your sleeves up, work your socks off player. He was about dealing with the ball, coasting through the game, and just doing enough. He’s had a decent career. I saw him at Forest recently and he played okay.

What Keane knows about man management you can write on the back of a postage stamp. Can't stand his style of management, although he was an amazing player.

Yes, I am inclined to think it says as much about Keane as Halford.

15 goals in 7 years is not a great return in my opinion. Still only a young lad though.

I tend to listen to people who know something more about a man's character...

Martin O'Neill.

'Bringing Roy Keane in is as good a decision as I've made in quite some time,' said O'Neill.

'He's been absolutely enormous for us. He's not taking too many of the accolades, but he's been fantastic for us, for myself, the backroom staff and the players.'

O'Neill wasn't the only one to highlight Keane's effect on the side, with Niall Quinn - who played with Keane for Ireland - praising the Football Association of Ireland for making the controversial appointment.

I don't need to know Keane personally to know his character, you just need to look at his antics over the years and how he belittles people. Each to his own.

I don't need to know posters personally, but I read their posts and opinions and come to the conclusion they haven't got a clue.

No need to get personal mate, we're both blades and I would guess I'm not alone in my views of Keane.

Keane - fantastic player but absolute tosspot of a bloke

He was good a few years ago past it now. I remember the Burnley final we had no threat left to field up front so they double teamed Halford they had scouted us well.

It needed scouts, not to mention police frogmen, to find the fucker that day. He disappeared along with Cotterill and Howard shortly before kick-off.

If you'd have asked me who our starting XI had been that day I'm not sure I would have said Halford even came off the bench. Amazed to read he played the whole thing.

Released by Cardiff, getting on a bit though good squad player and committed, loves the club

If wages are VERY reasonable worth taking on trail at least to take a look at

Tin foil hat on....

;)
