I know he isnt everyone's cup of tea, are you happy with this?

Im personally happy that we have managed to keep hold of him, as his interviews say, he was carrying alot of injuries last season and will provide competition down the left side, where i think he is best suited. The contract length is about right, i just hope the money is! fingers crossed he can get back to some of the form he showed in the prem when we played at home and get some efficient set pieces in put into our play again.

Yes, happy!

We are short of players as it is, without another walking out.

Bit of an enigma is our Quinny. Bad games mixed in with good games. The thing is when he has a good game, they tend to be MOM performances! :)

Blades clinch Quinn
Posted on: Thu 05 Aug 2010

Sheffield United's prospects for the new season took another turn for the better on Thursday when long servant Stephen Quinn signed a new three year contract.

The midfielder followed in the footsteps of Chris Morgan, Nick Montgomery and Richard Creswell who earlier this summer had committed themselves to the Blades' cause, and further strengthened Kevin Blackwell's hand as he puts the finishing touches to his squad.

The 24 year old midfielder played in the Premiership at Bramall Lane and is looking forward to extending his stay:

"I am absolutely delighted to settle the deal and couldn't be happier here because I am so settled. All my family are here and love it to pieces. I have been here for seven years and the club is in my heart so there was no question I would sign.

"Last season I had injury worries that I played through, then towards the end I had to get my toe sorted. We weren't quite able to make the play-offs, there was speculation about me leaving in the media and I knew there was interest from other clubs.

When Morgs, Monty and Cressy committed, genuinely I wanted to follow because I knew the core of the squad was in place and we have built on it in the summer. The club has brought in some good players, like Simonsen, Ertl, Bogdanovic and Britton so my signing was really just a matter of time."

"Having players committed on long contracts is good for the individual but more importantly for the club because everyone will be busting a gut to succeed for Sheffield United."

Quinn's signing marked a successful summer of negotiating for chief executive Trevor Birch who said:

"This is great news for our fans because it is the final piece of the jigsaw in place after embarking on the mission of re-signing on longer contracts the core of experienced players who know the club.

"It means that they - and us - can get on with the job without worrying what might happen at the end of the season, and that was an issue for us last time round.

"Stephen is a United player through and through, popular with the lads, and will help the new ones continue the settling-in process which all have started so well.

"We are looking to build a squad that has experience and youth, is competitive and unified within and can challenge for promotion. With a couple of additions to the defence which we are working hard on, and with the help of a good crowd behind us, we feel that it is really taking shape."

Personally speaking, I'm happy enough with this.

I think Quinn will be back to his best this season.

We have a settled squad and with a couple more addictions i cannot see why we wouldnt be in or around the top 6.

I've said this on other threads but I think he is a quality player. To me the main problem is that we have never really played him in his best position - not that he is the only player this happens to - he isn't quick enough to be a winger and doesn't get the chance to shine in centre mid (although it's a difficult task fo anyone when you have Monty running round like a headless chicken never offering a pass and just generally getting the way).

He would be best playing just behind the striker(s) as an attacking midfielder as he is comfortable on the ball, can pick a pass and has a decent shot. It looks like we plan to play Britton in their kind of position and i think Quinn is very good back up for this role (a role we have never reall utilised before).

IMHO I thought it was vital that he stayed, on one hand we are moaning about the fact that we have a threadbare squad, and Quinn signing is one less player we have to find. I think Quinn does have ability stored up somewhere, he just needs to pull his finger out a bit and use it this season, he has the opportunity to be a key player in the middle for us this year, let's hope he takes the initiative!

Good news. Absolutely.

It's a win, win situation. He either bucks his ideas up and fightds for his first team place and recreates some of his form for a few years ago or we flog him. This way it ensures we either keep his services or get a fee for him. Worst thing that could have happened would have been for him to have not played this year (or played shit) and left on a free at the end of the season. I'm failry confident that having 3 midfielders playing in front of him will put a rocket up his arse.

Additionally we have 19 players on the books (of which 3 are long term injury) and hence we need all the players we can get hold of. Snapping him up on a new deal was a no brainer.

He frustrates the life out of me! He tries to move the ball on too quickly for me, how many times does the ball come to him and he wants to help it on first time? Lets hope he follows the new script and holds onto the ball long enough to pick a pass. As Olle said the signing was a no brainer he either steps up or can be sold for a fee now, i really hope it's the former.

One of the reasons Barcelona are so good is their players' ability to play under pressure. Quinn has to improve this, although a lack of options for the outlet ball to feet doesn't help.

Love your optimism. Blades = Barca. Bwahahahahahaha.

I wouldn't mind emulating WBA for passing at the moment but Barca? - Oooh mother, fetch me the sewing kit. Me sides 'ave split.

They make it out that we resigned a good player when he total shit!!! He can't tackle, he can't put in a good cross, he can't pass forward just remind me what he can do???
