In my early to mid 1980’s panini album and English First Division influenced youth there was only one Sheffield team I’d really heard of, and it wasn’t United.
Whatsmore Liverpool were really my English team as they won everything at the time.
Then I went on a family holiday to Bridlington in, I think, 1987and had a day trip to Flamingo Land.
I was standing in the queue for one of the attractions and clocked a guy wearing a red and white striped strip with which I was unfamiliar.
I had a closer look at the badge and it was Sheffield United and from then on I started follow the results.

A long winded and unlikely story but it’s all true! :)

Saturday was my 8th ever Blades game, so certainly a low key supporter!
5 games at Bramall Lane, Hull at Wembley, the 4-1 debacle at Walsall in the League One winning season and Leicester in the FA Cup last season.
That’s a good effort but maybe you should stop going to away games with that record!
My only other contact with anyone who supports Partick was a lad I worked with at British Steel who was raised in Glasgow and who’s dad wouldn’t let him go to either Rangers or Celtic. He then moved to Sheffield and became a Blade.
Hope you can make it back soon.

Is Connor Sammon still pretending to be a footballer there?
He returned to Hearts at the end of last season and is now out on loan again at Motherwell.

He was by no means the worst player I’ve seen playing for us to be honest.

In da modern yoof parlance:

"wow, just wow!"
I can assure you Ihave seen some amount of shite over the years!

On the flip side of that we had Lyle Taylor playing for us a couple of times few years back (once on loan from the Blades) and he was mostly very good.

And I hope you get afforded the same warm welcome down here, as I get at Easter Road.........

I always have had. ;)

Excellent. It’s a pretty long winded story, but I’d never really had a Scottish team but when I read Trainspotting as a teenager I began to have an affinity with Hibs, then a few years later raul went up to Edinburgh on a stag weekend and watched Hibs, came back a fan, and then I started going up with him, and now there is a group of us who go up a couple of times a year. Along the way we’ve met HibbyBlade who does the same but in the opposite direction. I’m back at Easter Road in November for Hibs v Dundee and can’t wait as I know it will be a brilliant day

I really enjoy my footballing trips to Scotland, been to about half a dozen Scottish grounds now, some with the Blades pre season and some with Hibs, but away from the Old Firm I’ve found you will find the punters at the likes of Starks Park/Easter Road/Cappielow are your genuine football people and probably Firhill as well, if it is a ground I ever get round to visiting

Firhill is a good ground to visit Broonie. The Thistle fans are a good bunch too.

It was a shame they got relegated as living in Glasgow it was an easy and fun away day for me. Hopefully their hunt for a new manager sees them well.
