I had the purple and orange one with Wards as sponsor when I played in goal on a Saturday down in Nottingham. Think I got it in a sale in JJB for about a fiver.

I play in goal regularly and I wear a United keepers top. Had a Le Coq Sportif one one from 07-08 which wore very well. Swapped it for a Macron one this year, and very disappointed with the new one - much worse quality.

The one long wore the other night was nice. Might consider purchasing a short sleeved version if they do one.

Ive not owned a GK top since Alan Kelly was here. I was about 10 and wanted to be a keeper. I got the Yellow one with Purple pinstripes. Wanted the Purple with Pink stripes but I don't think that one was sold. That was an awesome GK top IMO

How can anything clash with those colours?

Continuing on the "when I was a a lad" theme....

When I was a lad, all First Division goalies* just used to wear a scruffy green shirt with no logo or badge. Thus, you could buy something down the market for 49p and look just like Ray Clemance, Pat Jennings, Tom McAlister etc

* With the exception of Peter Shilton who wore an all white kit**. But he was just a show off.

** Except. presumably, when Leicester played Leeds, Derby or Spurs.

Blame Admiral Dazzler. They were the first to produce a unique design for the keeper to wear. A yellow and black thing for the England keeper was the first I think about 1975-6!

Yes, I remember, though I think Don Revie is also to blame. He introduced "marketing" to the Leeds kit (along with Admiral) in 1973 (tracksuits with players names on the back, sock tags etc). When he became England manager in 1974, Admiral got the England gig and, as you say, started messing around with the kit that had been more or less teh same for about 100 years. Not only did we have the goalie shirts, but lurid stripes down the shirts and shorts.

As Revie is now dead, its safe to safe that some of the Admiral money probably ended up in his pocket....

I remember keepers wearing green in the league and yellow in internationals always with the standard shorts and socks. I'm sure it's now in the rules that the two keepers must wear different coloured shirts so that if one of them goes up for a corner etc. there can be no confusion. I'm also pretty sure they have to wear different shorts and socks to their team mates.

Not bright enough for my liking.

As any cyclist will tell you, never look at the object you're trying to avoid - it's the sure fire way of middling it. Ergo, all keepers should wear flourescent yellow, preferably with christmas tree lights across the chest.
