George Long - clinically insane

Ah! The old 'all footballers are thick' routine?

Why not simply make up a quote not uttered by the said player and then call him a 'muppet' for presumebly (not) saying it?

If only he was as erudite as some of the thoughtful contributions that are continually trotted out on this forum. :)

Why not simply choose to misread my post, then? :)

I actually evaluated Long's comment as being almost as bad as one I've heard many times, though admittedly not from him. My reaction to Long's comment was the fairy dust bit. The muppet referred to my visceral reaction to anyone trotting out the 'I want to go somewhere I can win trophies' gubbins. Raheem Stirling, I'm looking at you.

But okay, you have a point. I guess we all make dumbass comments from time to time. Doesn't make us all thick as bricks. My knee-jerking aside though, you would think that Long could have put some thought into his summary of the season and actually said something that made sense, wouldn't you?

He's clearly been conditioned by Adkins.

He's influencing this low expectation mindset to try and excuse his own management.

It's just a crying shame he's so transparent.

Maybe he should have gone through the squad and highlighted who's been shit and should be binned, then had a pop at the large number of fans who wrote him off and gave him a hard time.
I reckon that would be a really smart thing to do and it would make him really popular too.
Honesty doesn't prove you've got a brain, telling the brutal truth is easy, showing tact, being professional and not being divisive on the other hand is the smart thing to do.

Why doesn't Long just write 100 hundred times in his blue exercise book , I must be more vocal on the field of play and command my area and defenders.

Again if us fans think Long is the answer for a promotion chasing side then we too seem to be settling for a level of mediocrety . It doesn't say much when we think he is the most improved player this season . God help the rest of them and the bloke who is paid to get the best out of them.

He's basically repeating what we all thought at the beginning of the season ie that the squad with a few additions was good enough. Perhaps this is as close as he (and others) can get to saying it's not us it's him?

Thing is ... Adkins has to turn a team out next season

Looks like there aint owt to spend ..... so who would you let go ?, knowing the only replacements are from the Academy

The most sensible thing said through this thread (and I include George's own comments, he needs to learn how to not answer a question while answering the question, like his manager often does). Your post though? Spot on. :(

Sorry I get it now. So Raheem Stirling is the muppet who needs to work harder and play better?

Here is the actual interview on which the Star based the article. http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p03t590q

When Long was asked to sum up the season by Giddings who actually did the interview he said,

"A disappointment, as in we had a target of promotion and obviously that's not been achieved. From inside the camp all the players, all the staff, its pretty hard to take. Considering the quality we have got its an underachievement by our standards and where we think we should be at the end of the season"

That seems to make sense to me without ripping into his colleagues and management?

Players picked out by him for praise, Bashford, Brayford, Sharp, Done, Baptiste.

Giddings question. 'Presumebly from the playing point of view you wont necessarily want or need to see wholesale changes to the squad'. Note this is Giddings saying this initially.

Maybe he should have answered, 'are you talking bollocks Giddings we all need to be sacked' before he then returned to train with the lads he has just ripped into?

It sounded a reasonable interview given the failure of the season which was indeed acknowledged by the player.

Of course we are all disappointed by the season, but I do wonder about some of the outrage on here.

Don't be too strong with the word outrage .it's not outrage it's fans justified frustration. Be different if the players paid and turned up to watch us , but unfortunately it's other way round.

Interviews to date from management a players given all season quite frankly leaves a lot to be desired . Fans aren't daft.

Of course I understand LBoE. Sometimes I think players and management really cant win;) (see what I did there.....).

The fact is we have failed this season and so fans understandably have a go at whatever players or management say or do.

The reality is that it was a perfectly reasonable interview but in the context of the season it was shit and he is stupid. I get all that, I really do.

Just off to the match in 5 so........laters......as the kids all say. :)

I think we have evidenced beyond any reasonable doubt, that the supporter's "acceptable" standards are considerably higher than the standards accepted by the Board, the Management and certainly the players at SUFC !!

UTB & FTP
There are plenty on here who think it's just a matter of time and that we are a 'ship on the turn' with Capt. Adkins at the helm. That for me highlights the fact that these same supporters, (who usually shout down anyone on here trying to be objective) have far lower standards than myself. We are a holy mile from where we need to be - a holy mile, and as for Capt. Adkins, less said the better.
