Outgoing? George Baldock

Maybe this is the work of a crafty agent hinting to the Blades they get a move on with his new contract ASAP.

Last summer Sam Johnstone and Boaz Myhill had just signed contracts with WBA and the press started running stories they were signing Simon Moore.
Puzzling, until Moore signed a 3 year contract a few days later,

Wow the negativity about naughton is unreal, and those who don't think holgate is good enough really need to give their heads a wobble. naughton was steady last year for Swansea played 35 times with a pass completion of 85%. However he is now 30 and can a 30 year old be asked to do running in the way our wingbacks do?

Mason Holgate played 19 times for west Bromwich last season and has a better rating across those games than Naughton according to opta. mason is only 22 yes 22 so he is capable of doing what we need up and down the wing. However his passing is well down on Naughtons (72% completion)

I'd have holgate there is a future value there . but he won't be cheap. There won't be much difference in wages.

Celtic have bid £3m according to Football Insider / Pete O'Rourke.

As I'm sure will be reported on this thread at least another 4 or 5 times.

Not every potential sale is the work of crafty agents lying about interest.

Add this to every PL player over 30 is an idle tosser with no professional pride.

Just because it happens doesn't mean it happens 100% of the time.

Was only 10 months ago the majority was wanting Enda out. (I was in a very small minority of supporters)

It’s a very fair comment to make. I’ve made it clear that I think we need to get in someone better for this position, but if Baldock was to up his game akin to Stevens last season then that’s a different story entirely. What I would just say to counter that though is that Stevens did show in that first year all the attributes he’s had this season just gone, but added in consistency into his game. I don’t think we’ve seen enough good stuff from Baldock over the season – two assists from a whole host of opportunities and good advanced positions was, given the amount of the ball he saw in those positions, not good. He has become far more consistent defensively though to his credit compared to his early games this season (errors at home to Swansea and at Ipswich).

For the record, my preference wasn’t to sell Baldock, but move Freeman on and try to upgrade the position.

There was an argument for playing Freeman over Baldock against poorer opposition where we knew we'd be camped in their half on the basis that Freeman is better at getting on the end of things in the box going forward but in the PL it would have to be Baldock. Freeman would get torn apart defensively and isn't good enough on the ball to get us on the front foot.

I do agree, though if we’re to be fair to both and pin our Baldock hopes on the notion he can improve his game going forward, it’s also within the realms of possibility that Freeman improves his defensive game. Some of his better games defensively were against some of the better attacking sides last season for example (Norwich and Villa at home, West Brom away)

Just read that article, and in my view its pretty unprofessional to talk so much about another clubs player like that; you'd think from that, that the deal was almost done, which it doesn't appear to be anywhere near. If Baldock really wants to go to Celtic then I'd let him, or anyone else go for that matter, that doesn't want to embark on the premier league in favour of moving to a one team league, two at best, and the overall standard is lower end Championship - at best.

It would be unprofessional of Nielson if he was manager of Celtic but he’s the manager of Dundee.

Who the feck do think they are dealing with a little old L1 club. Anyone told em we were promoted the PL so it’s £15m opening bids. That’s the going rate for a PL player.

.

Cut to the chase, what is he worth?
I'll open the bidding at £4m.?

Too right £4 million is a fortune and the most that we can expect for a Premier League player
We can then go and pretend to sign some Championship players for £15 - £20 million and wonder where we went wrong.

To be honest though I fully expected Celtic to be in for Enda Stevens as the rumours about Kieron Tierney leaving for Arsenal start to gather pace.

George Baldock has never played in the Premier League, until he does he cannot be classed as a Premier League player
