Outgoing? George Baldock

Can’t understand why anyone would be happy to see Baldock move on. We need to be strengthening the squad, not making it weaker.

100% - say we sell him for a decent fee. Say 4m. We then need to replace him and probably get another right back if we don’t think Freeman is quite up to it.

That £4 million would be eaten up immediately.

Don’t want to see Baldock leave, rated him since that home game vs MK Dons, improved each year with us and would back him to improve again in the Prem. Fast, good defender, knows the system and team and seems a nice guy, even at 4m who could we get to replace him.

I'd be amazed if Baldock wanted to leave United now for Celtic. It just doesn't add up. He seemed to love his time at United last season and really improved from his first season, not he was bad then.

George Baldock in the Champions League.
Now, that's a thought and a half.

There'll be nowt in it. He'll want his crack at the big time, any aspiring English player would.

pointless sale.. would cost that and more to replace
the lad has the engine of a tour de france contender

Celtic mate asked me if he’s any good. I said I’d be disappointed if he left and pretty much said it’s his final ball that lets him down. I’d bank on Wilder and Knill to improve that over another season.

He did say that the Celtic board would probably be too tight to sanction a deal for the piece of coal and satsuma we’d ask for, so we might have to settle for a piece of coal in solitude.

I suppose we’re not making it weaker if we improve on him are we?
I do like Baldock that said

If we’re going to let one go then it should be Freeman.

The £4m quoted for Baldock is peanuts for where we are now. An upgrade on him would probably cost £10m+.

Doesn’t look like it’s going to happen anyway.

Signing a decent RWB would cost a fee similar to what we could get for Baldock.

Selling Baldock could be the best way to facilitate this spend, without affecting the budget. It would be smart management if we can upgrade.

Freeman unfortunately would barely bring in £1m.

For example, we sell Baldock for £3.5m and bring in one of....

James Justin - £5m - "Listen James, we know you can go to Leicester and earn a fortune but we guarantee you first team football"
Andy Yiadom - £4m - "Listen Andy, if you can move to Barnsley you can move to Sheffield"
Mason Holgate - Loan - "Listen Mason, we're signing you to play RWB and will spend part of the Baldock fee on a CB"

Are any of them better than baldock ?

Wilder has no intention of leaving, or selling his core players, they all deserve to be part of the journey.

From a ITK.

If this has legs then I’m going to suggest that Wilder sees that position as an area he can look to strengthen.

No doubt about it that the Scottish prem is nowhere near in terms of level as the premier league, it’s generally league one if I’m honest!

Celtic don’t need to buy big, they just need to do enough to win their league, win a cup and get to the champions league if they can. Their owner then keeps the club nicely ticking over. So Baldock is probably a reasonably cheap target and able to do a job. Perhaps suggests they might be losing one or two better players who also fancy a crack at the premier league themselves.

I won’t lose sleep over this if it comes off, Wilder will have a plan.

I think George has done more than enough to show he is worthy of a place in a Premier League team. Sure his final delivery needs more work but he made an improvement on that over the year before so who is to say he wouldn't be up to it? He may be a better full back than a wing back but we might be forced to play a back four more often so he might be more useful to us than an out & out wing back, & if not then continuing to work on his final ball will bring rewards. He has the physicality, pace & engine to cope with the step up though, so I would like him to stay.

Any news on any other players TB?

Henderson apart(announced when he signs a new deal at Old Trafford), no, linked with every player going with the moment.
Players like Jota and Allen immediately dismissed bacause of wages.

Think it`s a case of see who drops, moving down the list as players get snapped up.
Deals will be done later, agents squeezing every last drop out of clubs for their clients.

Last week in July, first in Aug will be when more business gets done than the rest of the window combined.
Nature of the beast, because of the standard of player we are chasing.

All sounds quite normal TB and the same for most clubs.

Think it may be worth taking my boots to Portugal - there's a fair chance of getting a game with only a squad of 16! :-)

You don't think Wilder has done brilliant business, with only one or two exceptions, both in terms of buying and selling ever since he walked through the door?

That's not my point. I'm not using Wilder as the reason behind my comment. I'm just saying that this club has undersold players for years and years. £2m for Kyle Walker ffs. And that's one example (and don't come at me saying he was inexperienced).

Kyle Walker was a good deal at the time for a player with a handful of games. I remember a lot were more annoyed with the amount we got for Naughton.

If we sell Baldock for £4m though it would be a piss take. £4m is the price for a decent Championship defender of a similar age to Baldock. We should be able to command double that in the position we are in.

Absolutely. We are a premier league club. We are now that club that held all the power over our players and agents all those years in league 1. Remember, "if a big club comes knocking". Yeah, well not any more. We have the power to demand what kind of fee we receive. We have to think about replacement and what that cost will be. Transfer and wages. Even a free agent will want double what Baldock will be on.

Do we have a replacement lined up? Surely we wouldn't sell before having someone ready?

But anyway. £4m would be a minimum. Seen £2.7m thrown about today.
