What a run of games they have, we will soon find out how good they are. You would imagine they would drop points in this run of fixtures.

Villa ( H)
Bristol City (A)
Wolves (H)
Derby (A)
BLADES (H)
Preston (A)

Very tough run that and you would expect us to be above them after that run. Big run for them and more importantly for us.

Personally, I wouldn’t expect United to be above Fulham after that run at all. One game at a time & push for as many points as we can get. If it takes to the last game of the season to get above them on goal difference, then we’ll have done very well. They’re a bloody good side!

Football is a funny old game though. They could end up going out & winning the lot & push for a top 2 spot.

Enigmatic did a good summary....

Realistically, I think we're pushing for 5th or 6th. Possibly 4th. Below shows our next five games in comparison to, who I'd consider to be, our closest rivals for these spots.

I've emboldened the games against fellow promotion/play-off contenders - the fixtures which guarantee at least one such team will drop points.

Blades:

QPR (H)
Hull (A)
Reading (A)
Burton (H)
Fulham (A)

Bristol City:

Leeds (A)
Fulham (H)
Cardiff (A)

Wednesday (H)
Preston (A)

Fulham:

Villa (H)
Bristol City (A)
Wolves (H)
Derby (A)
Blades (H)

Preston:

Wolves (H)
Villa (A)

Ipswich (H)
Bolton (A)
Bristol City (H)

Cardiff:

Bolton (H)
Middlesbrough (H)
Ipswich (A)
Bristol City (H)
Brentford (A)

Middlesbrough:

Cardiff (A)
Hull (H)
Sunderland (A)
Leeds (H)
Birmingham (A)

The key will be when we play them. If they beat us, then they may still be above us as they will have a 6 points more than us if you include the 3 points they have now

Our fixtures aren't the easiest as no games are easy and we aren't in the best of form anyway

As Switch says, one game at a time.

Preston will drop down without Hugill.

But you look at the quality players Fulham brought in, in Mitrovic and Christie. They will only get stronger.

I know I wouldn’t want to play Fulham over 2 legs in the playoffs.

I don’t think Preston will drop down without Hugill tbh. Their recent results 3-0 vs Forest, 2-1 vs Hull and 1-1 at Brentford with 10 men for a lot of the second half. Apparently they were hard done by there with referring decisions too. I don’t think they will finish top 6 but don’t expect them to drop further than 7th or 8th at all. Good side.

As for Fulham they are a very good side but you would have to expect them to drop points in that period with that run. They will probably still get top 6 but we have to move above them in these six fixtures to put ourselves in with a good chance.

At this stage of the season i’d pick, Wulfs, Villa and Fulham as promoted teams although Fulham looked nailed on last season and blew it. After that I think we’re just about the best, not seen Cardiff yet. Most overrated and achieving has to be Bristol City, how they left here with three points i’ll never know, ( cheers Fleck)

Probably agree with you. Maybe Derby instead of Fulham though. Also agree with your notion on Bristol City, incredibly overrated. One of us, Preston or Boro will take them out of the playoffs.

Ultimately its down to us, we need to win 8 of our remaining games and a few draws. There will be lots of twists and turns as ever but we will need to get somewhere around 80 point mark, to sneak in to 6th spot.Personally I think we will finish in the top 10 but miss out on the play offs, but will be interesting and we are definitely in the mix at the moment

I'd love us to be above Fulham after the next few games. I think it'd be better if we can just take it one game at a time and let's see where it takes us. Yeh sure other teams will drop points but we can't control that!!. Let's just make sure we have a strong finish until the end of the season. It's gonna be interesting but I'll be there every step of the way. Utb

I’m quite amazed that up until the weekend Derby were 2nd.

We’ve played them twice now. One win, one draw and Clarke should have made it 2 wins. Their manager on both occasion has admitted we were the better side. He did the same at the weekend vs Norwich.

How did they get 59 points being outplayed by teams in 8th and 13th at home?

It’s going to be an interedting next 5 matches. We could really put the cat amongst the pigeons if we can get the results to match the performances.

It may be a pipe dream but I don’t see why we should write off 2nd with the upcoming fixtures.

Derby and Bristol weren’t anything spectacular against us. Bristol since man united seem to have lost form.

Derby just have 11 excellent players but normally drop off. Cardiff have bought well again in January spending big money.

I wouldn’t say spending £6M on Gary Madine is buying well personally.

10 goals 5 assists mainly from his stint at Bolton is pretty good going for a target man in this league who’s 27.

Considering Assombalonga went for £12m or £15m Who has 12 goals and 0 assists shows it isn’t too bad a deal.

2 years ago he doesn’t go for 6million but in today’s market that’s the standard rate for a player in form with some attributes such as pace/size.

Why do people keep going on about "one game at a time " this is a thread about the upcoming six games or so, what is wrong about it? Are we in some way going to effect the outcome of the rest of the season by daring to speculate about it?? Let CW take it one game at a time and let's us not worry about upsetting the football gods

Not sure I agree with peoples' opinion of Bristol City and Derby. Agreed both didn't pull up any trees against us but I think Bristol in particular are a very good footballing side similar to ourselves. I don't think people can write them off - the likes of Preston, Cardiff and Millwall will be saying exactly the same about us based on one abject away performance.

Nicely said, top 6 spot is up for grabs looking at that lot. I also expect Derby to fizzle out as usual in addition to one or two of the teams mentioned in Blade56 's post above.

I'm backing Fulham for second spot, they're much better than Villa if they get over that run of games and still be around 4 points behind Villa I think they'll snatch it in the run.

Great post.

Our recent form doesn't indicate we'll be above Fulham any time soon.
Good win on Saturday but still well short of the form from the first third of the season.
Given where we're at and our own need to improve, we're far better off focussing on improving ourselves, trying to rebuild confidence and if that improves results then have a look.

You drew on Saturday and your team is involved in a relegation battle, best leave Fulham to us

The fact that at this stage of the season we're realistically talking about play-offs with the team we have and the people we have in place this is a dream for this season.

A few months ago we were talking autos. Damn that Burton player !

You smelling Pork ?
Definitely a whiff of it. Why so dismissive about our chances of catching Fulham over the next 6 days considering we are only three points behind them with a much ‘easier’ set of games.
