Your argument is completely irrelevant to RWB. They need to be able to get up and down the pitch as a bare minimum, look at the grass Baldock & Stevens cover per game. I'm not talking about speedboats with no drivers, of course, you require skill but I'd hardly have prime David Silva or Lionel Messi playing RWB as he would struggle with the athletic side hence they play the position they do.Sorry, thought we where on a football forum. Is there a forum or a sport for Getting up and down the pitch. How refreshing last night to see a player: ball at feet putting players on their arses with skill. Surely things like that must take priority over "Ready:Set'Go. Understand you need pace but don't put that at top of a list.
We will see how your list of players perform in the up and coming Euros when hopefully they show their speed against Europe's elite players.
I played football for 34 years at all levels accept pro. Players with blistering pace you could work out a system to stop them, players with skill you just stand back and admire then shake their hands after.
Again let's hope this young lads has both in abundance and shows us his skills. And maybe he will be joining your list of wing backs.
In terms of "We will see how your list of players perform in the up and coming Euros when hopefully they show their speed against Europe's elite players" well most of them already have and that's why they're playing in the European finals next week.
The best right/ left back's of my time are Cafu / Roberto Carlos both of them were incredibly powerful athletes as well as having skill etc but I doubt they'd be rocking up for Sheffield United in their prime.
We're talking about Championship football here one of the most demanding leagues in Europe if you think that just skill at RWB is going to get you by you're completely wrong regardless of what level you have played at (which is also completely irrelevant to this discussion).
