Great subject!

Adidas Predator
Following a pair of Mizuno (red), Black Lotto's and a brand i can't remember the name of, think they were Joma or similar, I flirted with a few versions of the Adidas predator over the years as they evolved. However, i found that as a shit player, the 30% extra power and curve quoted in the marketing, just ended up with having to run further to retrieve the balls i'd ballooned.

I was wearing a pair of White (yes, i admit it) Predator pulse on the 3G at Dronfield when i ruptured my ACL, slightly different to these as i bought them in Qatar and they were rubber tipped on the moulded studs. View attachment 24886

This is a decent article...

First 3 pairs during late 80s were some Hi-Tec abominations, Patrick Debut and Patrick 20/20.

Best boots by far as an adult were Adidas Profi Cup (soft ground) and Adidas Profi Liga (hard ground) - very difficult to source but better quality (i.e. better grade of kangaroo leather) versions of World Cup & Copa Mundial.

My first boots were Adidas Beckenbauer Super's, black boots, 3 white stripes and red studs.
At the same time, circa 1979,
my brother bought a pair of Patrick Kevin Keegan's, blacks boots with 2 red stripes near the ankle.

We thought we were going up market as both boots has screw in studs.

Patrick Stabil Trainers although not boots i wore these most of the season they were comfy as hell and i loved them !

Always wanted a pair of Patrick Juventus boots couldn't afford them, Red, White and Black... think Kevin Keegan used to wear them if i am not mistaken

UTB

Valsport Green Star in Studs and World Cup in moulded, same every season apart from 1 year when I had some Umbro Speciali studs and Kaiser moulded.

Mine were Adidas Beckenbauer but I'm sure they had yellow stripes and despite the recent protests of Tyler Durden these have been remodelled as Adidas Bashambauer;)
heh.. me too boo.. yellow stripes (lime green??) was radical at the time! my grandfather found out how much they cost and went fucking mental :D
never liked Puma's they were a bit too soft.. like playing in carpet slippers.. probably ok for the copacobana but not Graves park. they used to have them (top end Puma's) in Suggs window.. some of them were 100 quid.. then!
Swiss probably had a pair :)

I seem to think that they were not extortionately priced because having lost my Dad my Mum would've found it difficult to part with a lot of money?
I also seem to think we went to Mick Jones shop in Maltby but he did not have them in so in the end I think it was Kettleborough sports in Dinno?

yes. they weren't extortionately priced (that was Puma) but i have to save up for a while including birthday money.. i stupidly left the price on the box.. got mine from Suggs.. it would have been around August 1974 ;)
i also had a pair of Stylo George Best that had molded studs. they were pretty good for general wear as they didn't 'clack' like screw ins
did i mention i'm crap at football :).. actually not true, it's just that most of my mates were shit hot .. i realised this much later :D

Gola shootstraights ,then Bukta ,then Patrick and I used to make them last at least 3 seasons. Always black and mucky told my mum it was superstition to not wash them.

Just like mine, those - didn't half chafe me shins

Studs were originally cork , then rubber . The pins on the studs used to come through the sole of the boot .

Boots these days are like carpet slippers which provide no protection and must add to certain type of injuries .

Generic Tesco tearaways! Ya know the sort, Ya'd rub a tin a dubbin on em but it wouldn't do owt due to em being plastic!

I blame them for me not turning pro, felt like I'd been hobbled every time I played. Finally bought a pair of Puma Kings, I was still shite in them too

No I never had Puma, had a pair of the puma trainers at primary school, the puma version of the adidas samba's, the sole came off after a week of playing football at school at lunch, mum took them back to suggs and got a pair of samba's instead, don't think i've worn puma since.

As for Beckenbauer, I've got a smart pair of adidas Beckenbauer's trainers that i picked up about 5 years back in europe.

Always wanted a pair of Patrick boots which were very much in fashion at the time. I did get a pair of leather Puma boots which I loved. Always put "dubbin" on them after each use to keep them in good nick.

Still wear Puma for 5 a side when we're playing on the grass.
