ever had a kicking while watching the blades

Once got an old penny, filed down, with a nice razor sharp edge stuck in my head at Ewood park. Early 70s, missed most of the match being seen too by the Red Cross ambulance men.
People who throw coins and darts etc are the biggest fucking cowards around. Fucking wankers.

Was that Chester at Sealand Road, August Bank holiday weekend 1978?

I went to that game on the train on the Saturday (the day of the game) and returned home the following Wednesday.

I can however confirm that there are some lovely views from the windows of Chester Royal Infirmary ;)
Don't remember when it was but I think we lost 3-2 ,Butlin and Bourne played and there was a fire underneath the stand. To be fair I don't think it was Chester fans ,we stayed in Chester for a session and it was a bunch of Hells angels ,proper set to though. Driving home with no windscreen was a bummer ,I remember playing Sunday morning and it was parked in Graves Park car park looking very poorly ,we found half a housebrick in the back ,luckily it missed the 2 in the front and hit my mate in the back ,he had to have his hand stitched up in Chester hospital.

1-1 in August 1979. Lost 3-2 in Nov 1980

portsmouth the scariest place ive ever been division 3 the season we went down it wasnt a kicking but got chased back to the coach i was only 15 SHIT MYSELF also got a bashing round the ear at bolton the day edwards scored and got kicked in the head just come out of the train station and blades fans were just hitting any one

Bumping in to the 6.57 crew at Waterloo on there way up to London was a experience .

Manchester a City outside the Fiesta after a home game , and issues at Maine Road .

Every home game at one time was a problem when opposing teams supporters were allowed on the Kop.

Worst at the lane , I would say Man City and Birmingham City ( battle on London Road )

Worst violence was a night match

Burnley v Hull City ( about 300 blades went )

Millwall v Hartlepool . Night match - gate around 5000 .

West Ham away with Mr Freedom clothes v Blades .

UTB

Needless to say I wasn't allowed back the following year. The next time I went there was a midweek game whilst I was staying away on a course. Needless to say she didn't know I'd gone
Looks like it must have been 19/04/89. Won 1-0 Agana.

Same season we beat them 6-1 at The Lane with Dean and Agana both getting hat tricks. I missed that one as I was house hunting thanks to one of many job moves.

Saved you a job Silent Blade ;)

I got battered at Pompey that day,Jan.81....
A gobshite from Chesterfield decide to taunt their fans from the "safety" of our pen,the steward on our pen gate walked away, leaving their fans to pile in.
Muggins here decided to have a go back, but got knocked to the floor and kicked all over.
that day i remember someone getting hit with a brick thrown over the wall plus when john ryan missed the penalty i was slighty releaved

The season after we last went down i nearly got caught in the wrong place at the wrong time after Hartlepool away. We was parked up near the social club round the back of the away end, and some bloke came up gobbing off at me, i turned round and told him to fuck off, and then about 20 kids appeared from nowhere and gave me a chase through the back whacks of Hartlepool. I'm convinced to this day it was a set up to give an away fan a hiding and i nearly walked right in to it.
hartlepool again i was inthat pub that got smashed up in 4th division season

Never been in any real trouble, seen plenty as a youth.

In recent years, last time Millwall were here, walking past Armando's scooter shop after the game and about 15 Millwall fans come running up, shouting at old couples and young kids, so I just took my jacket off, Blades shirt on, and started walking towards them, they legged it.

At Baaaaarnsley, the match where Morgs injured Hume, we had arrived late, four of us (including the mrs), and so we parked in the home supporters car park. Came out after the game and a couple, of fat. middle aged Barnsley fans were taking a swing at some young lads, so I told them to grow up and pack it in, which they did. We got back to the car and we were right in the middle of a packed car park, traffic not moving, one of our lads had a small Blades badge on his lapel (none of us were wearing colours other than that), and typically, the one and only car park attendant was nearby and saw it, and said in a loud voice "you are home supporters aren't you?" we said "Aye" in a Baaaaarnsley type accent, but he had said it loud enough to make everyone walking back to their cars stop and look at us. We got in the car, expecting trouble, but luckily nothing happened to the car.

Port Vale (what a shit hole) away last season, all the Vale fans taunting all game and lined up outside to have a go after , with only a thin line of small policewomen and small thin, young policemen separating them from us. Once again I had parked in the home supporters car park, plenty of spaces (most Port Vale can't drive, or read or write come to that), so I walked up a policeman and said I need to get through pal, he said something like, it would be too risky, so I just pushed through with the mrs next to me and walked towards the Port Vale fans. Because I wasn't bouncing up and down on the spot, shouting "come on then!", it was almost like they were confused, and the crowd just parted to let us through.

Trouble is a rarity compared to the 1970's, when t was literally a weekly occurrence.

No, but came pretty close a few times.

Just got out in time after we'd beat Wolves 3-1 in 02/03 and they attacked everyone coming out of the away end. I was only 12 and I couldn't understand why my Dad was so keen to get out and back to the car after such a good win. Then we got outside and I realised.

I was 6 when the Blades fan whacked the lino at Pompey, and again we made a pretty quick escape after the game so just avoided and trouble. I did insist on going to the amusements at Southsea before we came home much to my Dad's bemusement. Needless to stay we didn't stay long.

There was also Cardiff away (circa 04) when we beat them in the FA Cup, and the police decided to keep us in for 20 minutes, then opened the gates and all the chuffing Cardiff fans were still outside waiting for us..

Walking back along Green Street after we beat West Ham on pens in the League Cup the other year was a mixture of tension and full on elation. It was probably the most intimidated i've ever felt but I was buzzing inside and had to resist bursting into song outside the packed tube station.

Herman got a right battering ,we were in a boozer that got attacked ,it was scary stuff. One of the lads hid in the cellar and smacked a copper when he opened the door thinking he was a monkey hanger. He got £400 fine which was a lot in those days and a kicking when he came out of court. He was the quickest carpet fitter in England for a few months after that.

Loads, but forest away always sticks in the memory, cops joined in as I made my escape as a final fuck you...

Dished a few out too, so no moaning..

Brilliant that 4th Division season on the rampage week in week out.
A few surprised us as well Hartlepool , Wigan, Bradford

Halifax , ( or Leeds ) take ya pick , Blackpool away was a great one as well .
But as the saying goes , if ya can't take it don't give it .

I've never had a fight during my time watching United but the closest I've come has always been at the Sty! I have to say it was largely self inflicted due to my naivety and stupidity in the same measure. Anyway, we'd just drawn 1 - 1 thanks to Williamson's free kick and the Pigs were going down! They weren't happy, understandably. I came out the away end and was on my own and as I hadn't driven, I was just going to walk home to Shiregreen from the Sty. Sadly for me I'd not given it much thought re wearing my florescent yellow Blades shirt with BOOKER 4 on the back! To stay I stood out amongst a sea of blue an white was an understatement! At the start of my walk on Leppings Lane it wasn't too bad. Most were pig fans but there were still a few United fans heading toward in the direction of the petrol station on Leppings Lane. But then on that roundabout every Blade headed away from Halifax Road and I'm now literally alone surrounded by Pig fans.

It wasn't long (just past Burger King) that I started to get abuse - obviously looking back! The odd pig insults came out and then this guy says "You've got some cheek wearing that shit, pushing your chest out"! Then next minute this guys kicks my legs away from behind and another says "come on then". I just said "mate I'm not looking for trouble, just walking home". Then he continued to get aggressive and I said "look you're an idiot or words to that effect, and then walked on the other side of the road. Surprised I didn't get into a fight then to be honest, but maybe he neshed it. A close shave and in other circumstances I wouldn't have been so lucky! Bit of an anti climax in the end, but I'm pleased it was because there was no way I was gonna win that fight, outnumbered like that! Never wore my shirt again on Derby day!

I also went on the train, got to the ground at about 3-30pm ( bloody British Rail) and one of the ground staff kindly let me into their stand for free. First time for everything.

Correction must have been 1979, 1-1 draw

A Man. U fan at Anfield:

Back then, Burnley and Blackpool were seriously scary places. Their 'kops' were split 50-50 with a corrugated iron fence separating 'us' and 'them' and the stuff - pool balls, darts, lumps of angle iron etc. - that flew between the fans was truly frightening.

People moan about how 'sterile' football stadiums have become but these old grounds - Maine Road, Roker Park, Burnden Park etc. were not for the faint hearted.

And a lot had crews on the away ends including us

A saw a photo of a Blade fan with blood trickling over his face after a brick was thrown at his head in the Blades v Man U match in October 1967. I recall he is a friend of Bob Socks

Appreciate there are a fair few anecdotes on here of those unwittingly caught up in trouble, but there are a fair few admitting deliberately to seeking it out, others saying what a laugh it was etc. Is it just me who would class as mentally ill any grown man unable to support a football team without wishing to fight other grown men because they support a different football team?
