We had JRS last season who beat men 1v1 regularly and created lots of chances. Most people called him lazy and said he didn't defend well enough

I threw up his stats from Fbref at some point last season that showed that JRS was in the top 10% of wingers in the league defensively.

He had a bit of a languid manner about him, but it was massively overstated that he "didn't track back" etc.

Heckingbottom would've got way more out of JRS, I don't think Wilder used him well at all.

... and many argue he didn't use Andre Brooks enough and he certainly didn't get the most out of BBD or Cannon.

The more I reflect on last season, the more I arrive to the conclusion that we've made the right decision in taking a different course of direction.
Whether Selles is the right guy, I don't know. But I'm very willing to be open-minded to it.

The reason people say he didn't track back, is because, er......, he didn't track back. You could see him on the halfway line, looking bewildered and waiting for someone to win the ball back and give it him.

This rewriting of last season, where all the good things were down to individual players, but all the shit happenings were Wilder's fault, is getting a bit tedious.

United had a better attacking, and defensive record with him on the pitch. He created chances 1v1 which only Hamer could do. But fans appear to want a run up and downer who'll take no risks in possession. United were mediocre in attack last year, partly because they regularly took off their best ball carrying player after 60 minutes to shut up shop.
Looking back, we seemed unnecessarily functional last season even to the point of shunting our best player out of the way to a less defensively vulnerable area.

I genuinely feel we’ll hand out a few hammerings this season. I must confess I never felt that way last season.

Last season, we lost as many games by three goals as we won: one. By contrast, Leeds and Burnley didn't lose a game by more than a single goal and between them won 15 games by three or more goals (Leeds 9, Burnley 6)

We were the epitome of efficient; arguably at the expense of entertaining and, when it came to it, competitive against our peers.

He's looked very promising in pre-season so far. Always eager to make a run down the wing, bags of pace, and yesterday showed a very smart eye for goal as well.

If I had the choice, I'd want another winger in with greater experience playing at Championship level. But if that doesn't happen, I'd wouldn't be upset with Ukaki competing with Brooks for the RW position.

The people writing him (and Jeff) off after York were simply eager to use them as sticks to beat the 'AI' data driven approach to scouting. There were posters in the chatbox basically saying 'the ai lads were are a waste of time and they'll never do anything at the club.'

Absolutely incredible stuff when players like Chris Basham and Paul Coutts were recruited with traditional scouting and were absolute dogshit initially for the club before becoming club legends. They were written off too.

Ukaki, Jeff et al could end up doing nothing, but people never learn when it comes to writing players off when they're bedding into a new system etc. It's most likely that some will do well, some will flop. Y'know, like any incoming transfers.

There is a lesson here. Shitbox is not for sane, balanced people. Best avoided.

Reporting you for common sense, pal.

L1 Loan would be perfect for him imo. Definitely has a future and has shown a lot of promise. I think the foreign lads should be praised for coming in and not looking out of place by any means. I’d like to see the minority of fans who were quick to criticise move to a different continent and perform at their best.

Too much potential to go on loan he can make his mark here starting this season

I'd wait until January for that

Let him try and make an impact at this level first

Agreed that he defiantly has the technical ability to make an impact in the champ. I just think playing in L1 for 6-12 months would get him up to speed with the rough and tumble of the FL and benefit his development in the long run, as with saw with Arblaster.
