I’ve seen him 3 times now & my main issue with what I’ve seen is with the ball at his feet and the defender infront of him he never tries to take his man on; the times he’s got in behind is when he runs off his man & uses his pace.
Yeah it was strange, I don't remember him actually taking someone on even when it was pretty clear he was a lot quicker than the Burton midfield/defense. I imagine he's still building confidence here but it would be good to see someone other than Hamer trying to dribble past the opposition!

A bit further back, John Francis was lightning fast. Sometimes too fast to be able to keep control of the ball. Can't remember much more about him, other than him featuring in the ludicrous 5-4 win over Brighton.
Remember him winning a penalty at Oakwell - great dive!! Bryson scored (presumably no Duffield). We used his Burnley money to get Paul Wood who did ok too (impressed in that same 5-4 game).

We had JRS last season who beat men 1v1 regularly and created lots of chances. Most people called him lazy and said he didn't defend well enough

His defensive side improved a lot over the season, but he wasn't "solid" enough for wilder. We consistently looked far more dangerous and exciting with him on the pitch so it's a shame he wasn't one of Wilder's boys

We only conceded 8 goals while he was on the pitch. Looked at it earlier

JRS on the pitch, conceded 0.42 per 90
Off the pitch 1.04 per 90.

At the time when he coukd cause most damage, with opposition teams having to attack to get back in the game, United took him off

I was gonna say the same, Littlejohn was rapid but lacked control. He was really good at lobbing the keeper I recall but only from a certain distance! 😂

Warnock signed him too when was at Plymouth I think.
Littlejohn had to be rapid really, so that he could go and fetch the ball after his first touch.

He was lazy and didn't defend well enough.

He might just steal a living for a mid/lower Championship club, but he has too many faults to make a go of it in the Prem.

United had a better attacking, and defensive record with him on the pitch. He created chances 1v1 which only Hamer could do. But fans appear to want a run up and downer who'll take no risks in possession. United were mediocre in attack last year, partly because they regularly took off their best ball carrying player after 60 minutes to shut up shop.

We shut up shop after 30 mins, then spent 30 minutes giving the ball to the opposition and running around like headless chickens trying to get it back, leaving our best players knackered. Not sure what happened in the last 30 as I found Royal Match was far more interesting.

I accept he was a good ball carrier, but his end ball was invariably the wrong one. A rare cross, when he should have shot, or more often, a shot when he had men crying out for a cross.

If he beat a man, he had to beat another, until he inevitably lost the ball.

His markiing and tackling was abysmal and he seemed to have no comprehension of the need to track back. In 11 year old football, it's great to have a fast kid on the woing to give the ball to. In the Championship, his lack of contribution out of possession, was a liability.

My point will be made, when no top team signs him up for this season.

United played a formation with 6 players deeper than Rak-Sakyi and, even though he was far and away United's 2nd best chance creator and the team performed vastly better defensively when he was on the pitch than off it, you are calling him a "liability".

It's bizarre the stick he gets. United conceded only 8 goals in 1,725 minutes with him on the pitch. It's just baseless dislike because he didn't smile much or put slide tackles in.

It's not 'baseless', my earlier post explained his limitations.

Most of his starts were pre-Sottar's injury when we we suoperb at the back. I admire your chutzpah for trying to link the solidity of our defending to JRS, but I can only say it as I see it.

The lad is simply not Championship quality. Please feel free to flag this up, in the very unlikely event that Brum, Ipswich, Soton, Boro etc, are all fighting for his signature.

He's not Championship quality? He's dropping down to L1 now then?

Enjoyed chutzpah though 👍

In relation to JRS, he probably won't be a PL player but at championship level could be quite effective. I thought JRS and Gilchrist had been jettisoned too early. On the defensive side of things he was a lot better than what some posters claim. In addition to the team stats he has an unusual and effective way of tackling. He doesn't do big challenges but he does dispossess the opposition player by a little toe poke which allows him or one of our player get on the ball. Part of peoples perception about JRS is caused by a languid and lazy looking style. Could he have worked harder?? Yes.
I would have been bringing him on as a sub at Wembley and telling him to have a go at them on the big stage.

Quietly confident this lad is going to have a pretty decent season with us. Not going over the top given who we've been up against but you can only beat what's infront of you.

He looks quick, makes good runs, tricky and seems to be growing in confidence to beat a man but what's actually impressed me is his vision and passing. Lord knows we know what a rapid player with no brain looks like but Ukaki looks like a very good addition to the squad.

Just watched the highlights of the chesterfield game. If you re run his goal two or three times you'll notice his positioning and run to get on the end of Barry's cross is very good. Then for Cannons goal, the ball he played through for COH from the right wing was sublime. Looks like we've got an exciting and intelligent player on our hands. Just opinion anyway 🙂

He may well be a player who doesn't shine often and is inconsistent while he adapts to the demands of the Championship, especially if he'll be a bit part player, but could take off next season (if we're still in the Championship).

I'm going to repeat something I've mentioned previous times multiple times about Andre Brooks, he takes far too long on the ball and slows things down wayyy too much and ends up in a blind alley being crowded out

Where as with Ukaki from the small sample size it's been very much quicker speed of thought.. pass and go, pass and go.

Also I think Ukaki has the better pace and presses slightly better than Brooks.

For me Ukaki gets the nod just ahead of Brooks right now.

Just my opinion of course.
