Edgar

I think he's looked very good over the last few games. Wins a lot on the air. Obviously comfortable on the ball. Understands the systems and can play them. Part of our run of clean(ish) sheets.

Who are we going to get who's better?

Richard Wood's out of contract too. Yes it would be dirty as fuck, but in this division we could do worse than reuniting him with Beevers.
Wood would be a great signing IMO.. mind you i've said that about a couple of players that haven't passed muster recently

Ricky, there's dirty, then there's shoulder shrugging, "What me guv?" so-called professionalism. It's often been commented on these pages that we need a couple of beasts as central defenders, hopefully with a bit of mobility and pace between them. My take is very few will mind if they see this area of our game shored up and a no-go area for the opposition. Getting out of this division is the priority, and if it takes the footballing version of a brick shit-house (or two) to restore confidence to our less than secure defence, I doubt anyone will complain. From there, confidence might grow throughout the team, knowing we're capable of shutting down this division's rated forwards allowing us to concentrate on penetrating the opposing defence. I'd be happy with a "Take no prisoners" philosophy, can't see how anyone would have a problem with that.

We lack guile, the nearest we currently we have on our books who could produce this quality are either Coutts or Baxter, but neither convincingly produce on a regular basis. So a cunning midfielder with an eye for threading a pass, plus a forward tried and tested at this level, who'll know how to keep the opposition defenders on their toes potentially causing goal-scoring chances to be created......just my two-penneth worth as regards additions during the summer.
I thought he meant dirty as in having a couple of ex-swine at the heart of our defence.

Indeed he did.

If you wanted to get absolutely downright filthy you could throw Reda Johnson in there too - also out of contract. But I think that's a step too far.

I'd be happy to take Beevers and end it at that. He's still only 26 too which surprised me. He's just one of many we could get who'd be better than Edgar.

Oooh no BB, surely we can do better than sinking to something that depraved. Find me a Division 1 equivalent of Tony Adams and Martin Keown and we'll have the authority we've been missing........did anyone else notice the Barnsley centre backs? Made our CH's look shy of a challenge.

Just done a quick check and Roberts was signed from Halifax having spent his career in non league and is now 25, Mawson is an ex Brentford academy player who spent quite a lot of time out on loan in non league before a loan at Wycombe.

I have to concede that it's some pretty good scouting by Barnsley.

Quite a lot judging by the fact we are 9th in League One. Edgar has been here most of the season and has not convinced me. He lacks aerial presence/does not dominate and is not quick. Very average for me and defensively we have been shocking most of the season. He has been part of this. Dont let a few end of season games when we are effectively done fool you.

Still cannot get my hand round fact people actually want us to bring back likes of Edgar, Flynn, McEveley. These players have been regulars all year. We are 9th and a miillion miles off automatic promotion. Assuming Sharp, Adams, Long, Basham, Brayford, Done remain and 4 or 5 of them start that would mean 9 of the side would be almost unchanged. These 2 incomers will have to be Messi or Iniesta to make up the 20 points if that is the case!

If bring back such players then we are in mind resigned to another season of mid table - 8th at best.

If the management have a 'who are we going to get who's better' attitude regarding Edgar then we're fucked.

Spot on we can't back track now or we will be in exactly the same position this time next season.

Send that to the board, please.

Well out of that lot I'd say Done, Flynn, and maybe even the Beard - unless he can regain his form - wouldn't/shouldn't necessarily be first team regulars - so that's more new players many of them in midfield.

Defensively we've been poor (which has been true too often) does not mean the defence has been poor - as Bergen Blade pointed out on any number of occasions.

Also Collins leaving makes a big difference to the way we can play. Edgar's been fine. Last few games he's actually been good.

Midfield is the key area.
