Regrettably, it's impossible to answer the question with ANY sort of confidence until we see IF Nigel is supported in the transfer market by the Board.
I know I'm being cynical but I've heard it soooo many times from United's Board that the manager will be supported with funds to build for promotion. I will believe it when the players are signed either permanently or on loan !! It is not necessary to spend a fortune on players in this Division, but its tricky to be consistent and get out.
However, if we can hold onto players like Harry & Murphy, if we can bring in 2+ decent strikers and a replacement for Doyle, if we can bring in a decent commanding centre half with some pace, if we can tempt Coady & Brayford back on a season loan, if we can find another creative influential midfield player ( either CM or wide); then we may have the potential to consider ourselves automatic promotion material.
If we cannot do the above, then its likely to be a similar position to this year, in my opinion.
