I've yet to experience a promotion, when we are doing the chasing, The two under Bassett, Warnock's, Wilder's two, Hecky, they were all similar, we were in the top two for the majority of the season, and could we finish it off? Clearly, great campaigns, but with them all there was a tinge of relief too.

Now, I don't necessarily think we will get promoted, but it would be exciting for all of us to have a genuine push, and after Saturday that could be possible.

With the above in mind, when was the last time we were promoted after not being in the top six in November?

I don't recall, other than last season, where we've been the side in control, have we?

We've usually been in the top 2 or just behind and have been the chasers, in the slip stream. Even the 100pt season in League one, we weren't in control, we were waiting for the slip ups. In the end though, we've seen the sides above us make those slips and we've had the momentum to finish the job off...

We should have enough to beat Norwich.
Then we move on to a tricky WBA who have only lost 1 at home.

Their home form this season is W4, D4, L1

Wins:
  • Blackburn
  • Preston
  • Oxford
  • Swansea
Draws:
  • Portsmouth
  • Leicester
  • Pigs
  • Birmingham
Loss:
  • Derby

Theyve not really played anybody apart from Preston. You would expect to beat Oxford and Swansea and theyve failed to beat Portsmouth and the Pigs. They dont seem to score many either

Ive always found we have been better chasing than tbe pressure of being chased. (Until we get into prem & it all goes to shit).

In Wilder's promotion to the Prem (2018-19), we were chasing Leeds for most of the season, and they only slipped up around Easter.

It was swinging back and forth really from January onwards. The bottom line here is our position after each game week. GW27 was 12th January 2019.

We went 2nd on Good Friday (GW43) and didn't let them back in.
The other time we maintained 4 GW's in the top 2 was in October 2018 (GW's 12-15)

We've come "close" a couple of times. Clough's first season (following Weir's sacking) we missed out on getting in the playoffs on the final day (or the week before? Can't quite remember) the season of that great cup run. That was a fun season.

Then the play-off semi loss to Forest we were down at the bottom before Hecky came in and fired us up the league.

We've been close before but never quite got over the line. Not in my lifetime anyway.

Listening to pre match interview with Wilder this morning and I thought this position suits us much better.

Last season is a good example of where being chased really bit us, partly I guess because it wasn't really expected. Wilder was talking about instilling consistency, not being arrogant, not being complacent. Its harder to manage that when you are in the number 1 spot. When you have something to chase down you can keep the players focussed and more humble. I think it suits his personality as well.

Its way too early to be talking about this, 4 good games don't make a swallow (thats the saying, right... 🤣) but if we can keep performing at this level, come February time, I think other teams will be more uncomfortable with us breathing down their necks.

Win tonight and WBA lose at Southampton and we go above WBA on goal difference!

I completely understand the argument for wanting to be in the prem, amongst the biggest teams and somewhat spot light but in just pure entertainment this season so far has had more fun, ups, downs and god knows what else already rather than an entire season of being dry bummed with the odd exception of win once every 12 weeks.

I'm enjoying seeing the squad trying to claw their way up. Wilder being the underdog team is his sweet spot.

If we make the playoffs after the start we've had, I think the mentality and psychology is completely different.
So, n that way, the chase will suit us now.
