I would actually prefer we go for Chris Wood from Forest, who for me is the type we need with OM injured frequently. However our respective positions in the league table could make that one difficult.

Interesting stat, injury prone Carroll, (410) has made more career appearances than the slightly less injury prone Ings, (384). Neither have been prolific however....(Carroll 96 career goals and Ings 125.

Chris Wood is about on a par with 163 career goals in 516 appearances.

Carroll is three years older than Ings.

Ings had two shocking injuries back to back whilst at Liverpool. He hasn't had the same sort of persistent injury problems as Carroll before or since.

Ings has scored goals everywhere he's been with exception of Liverpool and West Ham. As recently as 3-4 years ago he was prolific in the PL for Southampton. Last season he scored 1 in 3 for Villa before moving to West Ham. Carroll hasn't had a decent season at PL level since 2016.

Carroll is rotting in the French second tier. Ings (and Wood, actually) would massively improve our striking options.

It hasn't worked for him at West Ham but prior to that he was a proven PL goalscorer. I don't think we'd be at the front of the queue if he became available.
