Don't worry, when our physio comes on to attend to injuries he'll have oxygen and a spare set of false choppers and a walking stick in his bag.

Unfortunately many fans think players can repeat their best from a while back but I go on what happened in the last 6 months, not great, and expect the same this season and a struggle.

I was going to buy an ST this season but having seen almost no attention to up front decided not to as goals excite me not overly defensive tippy tappy boring triangle stuff.

I also expect a few melt downs on here in weeks to come as we struggle to score goals and opponents with more quality up front take their chances while we have most of the possession and were "unlucky" to lose.

20 goals.

19 in the league actually over 12 games, he played 39 games, therefore 27 of those were none-soring appearances which included a barren spell of 2 in 17 during which time many a poster on here was screaming for him to be dropped....some short memories about.

Granted, he finished the season with 4 in 6 but the stats never tell the full story!

I heard these arguments last season, i.e. 10 goals were scored in 3 games, he didn't score for x games etc etc and I thought it was BS then. Strikers who score 1 in every 2 (or more) are a rare breed indeed and none of the strikers we are allegedly lined up with have done so recently in this league. Yet somehow Waghorn or Galagher would come in and instantly do better than Clarke or Sharp? Maybe but doubtful.
Clarke had a fantastic season last time out, in fact he was immense, unplayable at times. If we are talking about short memories just remember that his manager thought so, and perhaps more importantly his fellow professionals in the league did by awarding him with a place in their team of the year. Praise doesn't get any higher than that, yet somehow many of our own supporters don't see it.

"Legs have gone" and all that bollocks.

If the bollocks have gone, i'd've said we were fucked, but on reflection, that's the last thing they'd be.

Or is it possible to fuck without bollocks?

There's another thought provoking question for you?

you need to go and have a lie down ;)

Last time I had a lie down, I woke after four days in a cave, they said i'd only been asleep, though I could be wrong.

Last time we were promoted to the Premier League our top scorer was 31 year old Neil Shipperley with just 11 goals.

Just sayin'.

I've got a theory about you, but its so weird I'll sound daft if I'm wrong.

Were you on here before in a different guise? One we thought was gone for good?

Because for 65% of last season he was anonymous....25% he did reasonably well and 5% he was brilliant...consistency isn't our Leons strongpoint..

A bit like maths isn't yours?

What was he doing with the other 5% of his time?

Can't believe it took that long....winner!

I may not know much about strikers, midfielders or defenders but show me numbers and management and I'm your man.

That's why I understand the concept of budgets, player amortisation, wages and other personnel cost provision and most importantly cash flow.

It's also why I understand that cash flow trumps everything else in running the business and the importance of having an equitable wage structure to retain unity and team spirit in the dressing room.

I'll let others fantasise over players, their wages and potential transfer fees safe in the knowledge that Wilder understands the fundamentals of the business and the way the market works better than anyone else on here, and it is definitely in his interests to get the best he can for the team.

So I'm happy to acknowledge my areas of weakness and I thank Torrix1889 for bringing my areas of strength into public view.

;)

It's chance creation, not conversion, that is the problem. People say we create loads but in a lot of games last season we struggled, particularly at home. We have changed nothing about our attacking approach so far, only McGoldrick offers something different up front. So we could be really stale and struggle unless good quality is brought in - including at LWB, which Wilder is making a mistake by ignoring. We need different types of players and also some new ideas.

Who do you think you think you are kidding Mr La Liga, if you think were on the run. We are the Blades who will stop your little games, We are the Blades who will make you think again, ‘Cos who do you think you are kidding Mr La Liga If you think old Yooniteds done.

New song perhaps?

Well said .

The oft repeated fallacy that we created loads of chances in most games , only for those two old farts up front to go and miss them , is a load of shit . What really cost us on the goals front was the lack of goals from midfielders , wing backs and defenders and , like you , I can't see that changing with the current set up , although the reintroduction of Freeman will help ( if it happens )

Transfer Deadline Day is now only 13 days away and we all know we are desperately short up front.

Assuming Waghorn is off to Derby and the likes of our new targets like Powell don't come off, what position do we all think we're in? I seriously don't want us to panic buy and piss away most of the Brooks money. At the same time the following options (Clarke - Sharp - McGoldrick (plus Lavery)) seem pretty weak assuming Clarke isn't going to be the prolific Clarke in the first half of last season.

What's Wilder's plan if he can't recruit anyone of sufficient quality and he refuses to buy in from abroad? Is it going to be Clarke and McGoldrick upfront or will he try and resurrect Clarke and Sharp? We are desperately short of options and I'm sure Tufty is doing everything he can but it does make me anxious for the start of the season.

What are people's thoughts, no one else worried?
Can’t understand a post like this at this stage. As you say yourself, there’s 13 days let. Not 13 hours.

Wilder says he expects things to really hot up over the last few days regarding transfers over the whole league. I feel confident he’ll have a plan B and a plan C and D. I still think we’ve more than a good chance of getting Waghorn but if not I’ll not be too concerned because I know Wilder won’t be pinning everything on his signing alone.

Just pull the quilt over your head and stay there till the silence ends

reading roys view froms, the message that comes across is that other teams are terrified of Clarke and Sharp. yet our lot think they're crap.. weird.

amen.. coupled with naive game management is what cost us

this waghorn is getting better by the minute. he'll be as good as Pele by the time he goes anywhere :D

We are running the risk of panic buying to get the forwards in.

Waghorn is not the type of caliber I was hoping for. Nor is McGoldrick.

This is a big problem make no mistake.

Forget a bloody LWB. It’s 2 strikers the club needs desperately

I wouldn’t say I’m worried because I think the sum of the parts is good enough to hold our own at this level. I think Fleck is looking particularly good in this pre season and McGoldrick is a shrewd addition.

My biggest concern is that we don’t have much pace in the team, someone who can wreak a bit of havoc in attack. I think we’ll have a similar, all energy, hard working team ethic, to last season, but without a bit more pace and flair I can see us starting very similar to how we finished last season. A somewhat slow, methodical, build up and not much working of the other team’s goalkeeper. And plenty of spurned chances.

We’re probably two or three quality players short of a team that can set the pace tbh.

A lot can change in the course of a few days though. But I don’t see us improving over last season’s great effort as things stand.

defence was what let us down last season we were ahead most games .. one game leon scored a hat trick.. and lost!
Many games Leon missed absolute sitters as well though. I think if he’d put half of those missed chances away we’d have made the play offs. Not all about him of course, and overall he had a great season. But if the team as a whole had converted more chances the goals against would have been irrelevant.

Oh so close! If you’d left out the word “old” in the last verse it would have had perfect syntax.

He also played with two younger pacey strikers for the majority of that season in Kabba and Webber.

No one is saying sell all our strikers and start again, we just need some younger strikers (hopefully one with pace) to add to what we have.

Worst case scenario is that we fail to land anyone and get a couple of loans in. We'd still be okish, depending on injuries, until January.

We desperately need younger players in the attacking positions though. We're created a huge future issue for ourselves if we don't address it, at least partially, now.

A lot of people seem to have zero faith in Clarke, Sharp and McGoldrick though purely based on their age.

They haven't all suddenly turned shit in the few months since last season.

I’m not saying they are shit, but let’s be honest, we’re hardly the envy of the Championship with that forward line.

It’s definitely an area we can improve the starting XI, but it’s obviously not going to be easy because strikers go for crazy money.
