Many games Leon missed absolute sitters as well though. I think if he’d put half of those missed chances away we’d have made the play offs. Not all about him of course, and overall he had a great season. But if the team as a whole had converted more chances the goals against would have been irrelevant.

All strikers miss chances like Leon did last season. However, I believe that someone posted stats on here showing Leon had the best conversion rate of goals to chances of any striker in the division. As for Billy his record of goals to minutes played was the best in the division and in my opinion if he had been given more game time in the second half of the season in preference to Donaldson. we'd have picked up more points.

I also agree with Ricky when he says they were let down in the chance creation department by poor delivery of balls into the box for them. They were also let down by the failure of the rest if the team score goals, particularly by the midfield (whose decision making on whether to pass or shoot was poor), by our centre halves at set pieces, and by the wing backs when they got int o goal scoring positions.

The main reason we're struggling to find exciting new strikers is that there aren't many out there better than Leon and Billy. If either were Waghorn's age they'd be commanding a transfer fee well in excess of the five million quid we've offered for Waghorn
.

I don't think Sharp or Clarke are past it yet, but Wilder obviously wasn't happy with something in the second half of the season when he played Wilson ahead of Sharp for the majority of games. Maybe he just doesn't think their partnership is dynamic enough....or they got too tired as a partnership as the season moved on.
I think not finding a bit of extra quality up front for this season will be detrimental to our ambitions.

I think we need younger strikers too but it doesn't mean I think Clarke, Sharp and McGoldrick are past it.

It would add good competition, more energy, and it's forward planning for the next few years.

I'm still expecting two to come in to give us different options and fight for places.

Seems to be looking less and less likely unless we can get someone on loan
