So he’s not going to WBA.
Will he go anywhere soon?
Maybe a League One outfit will beckon?

Wilder will always be a legend here for what he did but there is no getting away from the fact it is tarnished by how it ended. Going to WBA and taking them up instead of us would tarnish it even more, that's just the cold hard reality of it
Will he go to the fans and put his hand to the crest after a win or was that unique to us with him being a Blade? ... oh 💔

Wilder had removed his right to choose players given that his recruitment after we got to the Premier League was:
C Robinson - out on loan after 6 months
Freeman - out on loan after a year
Mousset - huge question marks over fitness, application and attitude
McBurnie - jury definitely out
Rodwell - two appearances in 18 months including getting a contract extension last summer
J Robinson - will be decent backup in the Championship
Foderingham - League One Wes. On a three year deal. This was the one which set the alarm bells ringing for me
Ramsdale - coming good and in retrospect £13.5m isn't too bad
Lowe - unproven. Smells a bit like a deal with Derby to avoid a sell-on fee for Bogle*
Bogle - exciting prospect
Brewster - jury definitely out
Burke - just an awful footballer

I'm excluding Verrips and Berge as those were clearly not Wilder's choice. Same goes for the players signed for the 23s.

Why would any chairman in the top two divisions take a chance on him given his record in the transfer market and in developing players over the last two years? Add to that the absolute abomination of a season that we've just had and it's clearly a more difficult decision than the one you're portraying.

On the point about wages - I would be amazed if we couldn't have signed better players than the 12 above had Wilder allowed recruitment from overseas. West Ham signed Soucek and Coufal for a combined £25m. They're not going to be on mad money and in any case we'd have been able to comfortably exceed their Slavia salaries.

*bit like Spurs signing Davies and Vorm from Swansea for a combined £10m which conveniently worked out at £10m for Davies (no sell-on) and £0 for Vorm (25% sell-on)

Sell-on fee?? Bogle was at Derby when he was still at school.

The one thing Chris Wilder is a genius at is getting everyone on board, all going in the same direction as soon as he walks through the door. The patting of the badge gives that connection to supporters, I wouldn’t look to much into that.

He had one shit season with us and I was wanting him gone early on in the season as I didn’t see a way he was going to turn it around. Let’s not question whether he was a blade or not, we all know the answer to that.

You mean the 77%+ that voted for him to stay on in a poll? Snide post

No. When quoting my post you conveniently sidestepped the mention of tweeting.

If it wasn't clear enough for you, the Wilder arselickers I take issue with are the ones who were abusing Prince Abdullah and his family with unfounded allegations. The ones who were demonising Bettis with 'traitor' slurs. The ones who thought blind loyalty to their idol was good cause to stir up bother amongst our own fans.

Sorry if you think my pop is at people who reapect Wilder for what he did at United, it's not, because I am one of those admirers.

Apology retracted if you're one of the aforementioned Twitter morons.

That is music to my ears. Also, for what it's worth I would be happier to see a fresh, fired up Wilder somewhere. Give us, and him, a bit of distance.

(Why does this make me suddenly wary that he is nailed on for West Brom and these reporters are wrong 😂)

Apology required, I don’t do Twitter, my error.

I think Wagner's a good appointment for them. But on paper, I'd have been more concerned if they'd got Jokanovic.

As for Wilder, someone is going to get a very good manager there, but I'm not sure WBA seemed the right fit for him. I've no idea why, but I see him thriving at somewhere like Forest, or even Derby.

Feels like a case of penny wise pound foolish for wba. probably cheaper to pay some compo for wilder rather than sack a manager and his staff if it doesn’t work out.

have to say as much as I like wilder he didn’t do himself any favours with the way he spoke about the board (repeatedly) … especially after being backed with 120m + in a global pandemic. It might have an effect on how he’s viewed to be honest, especially as he was publicly backed by the prince and board on multiple occasions and told he’s have a job even if we went down.

But they might pay compo for wilder and he carries on last seasons form and they have to pay him off ?!?!?

Wilder showed himself to be a Mardy arse control freak , he might have to restart his career at a bottom end championship or higher end league one club ... did himself no favours after Christmas!

Agreed. As much as I liked him, you could (potentially) see from Wits Twitter messages how Wilder attributed all of the club's success to himself. Comments about the Prince only putting in the money that Wilder had generated etc.

I'd be intrigued to know who was in control of the wage structure. We were all quick to blame the board on that front, but I wonder if that's just how Wilder chose to spend his money - when, for instance, maybe we could have signed Callum Wilson, Emi Martinez etc. in lieu of the targeting youth policy.

wilder will be a success again in His next job - imo. Just like he has been basically wherever he has been. I don’t think he’s a busted flush, I honestly think he’d be worth a shot at one of the open PL jobs - though I could be proven wrong.

I would have been more worried about WBA being a rival for promotion under Wilder.

Wagner set a new record for winless games at Schalke, and his win percentage at every club he's managed (including Huddersfield) has never gone above 35%

Cant see them getting automatic promotion, maybe playoffs... at best

agree - i feel there must have been some flexibility in the way we operated.

the 20 mill fee on Brewster would be 80k a week for someone for a 4 year contract. We could have got balogun (for less than half a Brewster) and paid someone else higher wages with the difference

This is what I’ve tried to tell people for years, when Wilder first came in he said regarding the clubs finances that he would never put the club in jeopardy, this is why he’s never gone mad spending big on wages and I admire him for his stance on this.

I do think the money was there if needed but if Wilder didn’t think it represented value for money then he was having none of it, trying to get this through to folk has been very hard though.

He’s made loads of mistakes and it could’ve ultimately halted his time here but I’m not going to fault him for this one, he always had the clubs best interests at heart no matter how poor his judgement and decisions were in the last season.
