you don't remember all the talk & discussion on threads last season of it being a possibility then.....Oh that's right, thankfully we didn't have you gracing us on this forum with your needle sharp opinions & views.
But that doesn’t mean we ‘nearly got there’?
Europa maybe, Champions League no chance
and oh, didn’t we...?

Was going to say, i think the previous poster was getting confused with champions league and Europa.

We never came close to flirting with Champions League positions
no, wasn't confusing the issue. May have been a few what if and buts in discussions during lockdown but its not often a Sheffield United fan is in a position to consider Europe & even possibilities (although only briefly) of champions league

You’re not reyt in the head are you? I haven’t said such a thing about what he’s achieved. The reason I’ve said some won’t remember him fondly are because he could still be here now but decided to fuck us off as soon as the going got tough, get that in to your thick bonce.
If people are stupid enough to not remember somebody who did all that fondly then that's on them

A lot of click bait sites reporting that Wilder cannot agree terms, budget and responsibilities with WBA who are now looking at alternatives.
There will be a number of opportunities in the premier league this close season as managers shuffle to get into the box seat at Everton and Crystal Palace, intrigued to see where he will end up.

He was good more than he was shit. But he and his team were historically shit from Villa away post lockdown to his resignation. Not scoring more than a goal every other game is a problem. Not even trying to vary how you go about attacking during that time is terminal.

It's wishful thinking to say how he'll be remembered isn't tainted.

Well with 9 games to go it was in our hands. I'd say that was "nearly". How long will it take your team to be that close? I'd suggest around 50 years
How long will it take my team? God knows, apparently we nearly got there the season before last but only a handful of people actually remember it that way.

It’s not wishful thinking, it’s fucking barmy

They aren’t stupid, they will remember what he did, all of what he did both right and wrong, that’s the point. The clusterfuck he’s made of everything after the great job he’d originally done has undone most if not all of his hard work, if you can’t see that then you’re the ‘stupid’ one.

I honestly wish he was still here, I really do, to see how he’d gone about things, see what he’d have changed, even though the evidence suggests he’d change fuck all.

I still wanted to see him here this season regardless of what you or anyone else thinks as would most Blades I’d have thought. That’s the loyalty us fans have, unlike Chris of course who decided to fuck off when it got a bit sticky.

Picture this though, if you and your lass had 4 good years but then she decided to fuck you off with the ugliest twat going after shagging him for months would you remember her fondly and wish her the best of luck? Would you fuck!

Fuck me this is like pulling teeth.

nearly qualified for Europe - OK, accepted we nearly qualified for Europe

nearly qualified for the Champions League - no, we didn't. We were 5 places and 12 points off the Champions League, that's not nearly at all.

He’s had a bit of a drink last night I think, bless him

Don’t really think there’s any point in slagging off wilder - he did great things for us but I think it all got to much in the end and he couldn’t handle getting beaten every week when everything went against us. Little gripes became exaggerated and he just didn’t want to do it anymore. not saying he was faultless (his transfers etc etc) but one truely shit season doesn’t invalidate 4 great ones.

Give how the results were impacting him I find it truly incredible he didn’t try change anything at all, even slightly!! He Kept persisting with the same stuff over and over and just seemed to hope it would somehow work. No one can convince me heckingbottom Is a better manager but he got a couple of results after tweaking things. In a parallel universe Wilder tries a number 10 in October and we pick up a couple of wins and we are at least competing at the bottom towards the end of the season. We would probably still have gone down but it was insane he changed fuck all.

I think to be fair, we all kept watching, expecting things to change, just waiting for something to click and at some point in a game they would suddenly be back to the form they showed pre lockdown, granted we had zero input or ability to change things.

It's really dragging this, which can only be a good thing for United in my view and presumably there must be an issue with the Wilder appointment, amid rumours that they're own board can't agree on who they want.

I think it's to do with the fact that at one point we were 5th in the EPL.

We drifted away by 12 points in the end which was such a disappointment

We went into lockdown in 7th, 5 points behind 4th placed Chelsea but with a game in hand. That game in hand was against second-bottom Aston Villa, a side we'd deservedly beaten at the Lane in December. It's not unreasonable to suggest that had we not lost the plot after March 2020 we may well have finished in the top 6.

I get that but anyone who thinks that being 5th "at one point" equates to "nearly" qualifying for the Champions League then you have been taking Deludamol because you are talking complete and utter Pigonomics. At the end of the season, when it counts, we were 5 places and 12 points adrift of a Champions League place, in other words........fucking miles off.

"At one point" this season, (after beating West Brom at home) we were 11 points from safety so by the same logic you could say we "nearly" stayed up...........

Not forgetting we would have beaten Arse in the Cup

I was merely speculating as to why people would say that we nearly made the Champions League

Anyway, we did nearly stay up :p ;)
