Still no takers for Monty yet?

According to some on here I thought Monty had some sort of re-sale value?

He coulda bin sumbardy... :)

Not quite. If Monty was paid a Division 1 wage, we'd have sold him for a fee long ago.

Remember he was transfer listed by Warnock when he was on less money.

Still no takers back then, coincidence?

There was, only he was injured and it turned out it was worse than they'd originally thought...

Not that I want to drag up that old arguement for everyone to call me a liar.

The manager who wished to take him is back in a job in the Premiership

Always seems to be injured when people are interested in signing him.

Funny that.

I thought you said no-one was interested in signing him?

A lot of people interested but never a bid but always an excuse is ready as to why no bid was made.

He is not a player that is massively injury prone why are there never any bids for him when he is fit? He has spent the last decade fully fit 95% of the time.

If people were that interested they would come back for him.

Millwall seemed like the only club seriously interested in him and decided they were better off as they were.

Given that he's still with us, it's a little bit hard to have anything but an "excuse" for him not leaving really isn't it?

He spends most of his time playing through injuries, never mind being fully fit.

If people were that interested they would come back for him.

The manager I speak of found himself shopping in an entirely different aisle when he returned to fitness.

I never doubted that there was interest in him but I find it odd that bar Millwall no one has made a serious offer to take him in 10 years. Although maybe you are right there has always been a good reason that he has not left sooner.

Well i'm assuming that manager is Sam Allardyce.

If Montgomery was any good, or was worth anything, he would have been sold. Everyone else falling into either of these categories has been sold.

What baffles me (but prob doesn't really with today's footballers) is that with the amount of time NM as spent at the club , the lack of regard he is showing to club in terms of helping them through their financial problems. I could understand a ex establish premiership player or journey men but for somebody who knows the club inside and out, I thought he would be one of the first to say, "look, I feel for club. Let try and work something out"

For somebody who is regarded as giving 110% to the club with his limited skills, when he finally leaves (be it at the end of the season when his contracts runs out as I can't see him changing his position now), he won't be remembered for the good things but for one someone who looked after his own interested. Give it a second after his contract expires next summer, people will be on here giving him verbal abuse (most likely swear words will be used) and everything good will b forgotten.

The club can pay his wages - we're not in administration here. McCabe has been subsidising them for years. So why should Monty volunteer to a pay cut because the man who authorised his contract suddenly decides it's too expensive?

It's the club's fault for failing to enter a relegation triggered pay cut.

The only candidates as far as I can tell are Chris Hughton and Paul Lambert, with Nigel Adkins as an outsider. However, would they have been interested in their previous jobs? Can't see it.

Any further clues Foxy?!

But seeing how the club can't afford to pay the tea lady with a number of staff being laid off, you would think, being a long serving member of the club, he would feel our plight and offer us something. But like all true footballers......

where in the real world, many of us have to take a wage cut or lose our jobs and that's even before a company goes into administration.

Aye, but my point is just that McCabe is a very rich man. He can afford to continue paying out, but is fed up with doing so. If he/we genuinely couldn't pay Monty's wages then fair enough, expect him to take a cut.

But since the mess is McCabe's doing and he agreed the contract.... I'd expect him to pay it if I were Montenbauer.

but with the Salary cap, it matters little how rich McCabe is.

True enough. But I still don't see why Monty should volunteer to a pay cut just because the club can't manage itself properly. The club can still honour his contract (even if it's an unpleasant proposition), so they should do exactly that*.

* or facilitate a deal with another club.
