I’m in favour of returning to 3-4-1-2 (Duffy/McGoldrick period) or 3-5-1-1 (Ndiaye season).
One thing we miss is a proper genuine number 10.
Ings, Cannon am Campbell are all 9s. Not on the Keiffer Moore target man sense, but in the poacher, or mobile forward.
When we last got promoted, we had Didzy as a 10 or Ndiaye as one.
Both Gus and O’Hare are really number 8s. They are very advanced midfielders but they are not attackers really. You wouldn’t say O’Hare is the same as Didzy for instance.
I just wonder if we could be bold and push Marsh in. He’s always struck me as a very clever player. Some players need loans. Others just need to be thrown in, like David Brooks. Yes he had a mini loan at Halifax or somewhere like that but we had that choice to send him to Chesterfield or keep him and we did the latter and he prospered.
I’m thinking the pathway could open for Marsh if Wilder chooses the right formation.
I know it is U21 football but the guy knows where the net is. A hat-trick the other day shouldn’t go unrewarded and it’s not as if other forwards are making compelling case right now.
Hamer as a Duffy and Marsh just off Ings and I really like the look of that. You still have depth to bring others in and change games from the bench, but I like the idea of at least giving him the chance to show he could be a solution. He’s not a teenager anymore. What a shame if he just drifted off without even being given a shot.
