Player Suggestion Conor Hourahane

There are enough dead wood midfielders in the team without paying the wages of someone else's rejects, get rid in Jan as a start of the cull of crap

He was needed to provide cover in case of injury/illness/suspension, as are several of the squad players. That is why there is a 23 man squad.
If he is replaced by someone better than we have at present, then the current player becomes part of the rarely used squad.
Surely he was brought in to challenge for a place rather than just make up the numbers?

I hoped he’d be playing regularly & have a big impact but I haven’t been impressed by what I’ve seen of him, doesn’t seem like the player he was (not surprising Villa were happy to loan him out). Would happily see him go back in January.

Assume we do have the option to send him back in January? Then yes we should. Fingers crossed we have the option to do the same with Olsen as well. 2 very expensive players who don’t belong to us who are doing nothing for the side at present. We already have enough players who ARE ours that need shipping out.

Dean smith knows his stuff wanting the finest midfielder in the championship, and you know the line, when the big boys come calling you cant stand in there way. Would be a real shame for him to leave, now ill warm the car up and drive him to norwich myself.

He has taken the best corners we have had in the last 5 years and you want him to leave ? Then we have no competition for Fleck’s place unless we find another left footed midfielder.

Dead ball specialist is not remotely close to being enough to being an irreplaceable squad member.

He's been a very disappointing signing, having not been able to displace either Fleck or Norwood. And will be on a chunk of wages, which I'd guess we are paying the lions share.

If we can send him back and repurpose loan spot and wages to get a replacement in who can slot into first 11 its a no brainer.

i think slav has seen enough of him and will want to get better

Two very big “ifs” in there.
If we can find any players who are better than what we have AND want to come here then that would be wonderful, but in the meantime I will live in the real world of SUFC !

Unfortunately in this real world Hourihane was spectacularly and brutally called out by Jokanovic when he dragged him off after 37 minutes against Millwall, and he's barely featured since. He isn't good enough. Fleck and Norwood aren't good enough either but Hourihane isn't the answer.

Sadly he is the answer until we can find and sign a replacement that is better than Fleck.

If we were able to wheel him onto the pitch to take set pieces like a kicker in American Football then keeping him would make sense. As it is, his all-round game is poor and he can't justify a place in our side.

Quite what that says about Norwich's ambitions is another discussion entirely because if he can't cope with the pace of the Championship he's going to get destroyed in the Premier League.

That substitution wasn't about Hourihane though, it was about changing the shape. If it was to make a point about a poor performance then Fleck and Didsy would've been pulled before Hourihane was.

You must be joking. Not since Dean Hammond have I seen one of our players hide from responsibility like Hourihane did in those 37 minutes against Millwall. It was like playing with 10 men. He made Fleck and Didsy look outstanding he was that bad. From just 5 minutes in it was difficult to read whether he just didn’t understand the role asked of him or whether he just wasn’t up to the task. There were plenty around me on the kop who felt the same way at the time. It’s bad enough with Fleck being so badly out of form without carrying someone who doesn’t belong to us who we might be able to let go

Why would I be joking? It was fairly obvious at the time that the substitution was about changing the shape. Didsy could barely even control the ball in that first half and he missed several good chances that eventually cost us the game.

As I’ve said before about Hourihane, he’s started two games. After one of them everyone was singing his praises, after the other he’s spoken about as if he’s the worst player who’s ever played for us.

We will agree to disagree. If you genuinely feel that there were other players that were having a poorer game than Hourihane when he was hooked we must have been watching different matches. Granted he’s had few opportunities but if you reflect how poor Norwood and Fleck have been doesn’t that say something about him? He’s produced a couple of fantastic corners for us at Hull. That’s it. For the money we are paying him I’d say that’s not good enough

Hourihane isn’t a shocking player like Hammond but he isn’t better than what we have and I don’t think he has the athleticism to offer something different. It makes sense to send him back and see if we can bring in an energetic DM
agree with that yogi i think if we could just bring an athletic physical dm in come january it will make a big difference for our dithering defence

He did ok today. Got on the ball, fired it out of play a couple of times admittedly, but also took a decent corner, had a couple of shots that almost hit the target and didn't hide, noticeably better in the second half

Anyone notice his little sprint towards the touchline when Osborn came on ,only to find out it was Stevens going off ?
Yep! Looked keen to come, it was close to getting toxic but have to give him credit for sticking at it and improving. Was very poor on the ball first half and also isn't great out possession but didn't hide and looked like he was trying to get us going.
