Gone Elsewhere Conor Coady

Isn’t he the wolves captain who played every minute last season and getting England buzz.

Absolutely no chance they are selling him imo.

If he is going for 7mil then we should certainly be looking at him.

We missed the boat with Coady when we assumed he was too expensive after his loan with us and didn’t bother enquiring - only for Huddersfield to buy him for £450,000. That turned out well for us. Great player, Wolves won’t be letting him go anywhere.

Or more likely, we tried to sign him but Coady decided to sign for a Championship club rather than a League One club.

Unfortunately we missed that chance of signing him penny pinching, won't have a chance

Not completely a disaster ultimately. When we realised we couldn’t get our first choice of an all-round midfielder that could double-up as a defender, we went to a cheap out-of-contract option.

The rest is history.

Didn't Utd sign James Wallace instead of Coady?

Villa sign another.

The El Ghazi and Hause deal were agreed in principle to be a permanent deal so my guess is they were much easier to sort out then starting from scratch.

I don't think Villa will be in the relegation scrap to be honest, not the way they're going about recruitment and they already have Grealish and McGinn who I think will flourish in the Prem - not that I don't think Fleck and Norwood won't be.

I'm more concerned with the recruitment of Burnley, Norwich and Brighton and in particular who wins the race for Ollie McBurnie.

Saying that, who knows, maybe Villa will do a Fulham and spend a fortune and get relegated!

We could have had John McGinn and (possibly) Coady that summer. That would've just about sorted our midfield for L1. Then there was Duffy for 50k when we flogged Blackman in January 2013.

But why bother investing a few hundred grand in sure things. How many of those players did we senselessly ignore pre Wilder...

What awful, penny pinchingly backward days those were. Clueless, from top to bottom.

That's as maybe, but there was some serious misinformation about how much we bid for Coady.

How do you know we didn’t enquire, and what wage was he demanding?

All in retrospect though isn’t it.

Would you really have trusted any of our managers pre wilder with the players? They might have had a good season but we’d have sold them for a million or so ala Murphy straight away so the point would have been moot by the time wilder arrived.

With that midfield there might never have been a fleck or coutts and finding the perfect 2 players centrebacks for the current system.

Wilder was what was needed to pull the club together and imo he needed to cut his teeth properly in the league to get where he is with Alan knill today.

Wilder confirmed today that he tried to sign Conor Coady. Not sure that was ever made official. He'd have been superb for us.
