What's the betting that Hammond's contract isn't just for one year?

Thinking exactly the same. Funny how the press release doesn't include it. Going to be wasting a significant amount of the wage budget on him and j Wallace.

1 step forwards, 2 steps back!

Hammond taking money out of a club that doesnt want him,he HAS got to warm up and face his dues, minds you id get some verbal for several grand.

Hammond joined the club on 20th October initially until the end of January. This as we know was extended on 15th January. The Transfer Board was in place when Hammond was initially signed (chaired by Brannagan) and, in an interview on 26th October, JIm Phipps said (re transfers) -

"All such questions are left to our Technical Board (MD, football manager, FD, academy manager etc) to decide, provided they stay within board approved budgets and parameters.

In a thinly-veiled attack on previous manager Nigel Clough, he added; "That said, some of the current problems in the side (its size, for example) are byproducts of our trying as a board to be true to our approach, in circumstances where we allowed the Technical Board process to be thoroughly undermined by a gaffer who was not interested in the process; hence, some of the excesses (recruiting in quantity, signing injured players etc). We should have seen what was happening (the excesses anyway) and responded to them more quickly.

"In appointing a new football manager last summer, we specifically set out to find a gaffer who would help us re-establish a process that would prevent the repetition of the same mistakes. I am very happy with the progress we have made on this particular front and believe the fruits of the Technical Board process will show themselves over time, if we stick to the process."

The Board was overhauled on Dec 7th

"David (Green) is the owner of Renishaw based Green Piling Ltd and is a previous Chairman and Honorary Vice Chairman and his new role at the club will see him Chair the Technical Board, which directs football recruitment at all levels within the club.....

Also of Sheffield United Limited, Carl Shieber joins the Technical Board as Player Contract Negotiation Manager, and this is a function he has performed previously for the club.

Managing Director Malachy Brannigan will now leave the club with immediate effect after his almost two years in the post, and the Board wished to place their sincere thanks for all his hard work on the record."

I would be very surprised if Hammond's "extension" was part of his initial loan, more probably it came in January when the current Technical Board was in place.

Now you I wouldn't be surprised by that.

Already being here he is far less likely to worry so much about the terms of the extension in January.

Alas we can both only speculate as we will never know the full details but it is interesting that the aforementioned Mal Brannigan is no longer with us and has been replaced by a man without football experience or connections.

But the devil IS in the detail and we will never know

As much abuse as Hammond is getting here, much deserved it may be, he is categorically not the one to blame.

If some daft cunt offered you a ridiculous contract tomorrow, securing a better future for you and your family, would you turn it down ?

Me thinks not.

Fault is fairly and squarely at the hands of those knobs that put the contract together in the first place. Chief knob being Adkins.

This must have surely cost him his job.

UTB.

You're treating Hammond here as if he's an automaton*, without any choice in the matter.

Whatever blame Adkins, Turnbull, the Technical Board, the board as a whole carry (& they do) - Hammond most certainly is to blame too. He's a mercenary cunt of the highest order, leeching on SUFC, & very consciously so.

(* Given his performances, maybe justifiably.)

Other than that, great job. Imagine McNulty and Scougs may be off too but haven't been TL as Pompey/Fleetwood already have deals lined up for them.

Hope so ....... McNuts is a "problem child" which is a shame but we don't want his attitude problems around the squad next season and Scougal has proved for 2 years that he can't hack it in this Division so he needs to be listed as well if Fleetwood don't come in for him.

UTB & FTP

Don't think you can blame the club for Hammond.

Most wanted him to sign originally - He was a prem player.

if he'd come in and done brilliantly then we'd lost him to a champo club - We'd also be fuming.

Turned out he was a slow splay footed twat with no redeeming features but that's life. Hopefully we can get rid soon, it does show a lack of professionalism to sign where you arnt wanted at all tho

But normally the club gets the option, not the player. It's yet another bizarre contract clause that's screwed us over.

Before this, Hammond was a Premiership loan gamble that turned out badly. Now, he's the worst signing we've ever made. Must be a world record time from signing to transfer list.

I'm actually really encouraged by this overall. Wilder is making a clear statement that he isn't interested in any of the dross we've been putting up with. Still feels weird to be this happy about shipping out this many players but it's the only way we'll have a chance next season.

Well done Chris Wilder.a good start with a stiff broom sweeping away a lot of debris
Why was Adkins unable to start his reign with such decisiveness we could ask. Augers well for the future
Because the players had a further year on their contracts and we couldn't.

One contract offered to Long says it all about our squad.

Scougall / McNulty - may be off to fleetwood / Pompey so no need to transfer list them and damage any value. If not they will be here too.

Issue is its alright transfer listing those players but who is going to take them off us?

Think who is going to take Hammond off us?

Yeah, it'll be tough finding a buyer for someone like Coutts but it's at least a big statement of intent from the manager. I'd even give the board some credit for okaying such a major clear out if I weren't fuming over Hammond.

Unless of course Hammond's the consummate professional and does want to fight for his place. Could he have been so poor because he saw through Adkins wankspeak & wanted him out so he can lead us to 100 points next season?

Where's my coat?

Could it be that Wilder knows that Adkins, when he gets his new club will want Hammond and we get a fee. Could be a smart move. It may also be that Wilder ignores our Mass Hysteria and being a professional footballer himself knows how to get the best out of him with the right players around him. I don't believe a player can look that bad ,there must be other reasons.
Only Wilder knows ,and if Wilder picks him if he stays it will be for a reason that has shown up in training and I will give him my full support . I trust Wilders professional judgement. Only time will tell . So all stop being hysterical.

Wilder does know, he stuck he straight on the transfer list.. He know, his mates will have told him a million times how bad Hammond was.

Applauded off last time he played, he is done at the Lane, just taking Cowards Money

Agree with all comments above, am I the only one who saw some potential in Mcghahey though? Thought he looked to have enough about him to kick on and improve given time and games

Yes me too. Liked to take the ball forward. Surprised he's not required.

Would it be acceptable to find out Hammonds address, publish it online then picket his house and abuse him and his family every day until he agrees to fuck off?

Going too far?.
Yes it is going to far, by a long way.

Scougall does have the fitness that's required from Wilder's high tempo style. It will be interesting to see if Wilder is willing to give him a chance.

As someone else said, Wilder publicly criticised and transfer listed O'Toole at Northampton, which made him work harder, get and take his chance, and he eventually became a vital player who got double figures from midfield as they won the title. He may be hoping for a similar reaction from one or two of the transfer listed players, possibly De Girolamo or Freeman.

Despite the annoying thing with Hammond, I agree 100% with every decision from Wilder today, and it's not just because I'm fed up with the current bunch of players. Wilder clearly has an idea of which players are suited to his style of football, and won't settle for players who may be "okay".

Clearly you have an image of Bert as a little old man who you think you can bully and demean.
Name a time and a place and Bert will come to see you and we will see if you have the balls to carry on with your shit to his face.

Keyboard warrior alert....:D

Hes not a robot.

Hes a human being with a young family.

Yes he is a shit footballer and has no place in our upwardly mobile squad going forwards, but I don't blame him. As I say, I would defy any Blades fan to put the long term financial interest and stability of his/her family below the interests of the football club. And no one would expect it.

Hammond isn't even a fan so who could blame him for not giving a shit.

The blame is with Adkins and anyone else responsible for what I will now refer to as the madness clause.

Scougall has the fitness you say.

Not from where I sit he don't.

He hasn't cut the mustard and I am somewhat surprised he has escaped the cull.

I don't expect it will be too long before he is gone as well.NGE.

As I've said regarding similar comments about J.Wallace and McNulty, Scougall wasn't out of contract. If he was I'm sure he'd have been shown the door too.
