Has Adkins got the Charlton job yet? Then he can sign Hammond on a free transfer for them. Otherwise, Hammond needs to be sent to assist it the ticket office or the club shop. Train him to iron the letters and numbers on the new kit or summat?
Give over, that's far too easy for the packet we'll be paying him!!
Sweeping the car park on a regular basis with a 2" paint brush when it's raining would be a start. Cleaning the toilets throughout the ground on a Sunday is a good option. Then there's the academy lads boots that need scrubbing daily. The hotel needs hovering and the windows polished....... Inside and out

It ain't greed to ensure you get paid. We shouldn't have put the clause in. He hasn't done anything wrong here the blame is all on the club.

Seriously? Of course the club have done wrong here - but, for once, have thankfully acted very swiftly & publicly to right the wrong.

Unless Hammond's not planning on playing on playing football again, he was free to choose to move on. I'm sure the suggestion was put to him (to say the least). He deserves every bit of contempt that's being flung his way.

So who does this leave us as senior pros at the club?

Billy
Long (assuming he signs)
Brayford
Basham
Scougal
Done
Reed
Che
Hammond (Cunt)

Have I missed anyone?

Hope the fax machine is working, looks like we'll have a busy summer!
I would have kept - Billy, Brayford (or sold him for £500k) Che, maybe Flynn? Long? & Bash?
But not Scougall, Reed, Done all not good enough!

Going to be interesting

Pretty much agree on players we want out, now the big if is whats coming in. Can't remember any manager starting off like this, and all our future depends on what we'll bring in. We 're hopefully not taking too many Winston Bogardes on board. Winston who made a fortune at Chelsea training with the U-21's for a few years.

No club will match our wages for Hammond.

So we either

Pay him up
Or get someone to take him off us and we pay the difference in wages.

Which ever way its a massive fuck up and i reckon partly why Adkins was sacked.

or he becomes a kicking bag in training and the insurance has to pay up.

Nobody is going to pay Hammond the same or more than what he's on now.

He's waiting out his contract here unfortunately, despite knowing the manager, the fans and probably the board don't want him here.

A greedy bastard putting himself and his pocket before the club, basically.

He needs to be told to stay as far away from Shirecliffe and the Lane as possible.

The last thing we want is his greedy mindset around the existing squad and the new players Wilder brings in.
Totally the opposite for me Barney. Make his life unbearable, work him to the bone doing endless thankless tasks with the boundaries of his contract and give him the minimum time off allowed. He at least then may reconsider his position, even if it was out on loan. If we make life too easy he will sit on his arse forever. By signing he's already proved he doesn't give a fuck

Hey, stop now, towd Bert once had a serious episode in t'spoon's where his tipple was laced.with Sanatogen...he hasn't been the same since ...

Clearly you have an image of Bert as a little old man who you think you can bully and demean.
Name a time and a place and Bert will come to see you and we will see if you have the balls to carry on with your shit to his face.

True, but on the basis the clause allowed him to extend or for us to activate an extension on similar terms isn't this just business?

Crikey, if he had scored ten goals and carried all before him I reckon this thread would have a different tune after a championship club came calling and he left for zip.

HH
Puts a new spin on it, we tried to get rid, but if a player wants to stay, there's nothing we can do about it.

Agree

He shouldn't ever have to make a trip to Sheffield.

Lets see him get a transfer even a free one as he becomes the fat one.

No pre season and no training.

Should never kick a ball again, should look like Alan Brazil by October.

IF Adkins has any kind of sense, the next time one of his teams visit bdtbl he should throw a sickie...it wouldnt/won't be pretty.

To put a bit of context on matters;

Most supporters were happy and encouraged at the time Hammond signed, and if this news surrounding the clause in his contract had been announced then, I'd suspect a much gentler reaction would have followed.

If it had been the club exercising the option to extend then maybe.

I'm generally speaking absolutely delighted with Wilder's much-needed decimation if the squad. And hopefully we will move the rest on.

I'm not annoyed with Hammond per se, but I'm actually pretty angry with Adkins for lying when saying no deals had been offered to any players, when actually it had been agreed before hand. Totally disingenuous.

Hammond and Adkins, worse than Megson.

Never thought I'd say that.

I think the Technical Board was probably put in place when the clause in Hammond's contract came to light so it would be a bit harsh to blame them for that situation.

Hammond joined the club on 20th October initially until the end of January. This as we know was extended on 15th January. The Transfer Board was in place when Hammond was initially signed (chaired by Brannagan) and, in an interview on 26th October, JIm Phipps said (re transfers) -

"All such questions are left to our Technical Board (MD, football manager, FD, academy manager etc) to decide, provided they stay within board approved budgets and parameters.

In a thinly-veiled attack on previous manager Nigel Clough, he added; "That said, some of the current problems in the side (its size, for example) are byproducts of our trying as a board to be true to our approach, in circumstances where we allowed the Technical Board process to be thoroughly undermined by a gaffer who was not interested in the process; hence, some of the excesses (recruiting in quantity, signing injured players etc). We should have seen what was happening (the excesses anyway) and responded to them more quickly.

"In appointing a new football manager last summer, we specifically set out to find a gaffer who would help us re-establish a process that would prevent the repetition of the same mistakes. I am very happy with the progress we have made on this particular front and believe the fruits of the Technical Board process will show themselves over time, if we stick to the process."

The Board was overhauled on Dec 7th

"David (Green) is the owner of Renishaw based Green Piling Ltd and is a previous Chairman and Honorary Vice Chairman and his new role at the club will see him Chair the Technical Board, which directs football recruitment at all levels within the club.....

Also of Sheffield United Limited, Carl Shieber joins the Technical Board as Player Contract Negotiation Manager, and this is a function he has performed previously for the club.

Managing Director Malachy Brannigan will now leave the club with immediate effect after his almost two years in the post, and the Board wished to place their sincere thanks for all his hard work on the record."

I would be very surprised if Hammond's "extension" was part of his initial loan, more probably it came in January when the current Technical Board was in place.

If it had been the club exercising the option to extend then maybe.
The clause was clearly one that allowed Hammond to activate a permanent deal at the end of his loan spell.

I'm just saying that had the news of that clause broke at the time, the reaction would have been a lot different.

If Hammond insists on being at the club I would make him boot boy for the first team and every home game make him can wear the captain blade costume and entertain us that way, cos he certainly doesn't when he plays - humiliate the nasty little shit who disappeared early on the day of the final match and avoided the lap of shame.
I would make him play the first 2 minutes of every home game, so the fans can boooooo him off the field every game, do you think he would get the message?

To be fair Akins pursued him like a lovesick puppy. I doubt that he wanted to come and i suspect that he needed the guarantee of a contract to make the risk to his reputation worth taking.

Nobody comes out of this well but when it come to blame Adkins has to shoulder by far the biggest burden, he was meant to be the football brains of the operation.

My biggest fear now is the Dan Burn activates his clause and turns up crocked and transfer listed on 1st July.
