neigh...........smith is no big loss BUT Billy boy an Wardy two different fish, word is Billy is off soon and Wardy before Christmas, Paddy to me can be replaced with better BUT is McCabe skint ?![]()
So we are now losing players to Huddersfield.
Who next to go?
Dont know where you sit mate but from block F and previously G and H in the south stand we get a first rate view of our full backs play
He was often taken to the cleaners pace wise not only by wingers but with his lack of pace to get back when he had ventured up .
Mty mates favourite call was "for f*ck sake Naysmith get back and cover"
for your information Bromby was piss poor too at full back ,you could often see the whole of that end of the south stand rocking backwards and forwards with him as he rocked on his heels trying to decide when to attack the ball
Naysmith played what ?2 or 3 game last season no great loss in my book ,31 year old and crocked
Mate of mine who's a Norwich STH text me a rumour that we're after Simon Lappin from them. Shame to see Naysmith go. The only saving grace is that Stewart and Taylor are waiting in the wings!!
I'm in Cooperblades 'tiny minority' and I think Taylor will become a good left back.
Gaz I hope that is some kinda sick joke, Lappin is only slightly better than Stewart!
Yeah, but, ARE they going nuts?? Or have we sunk to such a level we cannot compete with Huddersfield Town's wage structure??I expected Naysmith would leave ever since the reprofiling began, and I thought wages would be the issue. It's only the destination that's a surprise.
Huddersfield might be a shock choice, but if they're going nuts with wages then that's not our concern. Given his age and recent injury I fully understand United's decision not to push the boat out for him. And I'm even less surprised that Naysmith doesn't feel any sense of debt to United. We paid his wages when he was injured because we had to. That's not a show of loyalty, it's a contractual arrangement.
My only concern here is our capacity to replace him. The cover we currently have in that position is as poor as any I've seen in my twenty years of watching.

I would be utterly befuddled if Huddersfield have a higher budget than we do. But given our budget is being slashed while theirs appears to be getting bigger, that suggests to me they are more prepared to gamble on his fitness.
It's purely speculation on my part but I reckon the weekly wages on offer wouldn't have been much different but the length of the contract would have swung his decision. For a 30-something who's just spent a year out I guess a 2 year offer is golden.
Would you have offered him more than a year?
Birch's statement on the official website:

Doesn't say much other than to strongly imply that Huddersfield have offered significantly more lolly. No mention of the length of contract offered by United.
this effectively means we cannot offer deals to the standard of hudderfield town. fantastic.

It might mean we don't know the full details of the matter.
