as this is in very short supply.

I really believe that Wilder will turn things around as per my posts on other threads re previous rebuilds etc etc.

Key to it all is possibly lack of effort and motivation and clearly some players who think they are above the level that we're currently at.

If the rumours are true about Campbell, Cooper and Hamer [Peck?](and others?) moving to other clubs then these deals not happening for whatever reason, that would be a big financial hit.

Plus the huge disappointment of missing out on promotion to the PL in the dying seconds at Wembley.

These guys are human and will need to recover their motivation.

Then in comes a new coach who rips up everything and enforces a whole new system which makes no sense to anybody and fails catastrophically.

Anyway her comes the good bit [with a hint of optimism]

My view is that the steel and creativity has disappeared from the midfield and thats why we're struggling to create and finish off chances.

If (its a big if) we can get Blaster and Davies back fit and firing they could potentially transform the middle of the park into a solid unit with multiple chances being created for strikers.

I will be a huge lift for the whole squad to have their quality and enthusiasm back and plenty of back-up to ease them in ie Soumare, Matos, Peck etc

If I missed out on a sale and then went on a run of bad form similar to not turning up/lacking motivation. HR would be speaking to me to arrange my P45, at the end of the day, if you love your "job" that much it can't be bad being on a reported £30,000 a week like Gus even after the tax man has had his share is still a nice return for doing not a right lot at present. In some ways if the rumours about Gus were true around £12-13milllion, it could have been worth cashing in to replace with a few squad players. with at least a RB and, CF which investing in the right markets could have sorted at least those spots. I can understand injury problems to some extent as you can easily have a run of bad luck however their shouldn't be an excuse of lacking in fitness levels, motivation and the genuine will to want to win.

Totally agree with your viewpoint and 99% of the population would be bombed out if we downed tools for whatever reason.

Footballers though are a different breed. They're treated like big babies with everything done for them (by agents, management teams) most not even savvy enough to pay their own bills.

They are also potentially able to double (triple) their salaries with a switch to an alternative employer which would be an alien concept to us.

Being that entitled must be a nightmare for football club managers / coaches to have to deal with.

They can sulk if they dont get their own way.

United's shot on target % is 15.1%. League average is around 30-34%. Last season was 31%. The worst SoT % we've had in the last 10 seasons is 30.5%. That will almost certainly improve which would mean we'll likely score. Eventually

We also have the highest shot on target against % at 40.9%. That'll likely come down

Whilst I admire your desire for positivity, putting the hopes and dreams on Blaster and Davies being fit and rescuing our season is perhaps a little optimistic.

Not sure we’ll much of either before Xmas

They also only have a limited time in their chosen career to make their money so have to be (I use this term loosely) selfish with finances. Its not like its a job for life.

I agree with all what your saying, but I don't think the comparision to "real life" makes sense when looking at footballers.

Wilder said in one of his interviews that Blasters 'setback' was a bit of fluid on the knee, which does'nt sound too bad. Some on here were saying he'd had another op which was B/S.

He also said that Davies could be ready for Oxford or if not definitely next game [Southampton].

Ings - dont know, nothing mentioned.

A lot of it has been rinse and repeat for what it is worth, for all the square pegs in round holes etc that we have been playing, creating a formation based around a 3-5-2

I am not being 100% serious on this one really however in some ways if Seriki can nail down the RWB position (also have Ogbene for that too) however from watching videos of them both we all know the pace of Ogbene is exceptional so good in fact he was the fastest player (on sprints speed) in the Premier League during the 2023/2024 season. Chong also has unbelievable pace and likes to take on players especially down the left channels. Hamer/O'Hare could be the false 9 with the aim to take the ball on at pace through Chong and Ogbene, might need to tweak this slightly but work in progress and potential when Ing's is fit, drop O'Hare playing, Ings in front of Hamer and behind Chong & Ogbene. We would be rapid on the counter attack for one.

Draining the fluid off a knee counts as an operation so there was an element of truth in that, even if it's far less serious than was being made out.

I'd have packed in after the first sentence lol

I reckon that Wilder might give the players one more go at putting a performance in and if that fails he will make wholesale changes for Southampton.

Wholesale changes for who though?

The players that came on off the bench on Saturday made us noticeably worse than the ones they replaced and it was a low bar to start with.

They said on Radio Sheffield Ings was a hamstring “tweak” before the Ipswich game.

Back to reality ?

Here's real facts.

Tom Davies is hardly ever fit and is unlikely to have a long enough injury-free run in the side to affect things.

Blaster has been out almost a year.
There is absolutely no guarantee that he will return to anything like the form he had when he last played.
Serious injuries like his have a profound effect upon a player's future ability when under the pressure of a real game.

It is too optimistic to mention either of their names in connection with solving our midfield malaise.

Its the hope that kills you, so less of the positivity please and more of the reality, we are nailed on for relegation at this moment in time. 40 games to go though, sugar, I'm being positive 😂 😂 Should have said only 40 more games to suffer.

We almost got a point and whilst that wouldn't have made much of a difference to our league position or turned the season around, it would have given us something to build on.

When you watch some of the teams in and around us and how poor they are quality wise it's really bizarre that we are where we are.

But the big difference is is that some of them are putting in incredible levels of workrate and running and really getting stuck in and theyre getting the results from it.

We are not doing that at all.
