I'm in Cooperblades 'tiny minority' and I think Taylor will become a good left back.

neigh...........smith is no big loss BUT Billy boy an Wardy two different fish, word is Billy is off soon and Wardy before Christmas, Paddy to me can be replaced with better BUT is McCabe skint ?

Yes, the left hand side of our defence looked sensational last season without Naysmith and he didn't look different class the moment he reappeared at all.
If the two defensive signings being mooted are right, they're just as old and just as injury prone - and not in the same class.

Mate of mine who's a Norwich STH text me a rumour that we're after Simon Lappin from them. Shame to see Naysmith go. The only saving grace is that Stewart and Taylor are waiting in the wings!!

Did we only offer one year? And was it performance related?

Im glad we didnt sign him on for another 2 years. What if he got injured for a near full season again?

I hope with the spare money we sign someone young who will improve with time.
Hopefully Taylor might have improved after his 1st season at this level.

How about Ian Harte as a replacement?? I know he's 103 but i think he could do a job for us. (And i don't mean putting the bins out!)

So we are now losing players to Huddersfield.

Who next to go?

I wish Naysmith the best of luck in Huddersfield, and doubt we'll ever see him again in the Championship. I'm joining Coops and Sitwells minority group and hope that Taylor will show improvements this season. Giving Naysmith an extended contract for more than 1 year is a huge gamble, and I'm happy that Huddersfield take that gamble and not us.

Well Naysmith can easily be replaced I mean just look at how well we did with replacing him while he was injured....... hahahahaha

Who next to go?

The guy I sit next to E Mailed a few days ago and said that Naysmith was going to Terriers, I replied that I thought he had been drinking too much and to go sober up. He also said that Ward is off to Forest once they put in a reasonable offer! I darent reply now!

Dont know where you sit mate but from block F and previously G and H in the south stand we get a first rate view of our full backs play
He was often taken to the cleaners pace wise not only by wingers but with his lack of pace to get back when he had ventured up .
Mty mates favourite call was "for f*ck sake Naysmith get back and cover"
for your information Bromby was piss poor too at full back ,you could often see the whole of that end of the south stand rocking backwards and forwards with him as he rocked on his heels trying to decide when to attack the ball

Naysmith played what ?2 or 3 game last season no great loss in my book ,31 year old and crocked

Must watch a different game to me then swollen because I sit in the John Street Stand about 40 yards up from the Bramall lane goal line so I have an excellent view of our left backs when we are attacking the kop. Naysmith is not the quickest but his positional play is second to none and his is (was) far and away the best organiser of the back 4 at the club.

A massive loss expecially as the two left backs we have left at the club are abysmal.

Gaz I hope that is some kinda sick joke, Lappin is only slightly better than Stewart!

I do hope the younger lads i.e. Taylor and Evans come of age this season, they have to otherwise we really are staring down the barrel as it stands, who on earth are we going to sign next?!

Afraid not!! I agree, Lappin is kack, but if we're looking at Capaldi then nothing surprises me!!:cry2::cry2:

My big problem at left back is Stewart without a shadow of a doubt. Taylor - although he has wobbled at times - has shown signs that he could be a good option at left back. He does deliver a good cross and gets forward well. The issue with Taylor is defensively being caught out of position and not having the pace to recover. Kozluk was the same but he did have the pace to get back. I would have no issue with keeping Taylor and working at him (whether Blackwell and his staff can do anything with him is another question) but we do need to bring in a left back to start this season to give Taylor the time to improve.

I expected Naysmith would leave ever since the reprofiling began, and I thought wages would be the issue. It's only the destination that's a surprise.

Huddersfield might be a shock choice, but if they're going nuts with wages then that's not our concern. Given his age and recent injury I fully understand United's decision not to push the boat out for him. And I'm even less surprised that Naysmith doesn't feel any sense of debt to United. We paid his wages when he was injured because we had to. That's not a show of loyalty, it's a contractual arrangement.

My only concern here is our capacity to replace him. The cover we currently have in that position is as poor as any I've seen in my twenty years of watching.

Yeah, but, ARE they going nuts?? Or have we sunk to such a level we cannot compete with Huddersfield Town's wage structure??

I would be utterly befuddled if Huddersfield have a higher budget than we do. But given our budget is being slashed while theirs appears to be getting bigger, that suggests to me they are more prepared to gamble on his fitness.

It's purely speculation on my part but I reckon the weekly wages on offer wouldn't have been much different but the length of the contract would have swung his decision. For a 30-something who's just spent a year out I guess a 2 year offer is golden.

Would you have offered him more than a year?

personally, yes, I would.

Have people not considered the following points.

1) If there were CCC clubs in for him, Hudds also outbidded them
2) If CCC clubs were not interested in him then he can't be very highly rated by others.

this effectively means we cannot offer deals to the standard of hudderfield town. fantastic.

It might just mean that we were not prepared to pay silly money to a player past his 30th birthday and who has been out for almost a season with a significant injury. It might mean that Huddersfield have an idiot with a blank chequebook running the show. It might mean that Naysmith fancied a move, with a big fat signing on fee. It might mean his wife would rather live in Huddersfield. It might mean we don't know the full details of the matter.

I think it down to the extra years money, we paid Naysmith the best part of £1 Million plus a 250K bonus for less than 100 mins football last season. Did the board want to sign us up for another two years of the same when we have no idea if he would play out the contract? We have Callum McFadzean who might start to break into the team toward the back half of next season and we all know we don't have lots of money to throw about.
The money not spent on a 2 year contract might be better spent elsewhere, especially as personally I think Taylor is ok and might actually look steady enough with a settled back four.

Naysmith

Now I am confused. Why would Naysmith drop down a league and join Huddersfield?

Surely we represent a better option in every sense in terms of club stature, wages, not being Huddersfield, higher league etc
