Outgoing? Clarke

Swollen ankle and probably missing next game.

He signed in a 3 year deal so unless this is matched I cannot see him leaving (thankfully).
Cheers WB.

I'm not happy about him getting a three year deal at his age but he has been pretty useful off the bench and this is where he belongs because when he starts it just doesn't help how we play. Clarke will be useful if he's willing to accept this role.

Can someone tell me exactly how Clarke is better than Mcnulty!?
Please, because I really am baffled.

He isn't. People are looking at the goals he has scored in his career which isn't bad at this level but forgetting that Clarke is on a downward spiral due to his age and his performances for us. Handy to have on the bench as he's shown on a couple of occasions against tiring defences but that's it.

Also don't think anyone can say he's better, but he definitely isn't worse!

I'd be disappointed to see him leave before the end of this season.

He still has plenty to offer and if anything happened to Sharp we'd desperately need him.

We should only consider letting him leave if we sign another quality striker like Bogle or Ched. Otherwise it'd be madness.
I don't think he offers anything to our team...

I don't understand how some of you can rate him so low, sure he's not been at his best but a striker with a scoring rate like that will have a role to play. He'd get a game in almost every team in this league easily and he'd score goals. Is it cause he played for Wednesday and what is a bit of a dick when he's played us previously. Yet people rate Done with a far worse record.

I'd personally rather see Mcnumpty partner Sharp than Clarke in all fairness.
I understand what people think Clarke has to offer, the thing is, he isn't offering or providing anything at the moment.

I think he still has plenty to offer but only as an impact player from the bench.

But maybe he doesn't want that and wants to be starting games, if not here then perhaps he wants to look elsewhere himself.

And his "scoring record" for us is????

A lot better than Done's

Nah it's not Done has 13 in 68 or a ratio of one in 5.2 games which is pretty poor for a striker.

Clarke has 1 goal in 15 which is a ratio of 1 in 15.

Both are poor goals scored but Done offers more and United play better with Done in the side than with Clarke.

Nowt to do with him being ex Wednesday he's just been crap since we signed him, he's shown flashes when brought on as a sub but he's been absolutely useless in every game he's started.

You'll recall that some people thought Nigel Adkins couldn't fail because he had four previous promotions on his managerial CV.
Ultimately they proved to be of no fucking benefit to his performance at Sheffield United either

clarkes still gonna be handy for us if he stays but i see him and mcnulty only as impact subs at best sharpy and lavery are our best front 2 just now but personally i think we do need another striker in

I also think we could do with a striker, got a feeling though that it isn't a priority for Wilder. Time will tell.

He will have a role to play, from the bench but will he accept that as his role?

I judge his time with us as the barometer and nothing to do with them fuckers. He is picking injuries up now and is definitely on the way down as a player.

As I say useful from the bench if fit but i'm pretty sure we could get a fitter, younger and cheaper player than Clarke, just my opinion, LL.

Mcnulty has a decent record for us 14 goals in 22 starts. 10 in 19 starts at Pompy.

I think he's just let down by not having 1 key strength.

I.e Not a big striker to provide a target like Clarke
Not as good a finisher as Sharp
Doesn't cover the ground and tire the oppo like Done does
Doesn't take people on like Lavery.

Still hope Clarke might have a role to play this season too. His record in L1 suggests he does and he's obviously struggled with injuries massively so far.

Came on and helped change the games against Chesterfield and Oldham.
McNulty on the other hand, struggled to get in a Bradford side not exactly flush with goals and Strikers.
Bradford fans glad to see the back of him.
Clarke's record in this division is excellent.
McNulty's is poor.
McNulty will end up back in Scotland which will be his level.

Plus the fact that Adkins played done at left wing back for the majority of last season and for the first 8 games this season he played left midfield

Other than the key strength of scoring goals as you have clearly demonstrated! I didn't realise his record was so good - if that is correct it's unbelievable that some are obsessed with moving him on and saying his poor he is??

Think that is correct but he has probably another 20-25 sub appearances for us.

I'd suggest he certainly has something to offer in and around the squad and I suspect he would have got a fair few goals in this side - he didn't look bad pre season under wilder too.

He seems like the most direct replacement for Sharp but there is no shame in not being quite good enough to displace Billy.

Its a good point you raise - the team and way we play is so different to when he played previously - the amount of games we now dominate midfield and trying find gap or a finish around the oppositions box may suit him who knows! I suspect he may get a few late appearances as a sub unless we get a few injuries - I think he would do better than most expect in this team along side Done or Lavery if Sharp got injured.

So that's two good matches against two of the worst teams in League One. What about the other matches where he's made little or no impact?

As for Clarke's record, he's had more clubs than Tiger Woods with those mostly being loans or free transfers, what does that tell you?

Also Clarke's goal scoring record is worse that McNulty's. With Clarke being nearly 32, I'd rather keep McNulty personally.

He's a useful guy to have on the bench but if he's not happy playing there we should definitely try and get rid. He's on a long contract so not going to get better.

I think we'll leave it there.
