Is this one of the greatest goals ever scored? Clarke takes the ball from the kick off, heads straight at the opposition goal, dribbling past half of the team and leaving defenders in his wake, before rounding the keeper and rolling the ball into an empty net. If Messi had scored a goal like this... etc...etc...

How do you know this?

I how do I know we havent sold them yet
no ones reported theyve gone
but its irrelevant
the board have sanctioned bringing in 7 and up to now we havent sold anyone

are you proposing we slag the club off for something they havent done yet
why do some fans seem loathe to offer the slightest nod to the effort made
it baffles me

If we sold the players first thered be dozens on saying how were beingmistreated
just for once
cant we say the squads come first , weve got in replacements before any sales

where are all those who rapidly quote how little the board will invest to get us up
this season we have a manager who seems to have a plan
compared to Adkins its night and day , in terms of team building
and the boards stomped up the money BEFORE any out goings , against perceived wisdom
how come they arent jumping on the forum with just a little bit of acknowledgement
just to break the habits of the the past few years, where they are on in a nano second if its anything remotely negative
can we hear a bit of enthusiasm for the cause
Here we fucking go again

the clubs brought in 7 players and wheres all the nice to see a change posts

but hey why break the habits of the last 5 years

praise the club you say , god forbid
I dont come in here for that sort of thing

And what if they sell our most saleable asset again ?
For the umpteenth transfer window running ?
And what if they didn't sign seven players ?
We would be looking at relegation

Only a handful of posters were 'moaning ' and rightly so that up until a month before the start of the season we were still short in key areas of the team and we still are

Have you forgotten how shit we were last season ?
I bet you have your address tattooed on your wrist

do we need Adams or is it not good business in league one to sell at a good profit
was he magnificent last season , or just ok

have you ever run a business

why did you expect it to get worse
why is there no hope
why automatically think wilder would fail
looking at relegation

can you hear yourself
not one piece of positivity
we got rid of Adkins who was a complete failure
surely it must get better if wed signed gary megson as manager

but no
you only see the worst possible outcome

again so far brought in 7
got rid of the crap
not took low fees for raw , very raw talent
things look better
well for those prepared to look

What the fuck are you talking about ?

I haven't posted anything negative,my last post was simply to counteract your incendiary provocative wind up

I asked you questions but I realise that trying to reason or argue with you is a complete waste of time as you forget what it is your rowing about

just the clubs making some applaudable moves
thats all

Trivia!

* The new Blades striker shares his birthday with TV host Holly Willoughby

Excellent signing. Who could we have got for the same money. He has a very good goal ratio at this level and fits the profile we were after, his age has fuck all to do with our aim of promotion. Same people moaning about the signing who were crying about missing out on Alex bastard Revell ffs.

Whilst I'm happy with his signing there are a few concerning factors.

3 year contract. I thought we weren't signing people on 'stupid contracts' anymore? No doubt he's on wages which means he wont leave to most League 1 clubs so we'll be stuck with a striker we wont play if we by some chance go up. If his form slips or legs go we'll have a 30 plus year old on our hands on good wages.

I also thought we were going to be playing one upfront and the 'target man' was going to be a back-up. I can't see Clarke signing to sit on the bench, and when he doesn't play he loses interest.

We'll see when the season starts I guess.

He will score goals but then will go missing at times. Ex Sheff Wed player to.

It's L1. There's always negatives whoever we sign.

The first two aren't really a concern because if we go up then his wages won't seem as high, we'll have more money, and we won't be paying him so much that another L1 club vying for promotion next season wouldn't want him.

And 'if his legs go' is slightly more likely than signing a 26 year old who then gets a serious injury. Shit happens.

Apparently he likes to play just behind the main striker so perfect for Billy.

Why should anyone praise Kevin McCabe for paying 100,000 for a player ?

Why should you be posting on here expecting people to be praising Kevin McCabe?

It's Leon Clarke for 100 ,000 grand not Paul Pogba

Are your expectations so low that us actually signing players for undisclosed fees is enough to wipe out a decade of utter shit

You need to hold your tongue mate if check Adams goes ( and I couldn't give a shit if he does ) your going to look pretty stupid aren't you
Praising the club for something they haven't done

It was the 3 year contract that worried me, that and being an ex-Pig and full weight twat, but he had a 3 year contract at Bury!
Plus he is that elusive goal scorer we've craved!

Wilder is setting us up to play a certain way, Clarke is a player of a type we've needed for a long time and his age only means we can afford him in league one, because if he was 25 he wouldn't be anywhere near affordable for a league one club, and he couldn't come anyway cause he'd have much better offers, if he makes the difference to our forward line by actually helping sharp and chipping in then who will complain?...

We wouldn't have signed shipperly based on the negatives around this deal..

Adams to be sold... Yawwwwnnn.... We never saw that coming... Anybody still bothered or surprised......we sell to keep the club running, we do it every summer, at least we've got a decent replacement this season, unlike last seasons donkey Woolford..

Not being funny, but when he was 26, he signed for Swindon in League 2, so I'm struggling to see that as a viable argument!

Good signing. Always impressed me wherever he's been and I think we'll seem bang some in for us, yeah he's getting on, but reckon you need a mix in a team I don't get the broken old carthorse vibe from which Hammond stank of. Although I admit it's a concern that next year our strike force could have a combined age of 61.

Could we have not paid him the same amount of money in 2 years as we are for the 3 years? Meaning we don't have to worry either way after 2 years what division we are in as it's clear as day that he doesn't cut it in the Championship?

I'll only be happy with this signing if we bring the creative players in so that those who play up top can score the goals required for promotion. Our midfield as it stands still isn't good enough, this is cold hard reality and I hope CW gets the tools to sort this aspect of our game out.

Time will tell but we are leaving it late to put the finishing touches to an aspect of our game in which I personally thought was our worst last year, the midfield. We hardly scored from it, we hardly assisted from it, we had no bite in it, we had no quality going forward from it and ultimately we had nothing most of the season from it.

I know CW has gone some way to sorting it but we are still short and I really hope this Clarke signing doesn't hinder us getting another midfielder at least, when we already had good attacking options at the club already.

Welcome to the lane Leon. At least he can't score against us now.

Why would we do that? Better to pay him less per year over three years and have the option of transferring him at some point to save the remaining wages.

This is Sheffield United. He will score at least 2 own goals.

Why are people worried about what's goin to happen in 3 yrs time it's what happens now that's important we needed some physicality up top we now have that with an added goal threat as a bonus a lot can happen in 3 yrs Leon might be long gone by then as we move up the leagues or he could still be trying to help us out of this hell hole division. He's what we needed right now and we've got him,the 3 yr deal was probably the carrot needed to seal the deal

90% of what we worry about never happens (usually promotions and play off wins)

I was merely playing devils advocate with the people saying we only got him because we could offer him a 3 year deal.

Now he has a 3 year deal he will be relaxed and in a comfort zone as opposed to a 2 year one, all this meaning he'd try harder for us to earn the third year. Again only playing devils advocate but we shouldn't really be paying anyone for 3 years in this league anyway around that age, and what sort of fee would a 33 year old command? Probably not get one and end up having to pay him off. Does that remind you of anyone, BB? :)

I agree, 3 years is a very generous deal for a 31year old but perhaps that's what made up his mind to come. If he scores the goals that get us out of league one, it's money well spent, even if we end up paying him off.

Incidentally, I've just watched the interview with him on Bladesplayer, is it possible to get Jet lag between Bury and Sheffield? ;)

Not worried about it, just questioning why you'd do it Bulmer. It seems to be not good business sense and someone we'll end up having to pay off eventually, we shouldn't set ourselves up for things like this, we have had to do it a few times over recent seasons. Learn from your mistakes should be a Blades motto.

People are talking like he had to sign for us he already had a 2 yr deal at bury and was comfortable he felt wanted he didn't have to come here,my guess is it's the length of contract that sealed the deal. If he helps us get promotion would anyone begrudge him his wages if he wasn't in the team (I suppose they would cos people begrudge others everything they haven't got) for me it would have been worth the price for finally getting us out of this pub league

Some people just aren't happy unless they have somat to moan about it seems

Not a personal dig btw just some aren't happy unless they are finding fault

I've never disputed he can get goals in this league if given the service, the point I've disputed is that at the moment I don't think we have enough quality in the team to give him the service. Another CM and a LM will help us big time next season, we need these players in.

No problem, see my post above. I'm not moaning for moanings sake, I have already said somewhere else that I'll be happy with the signing so long as we get players to provide said signing.

I am very happy with our business so far and for that reason alone I don't want us to fuck up the chance of finishing our good business off with the 3 possibly 4 players required to get us promoted, I can almost smell it. :)
