Chris Wilder signing

I'm sure Wilder knew about this from the begining and must have been happy to accept it,not so sure it is his choice, more likely a 'fait accompli'.

Doesn't surprise me at all.

Wilder loves these types of players.
Evans is currently a £100K standard player BUT the important factor is that Ched has shown he is a capable of being a £5 million plus player. Anyone who watched him in that season where he ripped up league 1 turning us into virtually a 1 man team can't have failed to be impressed by CE.

Leon Clarke is another one, everyone in the game says Leon is a talented player who for some reason has underperformed in his career. However Wilder in the last few games seems to be finally getting Leon to play near his best.

Wilder and Knill will be really exciting about having the chance to work on Ched to re launch his career.
I'm sure they'll be confident they can get him to perform well at Championship level.

Totally agree.
I also doubt that Wilder actively chased or wanted this signing.

I reckon it will have been more of
"Chris we've got a great chance of re-signing Ched Evans, how do you feel about that?"

"I'll have a word with the lads but I can't see any problems. There won't be any favours though. He'll be given a chance but will only play on merit but yes, he's a talented boy so of course I'm interested"

As Warnock once said, you can never have too many forwards.

You can if they're all League 1 level and can't be quality in the Championship. I'm not saying that ours aren't going to be able to cut it in the Championship, but it would be nice to maybe add another proven scorer at that level.

True, totally agree, it is a slight concern.

Most of our strikers are all mainly league 1 standard with the POTENTIAL to be good Championship standard.

Sharp is the only one that has gauranteed Championship class but he needs setting up otherwise he'll struggle next season.
Clarke and particularly Evans have the potential to be high Championship class, both could be better than Sharp but can Wilder get the best out of them where other managers have struggled. He probably thinks he can get players to perform at their best as he's proved he can so far.
Lavery also has Championship potential and more importantly has pace.

I can understand why the club are going for potential because a tried and tested Championship striker would cost over £3 million. Also with Ched the risk is lower regards potential because we've seen how good he can be, although that was in league 1 where he was voted best player.

I thought Lee Gregory was an option for £1 million at the end of this season? He would appear to be the best back up player style wise for Billy, all the others to me are a second striker to play alongside him.

Not another ched thread, can we have an holding area for ched related material

It was the only concern I had

Whether Wilder wanted him or whether it was McCabes meddling

He might be a bit rusty but if Wilder can get him back to his best, what a player we could have for next to nothing

As far as United are concerned I just hope the fans give him a massive cheer to help the rehabilitation of his mind instead of a mixed reception that could leave him feeling a bit wary from the off

After being acquitted he deserves a chance and shouldn't be continually judged

This interview was from November '16. I'd rather hear what he has to say about it now we're confirmed to be playing Championship football next season.

Would have thought it's inevitable that both will apply (cheering/mixed reception).

I'm starting a new thread, although I didn't really want to, because I've a feeling it'll get lost in the other Ched threads.

Sounds to me like this will be a Chris Wilder signing. If it is then I recon everyone should wind their necks in and support him

Agree ,why don't people accept the signing as anew addition to the squad. Just stop complaining, enjoy the position we are in at the moment and look forward to next season. Come on lads SMILE,
