What is there to not be confident about at the minuteo_O

Making the play-offs. Everything not only has to go right for us, but it has to go wrong for four or five other sides. Not rocket science, is it?

If we win our games in hand and match those other teams results then we're above everybody except posh.

Not rocket science is it?

playoffs are well truly their for blades.

I look at the Rotherham game days before semi I think an under strength side won't be good enough to beat them

I cant understand whats making people think we are not good enough to beat anybody at the minute what goes off in their head
Fcuk knows how they are going to go off when or if we lose a couple

stop talking about the playoffs!! we take each game as it comes.......................

Personally don't think we'll lose 1 in league might just draw to many

Well I personally don't think we can make the Play-Offs but I also thought we would be still struggling in the League.

Reading their chairman Twitter lately though just shows how much pressure we and others around us are putting on Peterborough.

Who knows? As Nigel Clough and Gavlar are saying "Take each game as it comes."

Peterborough are 3 points ahead of MK Dons with a game in hand. Still in pole position for me.

I don't think form means much, unless it's a significant change.
Last 8 games MK Dons may have 16 points, but if you look at the last 6 they only have 10 points.
Last 10 games, they still only have 16 points.
The "last 8" marker just happens to suit where they have amassed points and misses matches they didn't win.

Out of their 5 wins from 10 games, they've only beat Oldham (18th) twice, Notts County (24th) and Swindon (1 win in 10) and Walsall (1 win in 10) who are both in freefall. In that time they lost 3-0 to Carlisle and 1-0 at home to Tranmere. None of that suggests they're a particularly good side, more that they've benefitted from a run of games against poor teams and teams plummetting down the league.

If we beat Preston on Monday, then I may believe.
Preston then Wolves, plus not then slipping up on the banana skin that could be Crawley and then Brenford, Leyton Orient, and Rotherham.

No point getting excited about anything until those games are behind us and we've taken 14 points.
Posh's goal difference is also irrelevant, because if we catch them ours will be superior simply down to the additional games we will have won, and they will have lost.

Judging by the apparent tiredness of the whole team last night my expectations are slightly diminished re the play-offs.
It was also apparent that the crowd found it difficult to motivate itself to generate an atmosphere. I found myself listening to a silence backed by a hum of conversation and I assume everyone was discussing the same as those around me, the cup and Wembley.
It must have been tough for the players to focus on the job in hand on the pitch I.e. Beating a poor Carlisle side, but all credit they did it, just think when we meet the likes of Preston and Wolves Nigel is going to have to work some magic!

We had tired legs but still did a job on them, we were unlucky not to be 2 or 3 up in the first half. I think the pressure on Sunday will have taken a lot out of them mentally. The line up spoke volumes to me, our Nigel is going for it make no mistake!

9 points to pass them.
12 games.
Thats 0.75 points better than them required.

Currently averaging 1.3 points more than Peterborough, based on last 8 games.

Job done.

Fergie is getting absolute pelters down here in Peterborough I can tell you. At the start of the season he divided fans but now he has nobody backing him at all. There is no confidence, no chances being created and the defence is in tatters (actually sounds like us when Weir was in charger). I can't see them winning more than 1 or 2 of their remaining 11 games. They also have the added distraction of the JPT Final in 2 weeks which I suspect is all that's keeping Little Lord Fergie in a job right now.

Haha, well done boys, I can count. I also know from experience that games in hand are not the same as points on the board. One of them is Brentford, a very good side. In fact, as already mentioned in this thread, we still have to play all of the top 5. So that's why I am not optimistic that we will make the play-offs.

I'm very optimistic about our side at the moment, we're playing brilliantly or, when we're not (like last night) we're still grinding out wins.

I'm not confident that we'll make the play-offs though because even if we continue to play well it's a huge ask. We can't afford to have any games that we should win and don't and we're relying on others to collapse, too.

Without wishing to put a spike in anyone's dreams of promotion this season, the one outstanding thing that crosses my mind is the lack of preparation this might present us with if we should find ourselves in the position of contemplating promotion?

I can imagine that Cloughie has already made carefully laid plans for the players he wishes to bring in during the summer, some who would be sterling players at this level, and one or two with an eye on the next few years service to SUFC. I suspect the plan goes something like this, get in player X, Y, and Z, integrate them into how he wants them to play as we gear up for a promotion challenge next season, and in doing so he will be well on his way to have begun the footballing revolution that he sees as vital to us moving forward. If we are presented with promotion this season I wonder if this could have the effect of scuppering those plans as we forced to react to something that wasn't on the cards, at least not for a year or two?

Just a thought, so please don't interpret what I've written as me being anything but supportive of United and it's wonderful manager. If success comes earlier than expected then I'm sure we'll deal with it in much the same way as we've confronted every other hurdle we've had to jump this season. Exciting times folks, and the fact that I feel able to discuss promotion is an indicator of just how far we've travelled this season. UTB

I know it sounds pessimistic, but i don't think it's very likely just cos of the games we have coming up.
7 more games in just over 3 weeks, including games against all the top 5, whilst having one eye on an fa cup semi.
If we were Man City we'd be struggling to get through that lot. Being realistic if we get through it all in the same position as we are now it will be quite an achievement. If we're still 8 points behind with a game in hand when it gets down to the last 4 games, maybe it could happen. Win the last 4 and who knows.

The main thing is we're almost safe now whatever happens. Been an amazing run, if we had taken even 2 points per game (still an incredible return for a struggling team) over the last 7 wins we'd still be in trouble. Would be only 4 points above the drop zone with all these tough matches coming up. Just be thankful for what has happened and don't get disappointed if we fade away in the face of a brutal run of fixtures.

Brentford/Leyton Orient fans would be gutted if us Blades came through at the end got in the play offs and beat them! Chasing promotion all season, then a team who thought they was going into League Two at the start of FEB knock them out! Would be great though wouldn't it!

If we got to the play off final would Wembley tickets be in as much demand as the FA cup Semi? Many people I know have sworn never to return to Wembley in a play off final.

Or am I getting to ahead of myself?

I know he's getting stick, but that's cos expectation is so high there. 1 or 2 wins from their remaining 11 games? Really?
Putting it into context, despite all the doom and gloom surrounding them right now, out of their last 10 league matches they've won 5 of em. No chances being created? They beat Crewe 4-2 last saturday. They're obviously struggling, but i think you're exaggerating their demise a little bit? ;)
