The response was justified by your post because it is all that it merited. Every single Blade I know is pissed off when we lose or play embarrassingly, regardless of their view on Wilder. Anybody even attempting to sugarcoat what we witnessed today must have very low standards and zero self respect. I feel sorry for those who travelled.

We’ll all turn up on Tuesday night and get behind the team. But what is the point of being on here and trying to dress today’s abomination up as something that it isn’t?
I’m not sure anyone is trying to sugar coat this. Looking for positives isn’t the same as denying that a bad performance actually happened.

Picking up a point when we’ve played badly is a positive, of course anyone with a pair of functioning eyes could see that we very much deserved to lose today, but we didn’t.

I also think that away results are always a little more difficult to come by and poorer performances can be slightly more easily excused if you come away with something.

Play like we did today against Bolton on Tuesday and yeah I think there’s going to be a lot more criticism.

Was out today and purposefully didnt check the scores.

Reading some if the comments I had to check again, thought we'd fuckin lost .

However it was achieved , its a decent away point . Roll on Tuesday .

UTB
I think we all take the point as decent.

It’s the fact that playing like that is not a sustainable way to get results.

We looked like relegation fodder, surprised to be in front, and clinging on for dear life.

I’m also not as convinced as others that we’ll suddenly be more proactive at home. But I’ll happily be proved wrong.

i was impressed with cardiff but boy did we make it easy for them peck was awful and rothwell no better philips and riedewald have to come in for bolton but were so slow in possesion at least 3 more need to come in before deadline day

There’s no desperation. It is what it is. It used to be just his bizarre substitutions and inability to change before 70 minutes that we could moan about but we had the players to get away with it. He’s lost it. He mismanaged the end of the playoff season badly by selection and formation. When he came back he presided over some of the most coma inducing negative football aside from one purple patch we’ve seen since Clough and Adkins. Now it’s even worse. At least we could all discern some sort of system and plan last season however some of us hated it. This season he just seems to send out a team and hope it plays well. It doesn’t even look coached to any degree. Add to that his insistence on signing the slowest midfield in the division and we’re looking again at a no hope season. It needn’t be this shit. But it is, and he’s managing it.
OK.. I get that viewpoint and some of the reasoning behind it. Personally I disagree re: the playoffs.. but that’s been discussed to death.
If we had owners who were obviously rich enough and capable enough to fund a progressive, ambitious club then yes, I’d probably agree that we should explore all managerial options. Unfortunately, I am hugely suspicious of the motives of our owners and it’s very clear that Wilder is massively constrained in his attempts to re-build. For that reason, I thoroughly understand that he is looking to make us solid and difficult to beat as a priority. I trust him to look after our interests when the owners will focus only on their own pockets.
So .. yep, I’d love to see us play some more expansive, attacking stuff but I’m not going to rush to judge and call for Wilders head at a time when I’m fearing for the clubs future… and we’re still unbeaten this season so I’ll put this one very poor performance in context.
I totally get the frustration.. for me it’s just unfair to steam in on Wilder without taking all factors into consideration.
As others have said … he’s not responsible for somebody like Peck suddenly having a nightmare performance.
Let’s see how the first couple of months pan out at least.

That was a very fortunate draw though, against a newly promoted team. Cardiff absolutely destroyed us, Cooper saved that game from being an enormous win for them. I had hoped we'd come good, but that was a relegation performance. Fortunately I think there are at least 3 teams even worse than us. Apart from our defense, we looked as bad as when Selles was in charge.

Well measured response. I’m not calling for his head. I just want him to give it a wobble.

Did anyone think they should have had a penalty midway through the second half, RND fouling/pulling back their player? Soon as it happened I thought stone waller, never did see a replay so could just be me and there was nothing in it.

It looks as though wilder doesnt know his preferred line up, formation or tactics from the games we have had so far, which is a worry since hes had an entire pre season to set something in stone.

Weve set up and played differently in each game ive seen. Today was a bizarre throw back and then the subs he made and what we ended with was even more baffling, just seemed to keep putting more midfielders on to stop them playing through, he had no answers.

It was a very strange game. First 10/15 (goal apart) we looked direct and quick bamford and cannon winning duels and some nice passes. Then we went 2-1 and our midfielders just stopped running and all went to pot.

The partnership in the middle of the park is again our biggest issue, even more so when O'Hare and Donovan are on either side. Peck has been on a poor run of form but at least he looks for the ball.
Rothwell made 13 passes in the first half, why? Cardiff had more of the ball. But the bigger issue is when we have the ball he generally hides.

Philips will be our main man in midfield, but we need either Riedewald, Arblaster to step up or Peck to come back into form. We have enough problems in other parts of the pitch to solve without having a non competitive central midfielder.

I’m also not calling for his head (despite what a handful of the hard of thinking seem to think). Now is absolutely not the right time for that. But criticism is certainly allowed and can be justified (again, despite what a handful of the hard of thinking seem to think). Let’s not forget that despite the loss of parachute payments we still have one of the higher budgets in the division, so I am amazed that people thrash around to make excuses to the extent that some do for the sort of mediocrity we witnessed today.

This reminds me of the start of the last Prem season, where the performances, possession and underlying numbers were shocking but the actual results and score lines weren’t that bad.

In both cases we’re divided into two camps. One side saying at least we’re keeping things tight, it’s a base to build on, and if we can improve offensively a bit (how?) we’ll grind out some wins.

The other side were saying, we’ve been getting lucky and ultimately with performances/style this bad and no ability to keep possession, you can’t build a platform and the results are going to catch up with performances and we’ll get battered.

I hope the first camp is right this season but I think there’s a chance the pessimistic case comes true and we’re in a real relegation fight. We haven’t really played any of the decent teams yet and once we do I fear they could put us in a real spiral.

My theory with Wilder is that someting happened with coaching in the last decade, where young coaches have moved on a level and he just hasn’t adapted and been left behind.

I don’t know exactly what but he just doesn’t seem to be able to set up a side to compete against any well-coached opponent with similar resources to him. Whenever he plays anyone decent, he doesn’t just get outplayed but we get these 20-30% possession games where it’s like a different sport. His teams can’t hold possession or play through a press at all, even when they’ve proven good footballers elsewhere.

This was the case against Burnley and Leeds in the 92 point season (the only teams with similar resources) and then against the entire top 6 last season. The number of well coached teams keeps increasing and our financial advantage has gone. Feels like it’s only going one way

There’s just something he’s missing in the coaching and his reaction seems to be to retreat from ‘tactics’ completely into passion, character etc. I also think there’s something where he doesn’t know how to coach modern pressing systems so his teams waste energy pressing ineffectively and that makes our fitness problems look worse

This! This is exactly the point, the game has moved on, Wilder hasn’t, yesterdays tactics don’t work against the tactics of tomorrow,

Agreed.
Two home wins this week turns it into a very good start but both games will be tough in different ways. Norwich will be full of confidence.
Feels like a huge week very early in the season.
Brooks , Brooks will tear us apaaart ,
I bet

I'm all for horses for courses and managers adapting their style based on the players at their disposal, but i can't help but think Wilder has lost the courage he had first time around.

His approach was refreshing and a joy to watch. Now he's making a squad of players whove largely played their entire careers at this level and above, look like they're out of their depth at times.

Thoughtful response Nick 🙂
Read back many of the comments and you’ll see exactly what I mean. There’s an absolute desperation to pile in on Wilder.
Obviously it’s a thoroughly poor performance… but it’s a point at a tough venue and it’s early in the season.
That was a winnable game though and we're desperate for points before we faced the big boys.
Wilder's negative nonsensical selection & tactics literally threw away any chance of beating a beatable team.
Idiot manager now , lost the plot.

Or , to put it more simply , he's lost the feckin plot.
Where's the front foot football ?

Did anyone after last season expect this season to be full of swashbuckling attacking football .
Did anyone knowing we were losing parachute money expect us to have lots of talented new signings.

Some clearly did .

Back on planet earth the team we have are doing their best , some days it'll be crap , some it'll be average and some great .

3 games in FFS .

Anyway enjoy your evenings all ..

You’re first choice right back is out injured, do you

a) play a 33 year old right back with over 200 games at premier league level.
b) play your utility midfielder in a position he’s familiar with after you’ve gone on record as saying it’s a big season for him
c) use your captain, whose experienced at championship level and has experience playing at right back for a top six premier league team
d) play a 21 year old kid whose never played full back before with another 19 year old in front to give him no cover, with a midfield pairing that makes glaciers look dynamic.

Well done if you picked D, you’re a colossal idiot but you’ve got a job for life thumping a badge.

It’s a promoted league one team we’ve beaten the last 3 times we’ve played them at their place. We were in front.

If this is the level we’re willing to accept then we’re in for a relegation scrap and we’ll be in league one before long.

You can really start to see which fans have seen this before and which ones really got into United around 2016.

This! The right was a disaster after what looked so promising with Seriki and Donovan in the previous games. Donovan was starved of any service with Baptiste out of his depth.

Granted, what happens if people decide its unacceptable??.. fuck all but moan about it thats what..

Its not as good as its sometimes been and better than its sometimes been and as ever theres bugger all we can change it.

That's what loads of our posters are like .
Just can't stop whining about stuff. If there isn't anything they'll find something to complain about.

I'm off to the Spurs forum now to see how their fans have reacted to losing 0.2 having spent £320 million this summer.
On 0 points and -5 GD.
