Ta for the info WORKSOPBLADE thought he looked really slow against Betis, only other game i have seen him play was the Barnet cup game and he were'nt v/good in that he were'nt on his own in that game tho.

Can we see any of those players ^^^ being used in the Prem fully.
Played well today, chalk and cheese compared to the Barnet game.

we played some nice football at times , our squad is still too thin on quality, Our best 11 will be decent of course, but beyond that we are still thin on the ground with quality back up.

Just back. We looked ok in patches but tonight we were mostly feeling our way back into things. Didsy certainly made an impression plus Lunny and the two Freeman’s were decent before Robinson’s superb 15 minute cameo.
Nothing to get worried about, we just need to shake off the rustiness. 1991 in attendance which must surely have been of two thirds Blades minimum. Couple of pints in the Beech beforehand and it finally feels like the seasons back upon us.
Roll on Northampton :p

We weren’t great but at the end of the day it’s a pre season friendly. When we get closer to the start of season we will see our preferred 11 and that is when we can get a real gauge of where we are.

The position Robinson played and the areas he popped up in also showed how he can be used as a striker.

I look forward to seeing him on the pitch with McGoldrick/Duffy/Freeman.

Adding his pace and quality to what we have makes us so much more of a threat.
His running at defenders was a breath of fresh air and something we’ve needed to add to our game for a while...... not that we’ve suffered without it

Some positive play from Robinson, as others have said, he looks very classy. Lundstram was involved with everything when he came on.

Billy proving again that you don't need to be 7 feet tall to be the best header on the field.

We were a bit rusty in the final third and Burton did a good job of closing us down at times.

Their first goal should never had happened. Not only did the Ref and the Lino miss a handball in our box, a few minutes later Baldock intercepted a pass and tackled one of their players in our box, the ball came off their player, right in front of the Blades away end. The Blades fans duly clapped Baldock for a good job well done, when the Ref pointed to the corner?

The ball was delivered in well, but who ever was supposed to be marking Brayford was not doing the job, and he glanced one in at close range. Moore had no chance really.

The pattern of the game was pretty much this; Blades non-stop pressure for long periods, but coming to nothing, stray pass to them and they went for it, but we somehow got the ball back. Moore made two or three excellent saves.

The final goal was at the other end of the pitch, but it looked like a "worldie", with their player going one way, then the other, and then unleashing an unstoppable shot. Most of the Blades around me actually applauded it, because it was that good.

Tonight didn't tell us much, except that Robinson looks like a very capable addition.

Bryan looks in better shape than he was previously and did quite well but I certainly can't use that game to suggest he can be of any use at PL level.

Lundstram has quickened his game up in every way. But why the hell has he still got number 7?

Seen the goals on SSN, not to attract the attention of RavBlade (who is actually Simon Moore I think, or his Mum because all his posts have been about Simon Moore) but I think he was a bit iffy with the first unless it's just the angle not making something clear.

Looks like he gets to it in the middle of the net but it goes in anyway. Was from close range though to be fair.

Second was a worldie with a hint of not getting to the man/ giving too much room.

FFS i thought friendlies were all about getting players playing games in a competitive environment, against sides which will test you, integrating new players, trying different systems etc...

But reading this thread it seems that it counts as a league game and we've dropped 3 points!

Crazy, isn't it?

I fear what it'll be like when we lose a few on the bounce in December/January.

Yeah, the majority will, but together, not in two halves.

Need to play our backline, and a midfield with Norwood, Fleck, and a 10 and two strikers we're keeping.

Can make subs, but let's get the team together first instead of sticking Bryan, Stearman, Lundstram and Clarke in it. The first 3 will no doubt have a part to play though.
Bryan is an interesting one though. Last season was a write off for him, but he's a highly rated (Man City's buy back clause gives a clue to their thinking) 22 year old left sided defensive player, who Wilder clearly rates or he'd have been binned off already. He could easily feel like a great bit of business in 12 months.

Clark is with us till we buy a replacement and it looks like Lundstram is going to be involved. I've already made up my mind about Stearman but we need to buy a replacement before he can drop down the list to back up squad player rather than the bench

I don't know if you've ever noticed; but at least half of our support are a bunch of nervous, knee-jerk reactionaries who descend into panicked hysteria at the first sign of trouble!

Cast your mind back to the home draw with Millwall, that is what it will be like.

That's one thing i fear about this season. The last 3 seasons we had considerable success and its been a fantastic journey.

Unfortunately sone fans get use to it and expect it to continue.

We need to realise this season is gonna be tough, and there's going to be some downers.

Wise words my friends

It does seem that the hysteria is worst than ever this summer though...

It's only the 4th game we've lost of 23 played in 2019. Going to be hard to adjust.

Getting back to this thing about Moore and goalkeepers in general. I don't buy the suggestion that you can be a great league 1 or championship goalie but not so in the premier league. A great keeper is a great keeper at any level. The ball doesn't go in a different direction or at a different speed just because it's a different division. If you've got the speed of reaction and the handling skills at league 1 then you've got them in the premier league. Nerves affecting confidence is the only thing I can see having any bearing on stepping up to the highest level, not ability. For what it's worth I think Moore gets a rough ride from blades supporters as an easy scapegoat.

Can I just be the first to say:-

Wilder has taken us as far as he can.
Wilder is out of his depth at this level.
We need to get an experienced PL manager in. Maybe someone like Pardew.
Errrr..... It's going to be a bloody tough season.⚓📮😉

Sorry, but I beat you to it in my post 163

Don't think it's worth having a hidden agenda over Simon Moore anyway.

He's not a Premier League keeper, I don't hide that opinion, and I don't think I'm alone in having it.

Nice bloke though and great in league one.
Your agenda isnt hidden though, its clearly overt. Fair critisism of a player when hes had a stinker is fair enough, but to come on and say "was Moore at fault" (in other words if he could have got near any of the goals I'm going to go on the forum openly slaughter him, and that say I told you so) makes you a bit of a front bottom in my book.

For the record Chris Wilder thinks he's more than adequate. Think I'll trust his judgement rather than that of the pitchfork brigade.

I dont think there is any problem with saying what you see , there was some positives out of last night, but also some negatives too. It was only a friendly of course. And our best 11 together on the pitch would have won. But it is quite evident will need more quality players bringing in. Other wise it is going to be a even more difficult season than we think.
