Hello from a Bristol City fan in peace.

Ahead of our forthcoming game I’m putting together the opening post for our forum’s (One Team in Bristol, https://www.otib.co.uk/?_fromLogin=1) match thread, which will be posted the day before the match.

I would like to include some perspectives from your fans so if anybody would like to share info please do, anything would be appreciated, fans thoughts about the game, players who have represented both clubs, tales from when we’ve met previously, a fans view on your season, etc, etc.

Look forward to receiving info and to a great game.

Also, up the gas 💪🏻⚔️

Lived in Bristol for 18 months and honestly couldn't stand your lot! Should call it only one club in Bedminster.

Smashed my back on the concourse at Ashton Gate too, generally never had good associations with the club south of the river.

Ex missus was one of yours though, so I'm definitely biased 😂

I think that after us, the cider-swilling worzels are the biggest English club never to have played in Europe.

You'll get very few serious responses from this lot - they're all just a bunch of comedians.

Truth be known, I tend to be the only serious one on here....

Both tomorrow ( Heckys return ) & Tues will be two tough tests , City are a good run of form of recent & there wasn’t much in the game down at their place One’s late header , they are definitely one of the play off contenders .
Think it’ll be an open game if I’m honest . Hope Seriki is back for these at full back , we need 2 good results from tmmw & Tues . ⚔️

Stick with the idea. A bloke on here Roygbiv had this idea, and now lives the life of a millionaire, posting weekly View From the opposition, from his Carribbean mansion.

I just can't help but remember that 3-3 draw at The Lane in 1970? when anyone mentions Bristol City.
We've had some good tussles with them over the years.

Thanks jerseybean

It's generally a tough game whenever we play you lads and I think this will be no exception.

From recent encounters, the one that still sticks in my craw is when Aden Flint scored that really late winner at the Lane (Dec 2017?) after we had pretty much battered you for most of the game. I think Mark Duffy hit the post twice and your keeper put in an absolute worldy of a performance, and we just couldn't find the 2nd goal to finish you off.

Suffice to say, this is why the late winner we got at your place earlier this season was immensely satisfying. But I have no doubt you will want to return the favour on Tuesday :)

Safe journey to you all.

I remember playing Bristol City in the late 80’s for the play-off game.
We lost 2-0 at Ashton Gate. One of our fans had a big box of about 500 cardboard red coloured KFC hats….that he was handing out to fans.
Also remember quite a lot of trouble in the park after the match.
The 2nd leg was a night match at Bramall Lane and I think we drew 1-1 with ex Wednesday player Carl Shutt scoring for your boys.
Think that might gave been our first play-of failure….the 1st of many.

Thought our post war record was bad……never playing in a single cup final and never playing in Europe
But Bristol City are even bigger under achievers….haven’t even got close to a final or Europe….at least we’ve been in loads of cup semi finals.
It’s a disgrace how football seems to have bypassed the city of Bristol….with both Bristol clubs not doing anything significant.

Last away game of the season, late 1980's I think. Scorching hot day but a drab 0-0 draw, only livened up by some reyt feytin' afterwards. Coach broke down somewhere near Gloucester on the way back and it limped to a nearby service station to await a replacement. Cue a massive game of football on the grass at the services, long into the evening until the replacement transport arrived. Must have been 20-a-side, at least.

Stattos will be able to answer this, as I'm far too lazy to do my own research, but it was a game with something on the line, as it was back in the days when only one sub was allowed, and the manager (Bassett?) picked a goalkeeper as sub, which was unheard of then. Can't have been the promotion season, as the last game then was Leicester away. Stattos?

We lost 1-0 in the first leg in 1988. The 2-0 match was the last game of the 1988-89 season

Last game of the 1988-89 promotion season, lost 2-0. Dave Bassett decided that our 2nd sub should be Graham Benstead because we were 3 points ahead of Port Vale but our GD were about 12 goals better so he wanted to make sure we dont concede too many goals if Simon Tracey got injured during the match.

Hi jerseybean

Would be more concerned if this wasn't a home fixture.

But as it is, with players now returning from injury and Campbell and Diaz hitting their rhythm in terms and now having a good goal contributions per 90 I think we'll have too much for Bristol City and can't see anything but a comfortable win truth be told.

Nice one, cheers. I had it as 0-0 in my head. Too much ale, obviously. 🤣

We lost in 2nd tier relegation play offs (the only season they existed ? ) 1988 0-1 on a scorching hot Sunday @ (B)Ashton Gate , drew 1-1 following Tuesday

Billy Dearden scored best (bravest / most insane ) goal I’ve ever seen in a 2-0 FA cup win (75?)
Currie hit a ferocious shot parallel with the six yard line that was headed for the opposite touchline for a throw.
Ball was travelling behind BD who stooped arched his back & neck & met it with his forehead - travelled faster & harder than most folk could kick it., keeper never shifted
Billy must have (had) neck muscles of a Rhinoceros & skull (& common sense) of a Neanderthal
Think TC got t’other goal

I like your green & purple away kit(s).

I also like Hummel as a kit supplier

I stayed in Brizzle afore play off final (Wolves) in 2003 - you weren’t very welcoming (again)

Jonathan Pearce is a knob

End of 07 08 season, Bristol City at home, excellent match, won by United. City had an amazing player on the ball, an Aussie I think, who was he?

That was my first Cup match.
I still recall Currie's goal.
