Brewster

Definitely his best moment in a United shirt and I am very pleased for him, and for the three points it brought us of course.

I’ve said my piece on Brewster many times on here and last night doesn’t change my position. I think a best case scenario is he notches three or four more of these useful goals in his sporadic starts, which for his sake may well be vital in determining what level he plays at next season.

If he makes me eat humble pie and bags ten or more all of a sudden I’ll be very surprised. Pleasantly so, mind.

Plymouth up next, which could be a perfect opportunity for him to strike again.

If he can see us through the next couple of games with another goal, whilst Campbell fully recovers and Moore gets back to speed as a sub, then he will have made a valuable contribution.

Campbell/Sharp just being in the right place gets goals. Heard loads out of club about Brewster being a fantastic finisher but in games time and time again he struggles to read the game, tonight he put himself between the sticks and it worked out.
I took a look into Brewster's stats for the last few seasons and you could make a very convincing argument that his issue wasn't finishing ability but lack of quality chances due to movement/service.

Tried to make the argument to Ken but I'm sure you can imagine how that went down....

Thought his burst of pace to leave the defender and his all round movement was good last night, also laid off the ball well.

Nothing to write home about but seemed pretty solid to me.

Very glad for the lad but other than scoring the goal I.e.being in the right place at right time I thought he was poor. No evidence that there is a footballer there. Really hope I’m wrong (won’t be the first time!)
Billy Sharp made a career out of being in the right place at the right time. There’s huge skill in that, if Brewster makes a habit of that he’ll do just fine!

Did his job last night, delighted for him. Should start against Plymouth.

Fucks sake. As if he's not been through enough. Fair play. Regardless of his performances on the pitch, I think the biggest asset RB has is his strength of character. To keep going thorough his physical challenges to get back fit, to do the thing he loves and to now suffer personal loss at such a young age and keep going. Hats off. I hope beyond hope he comes good, stays fit, bags a hand full and justifies another contract, wherever that may be.

He hasn't been getting chances as he hasn't been getting into positions to score, like he's almost been afraid of missing an easy chance. It's understandable considering what he's been through.

Hopefully that changes, as of yesterday. I think he's had a good season so far, that yesterday is just rewards

True but if you see the goal it wasn't a case of movement and finding space between defenders, like Sharp used to do.
Last night it was a long sprint in a straight line, ironically it's the type of goal Billy didn't score, due to his lack of pace.

Agree might be a good opportunity to start him. Next 2 matches are against Plymouth and Cardiff, 2 of the weakest teams in the league.
Think alot depends of the fitness of Campbell, we could do with resting him ensuring he's fully fit for the Burnley game.

Depends of the definition of "good season".
He's been generally OK but a team chasing promotion need players where sometimes they step up and are better than "OK".
Think Brewster has done enough to be involved in the squad but not done enough to be a starter, altho he's not played that much really.
Campbell is now our number 1 striker, Moore our number 2, then it's 3rd choice Brewster who just pushes out One into 4th choice.

It's weird how these rankings can change back and forth and often it's enforced injuries that give lower ranked players a chance.
With Campbell and Moore not being 100% and with us about to play 2 of the weakest teams in the Championship.
It might make Wilder think now is the right time to give Brewster 3 consecutive starts (Millwall, Plymouth and Cardiff).
Let's see how he takes his chance.....at least he's scored last night to take off some pressure.

I would definitely start with Brewster against Plymouth and Cardiff now and see what he can do if he bags a few more fingers crossed it will be onwards and upwards for him.

Yeah I think it's so frustrating. I'm sure all teams have fans like this too but it does feel like there are a definite group who love to hate certain players. Don't get it myself.
There’s always people like this, I remember getting into a row with someone because I shouted encouragement to John Gannon.

“What you clapping Gannon for? He’s shit!”

🙄

It wasn’t me but it could have been…….

Agree some people do love a scapegoat. Think it’s got worse with the advent of social media. Sometimes I see the smart comments and sarcasm towards Brewster almost like “bullying”.

This doesn’t apply to everyone obviously but there is a psychology regards how humans act/ behave in a group compared to how they would act alone.

Makes me wonder if some people love to feel part of a gang and put the boot in when someone is down defenceless on the floor. Slagging someone off makes them feel better and more powerful, then they become addicted to that feeling.

Regards Gannon, used to like him, thought he was lively, worked hard and tried the more difficult passes meaning he’d sometimes give the ball away cheaply and that’s why he receive ld stick but at least he didn’t hide and would keep trying the more creative difficult passes.

I'm delighted for him. The finish itself was a simple one, but he had to be alert to the play that preceded it to be in position to tap it in.

Could have had another in the 2nd half too, but Moore couldn't make his mind up as to what he was doing, so Brewster wasn't ready to take the shot when it came to him.

He's always had the work rate, and hasn't hidden away - he's kept trying, regardless of the awful shit some people have said about him.

I really hope that now he uses last night as a springboard. If he can start to produce, it's one position we don't need to spend on in January.

That's what it looks like. Compared to the other strikers and a few midfielders and defenders, he'd just not had the same level of xG or big chances.

Could 100% make the argument about movement and positioning but the stats would not suggest he's a bad finisher, just that he barely has any chances at all.
